This map depicts the part of the world in which our RP is located. This probably won't even come up. But just to be safe, I'm posting it.
The orphanage is located near the small village of Brask, in the country of Alindar.
Some basic lore on each country:
Alindar: Low military presence, high nautical presence and trade, ruled by humans, but fairly diverse.
Corinth: Good-size military presence, much trade in gems and textiles, ruled by humans (though the prince is part-elven). Extremely diverse. Won war against Norgrad many years back.
Norgrad: More technologically primitive. Good-size military presence, more warlike culture, majority humans and furres/anthros.
Serengrad: Low military presence, higher druidic population than usual, ruled by elves, but fairly diverse. The only country which doesn't see Norgrad as much of a threat.
If you desire additional lore, rumours, etc from any area, let me know.
As for the orphanage --
Loamhedge Orphanage is located on the far outskirts of Brask. It is a good couple miles walk away. Formerly a large church -- which was abandoned centuries ago -- the previously crumbling building was converted into an orphanage by a wealthy man from Brask. The man, a Sir Rookwood, is now elderly -- and with only minor remaining funds -- but the owner of the orphanage. Slightly reclusive and seen only occasionally, but extremely fatherly to the orphans when he is seen.
The orphanage consists of a wide front hall, a dining hall, a kitchens, some small private rooms and offices of the staff, a few dormitories, a large classroom, a room where the orphans can relax, work, and play, an infirmary, and a large grounds complete with rows upon rows of crops as well as some more aesthetic plants -- trees, a fought-over swing, and a small collection of chickens, goats, and sheep.

I am not an authority on Drow or the Underdark, I'mma be honest. However due to previous worldbuilding (like yall have no frickin idea how much work has gone into this world over the years, though admittedly most of it into only one country coff) I can say this:
There are two major subsets of drow in this world, both believing they are the 'original' and 'true' Drow and that the other is laughable, blasphemous and backwards. One is the traditional fantasy drow, living in the underdark, with the matriarchal society, spider goddesses, night-vision, all that jazz. As the only one playing a drow here, if there's any adjustments you want to make, feel free; my knowledge is fairly casual and I probably won't even notice.
The other (from a place which is literally off the map shown here) are desert-dwellers both below and above ground, who also have a matriarchal society but are far less focused on magic and more on martial ability. Their difficulty adjusting to the sun is lesser (as is their ability to see in the dark, though they still have a little infrared vision), their culture is focused on honour through combat, and they consider the cutting of their hair to be a horrible punishment far worse than physical pain. They are pretty rare in these parts, though; underdark drow are gonna be waaay more well known unless you go a lot further south.
Oh love the drow differences, thankyou for your in depth response ! I'll probably have Ethel from the Underdark with his spider and magical affinity and sheer loathing for sunny weather His issues with getting his hair cut are purely childish and not related to cultural background.
