Raine walked back into the room with a sigh.
Mayleen didn't say a word or even look at Raine.
Raine glanced at Mayleen. "Are you okay?" She asked a bit concerned.
"Why the sudden interest? Doesn't matter. Don't concern yourself with me. It makes life easier for the both of us."
Raine reeled back. "Oh I'm sorry, I just worried because you're my friend." She said a bit sadly as she sat on her bed. "Sorry."
"Since when? I don't recall that."
"Just because you don't think of me as a friend doesn't mean I don't think you're my friend. You're my roommate and you took me to get crab cakes. You're my friend."
"How have you survived by giving your trust so easily?" She mumbled.
"Because sometimes he helps me." She said with a shrug. "Plus if you don't trust people, they will never trust you."
"I see no problem with that. Being alone isn't bad."
"No, but being with people isn't bad either."
"I feel like you're trying to convince me of something."
"I'm not." She said with a shrug. "Just saying that you don't have to be alone, if you want to you can, but I'm always here if you need a partner in crime, or flowers."
"Right, whatever." She rolled over to her other side.
Raine smiled as she pulled some granola out of her shadow and began munching on it. The sweet scent of dried fruit, nuts, and grain would fill the air.
