Best scenario is that it probably imitated Devin as he walked past (So Devin didn't see), but as soon as another guard stopped by, it pretended that it had "accidentally been trapped inside of a holding cell and needed to get out immediately".
Seems like something it would do and that guards would fall for. They don't seem to be very intelligent.
So not only that, but the real Devin is out there somewhere.
