Landscape: Highly varied, the the southwestern portion varies from tropical to a desert region with mountains dotting it in various locations. The northernmost region is mountainous with various rivers and lakes dotting the surface. The southeast contains various fields that are just prime for agriculture. Near the capital are many lush forests and the auroras can be seen from the center of the capital city.
Culture: The kingdom of Canis Majoris has a very unique culture that draws influences from American cultures and many different European, specifically English, Italian, German, Dutch, and Russian, while very notable Asian, notably Japanese, Thai, Chinese, and Mongolian are blended together. The nation’s music is often characterized by blending American country music, soft rock, and Asian folk music together for a unique, appealing sound.
Religion: (Primary) Azurism. Other major religions include Dundia and Satanism.
History: Canis Majoris was founded in the year 363 AD as a result of a small civil war that broke out in the previous nation of Canis. The Great Civil War that lasted nearly a decade prior to the formation of the nation. The Great Civil War was caused by the different religious practice brought upon the king and his subjects and the immigrants from surrounding regions. The inability for the native citizens and the immigrants to get along led to various civil outbreaks and eventually into a full blown civil war. The native citizens ended up winning the civil war and rebuilt a new nation over the ashes of the previous kingdom. After the formation of Canis Majoris, they immediately became a powerful country thanks to a skillful and highly intelligent leader. As the years went by, Canis Majoris slowly but surely expanded its territory until eventually ruling the vast majority of the continent of Serainias. Currently, the nation is an economic and military powerhouse and are in a time of peace. However, a dark cloud looms overhead.
Cities, towns, and villages.
Camor: The capital city and third largest city in the nation. The king and queen make their residence here. The city is well known for its unique and delicious food that blends various smoked meats, fried beans, and marinated vegetables. The city is also home to the nation’s largest museum. Due to the city’s location in the nation in the northwest, it often faced with bitterly cold winters, despite the cold winters, it remains a bustling city. Once a year on the summer solstice, the city hosts the Harvest Festival. This festival draws in people from all over the nation to celebrate the nation’s bountiful harvests.
Chiford: A small city on the western coast of Canis Majoris. It is a popular tourist destination despite the northern proximity of the town. The pristine beach and clear view of the auroras make it popular for honeymoons. The city is one of the largest producers of seafood in the nation. As such, the city’s cuisine is noted for its large amount of fish based dishes. The city’s population is primarily the old, wealthy, and retired.
Beygate: The smallest and coldest town in the nation. It has a population of just under 24,000 people. The town has incredibly cold winters with days that can reach well below 30°F. The summers often don’t reach much higher than 70°F. Due to the bitterly cold temperatures, people often do not stay for more than a few days at time. Despite this, a number of people are permanent residents due to the abundance of copper and other valuable minerals just five miles north of the town. Beygate has been one of the biggest mining towns since its founding.
Nandolin: The snowiest city in the nation. While it isn’t as cold as Beygate or other northern cities, it gets a large amount of snow. It is almost always covered in a layer of snow, even during the summer months. Despite the snowy nature, it is a bustling mining town much like Beygate. It has a large amount of gold and silver ore in the mines surrounding the town. It is also one of the best places to catch a glimpse of the auroras.
Dundy: A religious hotspot in the nation. Dundy is the birthplace of a strange religion known as Dundia, the worship of the sand goddess.The culture that worships are known for strange practices. One of these includes being buried from the neck down in sand for twenty minutes for repentance for sins. The village’s temperature happens to vary greatly, but is often very warm due to the desert the village lies in. The village’s cuisine is known for being rather spicy, often combining beans, rice, and meats in their dishes.
Macot: Popularly known as the ‘City of Rings’ for the ring shaped walls around the town. Macot was the very first city founded and was the former capital of the nation of Canis. It is the second largest city in terms of both population and area. The city also gained its nickname due to the high amount of jewelry created in the city. Just a short distance south of the city is a large mine filled with various rare and valuable gems useful for the creation of beautiful jewelry. It is a popular spot for weddings, as nearly 60% of all weddings occur within the city’s center.
Pawie: Another desert city in the southwestern region of the nation. It is the driest city throughout Canis Majoris, receiving less than three inches of rain yearly. The city is home to the largest prison. The prison contains more people than the city of Beygate.
Thelladhil: Another tourist hotspot. It is located just a short distance from the pristine Hewson Beach. The town takes great pride it its appearance and environmental beauty. The town is a beacon for eco-friendly people and tourists alike. The westernmost portion of the town is home to the Hewson Lighthouse.
Caleah: Popularly known as the ‘City of Gardens’ for the countless gardens and flower beds that dot the city. Nearly every building has at least a single flower bed in front of them. Due to the colorful and relaxing atmosphere of the city, it is a popular spot for newlywed couples to settle down together.
Belonde: Another strange desert town that follows the same religion as Dundy does. Unlike the other two, this desert town is strange in the fact that it receives quite a bit of rain in comparison to the others, averaging at about eleven inches a year.
Vionie: Better known as the Great City of Vionie. This was the very first city founded after the Great Civil War. Vionie has a long, colorful history and has always remained a powerful military city. It is well known for being a pioneer of many of the weapons that the military and citizens of Canis Majoris wield. Vionie also claims to be the birthplace of magic within the nation. The Sorcerer’s School of Azure is located here.
Migrave: The southernmost city and the most recent city to be founded. It is well known for the numerous lakes, ponds, and the beach. It is sometimes referred to as the ‘City of Water’. The city’s economy thrives on tourism, fishing, and strangely enough gambling. The city is known for its large amount of casinos and large gambling industry.
Bawold: Another coastline city that is well known for being the birthplace of the most popular sport in the country, Mothball. Mothball is a unique sport that mixes baseball, American football, and ice hockey into one chaotic event. The finals of the sports often draw crowds of over three million people. The city practically thrives on the profits made from the sport. Tourism and the food industry play a big part in the city’s economy.
Idandy: Yet another one of the many coastal cities in the nation. This was the largest city of the Kingdom of Ravenloft until Canis Majoris took it over. This city is notable for its unique architecture.
Cacot: Better known as the Aethereal Port of Cacot. This island town is the central hub of trade for the entire nation. The island the town is situated on is abundant with many natural resources like fish, coal, iron, and wood making it a prime economic goldmine. However, due to over usage the valuable resources are slowly being drained away. Despite the over usage of the land, the central rainforests of the island are fiercely protected.
Hyham: Popularly known as the ‘Holy City’. Hyham is considered to be the birthplace of Canis Majoris’ most widespread religion, Azurism. This is the worship of the Goddess of Water, Azure. Hyham is home to the largest temple in the nation, the Water Temple. Little is known about the city’s history prior to the founding of Azurism.
Tegrove: Formerly known as the Imperial City of Tegrove. Tegrove was an independent city state that was effectively absorbed into the nation.
Hydon: Sometimes referred to as the ‘City of Nightmares’ due to the proximity of the Sanctuary of Nightmares. It is famous for the strange hauntings that go around the city. Very little is known about the history of the city. The population is made up primarily of magical elves.
Wymoor: Better known as the ‘The Golden City’. Wymoor is famous for the massive gold mines that lie just west of the city. It is known for the large amount of gold that decorates the city as well.
Pene: An isolated and ancient village that was founded before even the original nation of Canis was formed. Little is known about them due to their location; right in the center of the Pene Desert and at the peak of the largest mountain in the nation, Mt. Azura.
Negrisa: Sometimes referred to as the ‘City of Fire’ due to the proximity of the Keep of Fiery Ruin. Negrisa is also home to many fire sorcerers.
Bawolf: Better known as the ‘City of Palaces’. The city earned the nickname due to the unique architecture in which most buildings look like miniature palaces and are often as luxurious as one. The city has the largest GDP rate in the nation by far, making up at least 25% of the nation’s total economy.
Landmarks, forts, and rivers.
The Tower of Gusa: A military stronghold that protects the capital, Beygate, and Nandolin.
The Bastion of Bhhullitu the Sorcerer: The home of the infamous sorcerer that was said to innovate dark magic; a powerful and terrifying type of magic that has since been outlawed due to the inhumane ways it killed people. Bhhullitu has since been executed for her terrifying practices, but rumors have spread that she was never actually killed and now makes her home in the Sanctuary of Nightmares.
Fane Keep: A military stronghold where Bhhullitu was supposedly executed.
The Tower of Chaos: A former military tower that was in use until strange occurrences started happening. Objects would be thrown from shelves, deep cuts would appear on the limbs of soldiers, and terrifying voices would seemingly echo through the place. It is now a place for curious and often stupid explorers.
The Citadel of Gothmag of Uden: A military stronghold that is notable for its large amount of orcish soldiers.
Yancey’s Keep: The home to one of the largest prisons in the nation. This one houses some of the nation’s most dangerous criminals, including the notorious serial killer Yancey. He was also responsible for the murder of the previous king.
The Ruins of Castle Ravenloft: The crumbling ruins of the castle from the former nation of Ravenloft. It is now being restored and will be used as the king and queen’s vacation home for visits in the southeast.
The Ruins of Barad Ehrialas: The former home to King Barad Ehrialas whom ruled the small nation of Azalea prior to the takeover and by Canis Majoris. It is now used as a prison.
Ealard Stronghold: Another military stronghold built to protect one of the nation’s most valuable fishing and mining deposits.
The Lost Dungeon of the Goblin King: The ruins of the former Goblin King that ruled much of the northeast, they’ve since been lost to history. Many people have set off to search for the ruins, but none of succeeded.
Aner Castle: The former capital building of the Kingdom of Aner.
Caer Lindire: Home to the nation’s Prime Minister.
The Sanctuary of Nightmares: The rumored home of the Dark Sorcerer. The place is noted for the occult devil worshippers that often gather here to perform strange rituals. Many locals do well to avoid the Sanctuary due to the terrifying, haunting presence that can be felt. Legends of propped up if one goes too far into the woods surrounding the Sanctuary, the Devil will take them and they will never return. Even the most brave of warriors do their best to avoid the hellish area.
The Tomb of Horrors: A haunting graveyard of unknown origins. Curious travelers have stated they’ve felt a terrifying chill run down their spines, pained voices of the damned echoing through the place, and occasionally the mirage of a beautiful woman, a young girl, and a young boy dressed in white can be seen. However, those who approach the three are said to experience terrifying chills and nightmares afterwards. According to rumors, the Tomb of Horrors is connected to the Sanctuary of Nightmares.
The Tower of Eternal Night: A former military stronghold that was abandoned after a number of hauntings that resulted in the death of four soldiers. According to the survivors, a young child that shined radiantly wearing a white dress of unknown origins approached and swiftly murdered the men after muttering, ‘Daddy...why did you abandon me...?’ Now the tower is a place for the curious and the stupid.
The Citadel of Lord Greywolf: Another military fort that was formerly used to defend the nation of Greywolf which obviously failed. Now, the former Lord Greywolf is held prisoner here.
The Citadel of Yeblis: Another fort that was designed to protect the former kingdom of Yeblis.
Lette Keep: This fort is used to keep the royal family safe during times of crisis, such as war and natural disasters.
Beaton Stronghold: A small fort that is home to a group of secessionists aiming to create their own sovereign state. Rumors have propped up that the Beatons have attempted to incite another civil war within the nation.
The Ruins of Crefield Keep: A fort of unknown origins. It was believed to have been used to torture and execute prisoners. It is currently abandoned.
The Keep of Fiery Ruin: A place where aspiring Fire Sorcerers go to better control their magic. It is home the Blazera College, a place where many go to learn more about the fire in their hearts.
Major Rivers:
Bloodmoor River: The river is most notable for where the first battle in the nation’s quest for conquest began. The river is also located near the Tomb of Horrors.
Blackmoor River: This river is notable for its uniquely dark colored water. The water is perfectly safe to drink, the dark color is caused by the surrounding rocks in the river.
Porthea River: A popular swimming and fishing spot for locals.
Iron River: The river is notable for the large amount of iron in the water. The iron comes off from the runoff deposits in the nearby mine.
Bleakmoor River: A river that is often used for transporting goods throughout the minor villages that dot the banks.
Idano River: A river notable for the fertile and valuable land that is perfect for agriculture. Many small and privately owned farms dot along the banks to take advantage of the land for their families, however the nutrients in the area are slowly being leached away.
Toadfen River: A river that is popular with children for reasons unknown, some say the pristine waters draws the child’s imaginations.
Steel River: A unique river notable for the large amount of various blacksmiths and forgeries along the banks.
