Hey, if life has demands it takes precedent. We can wait.
Well, 95% of it is life and this crazy work schedule I'm on at the moment.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut

I would be remiss if I did not admit to losing a few hours to Dark Souls 2 >_>
Dark souls is like a second job imo xD

I wanted to get the games done in chronological order. I don't even know if they have related stories; its just a habit of mine. Haven't gotten through one yet though, because I kept letting other people tell me the most effective way to play when I believe the real way to play the game is how you want, cause you'll end up getting destroyed innumerable times anywho.

Also, not my time to reply yet, but I feel the need to mention as she kept talking about things Mark would start smiling despite himself. With amusement ofc.
I have lost so much time in Dork Souls ;_;

1 and 3 are very closely connected, both in storyline and gameplay as they were both made by the same designer. If you play 1 and then 3, you're not missing much by not playing 2.

2 was made by a different designer, although the same company. Mechanically, it is massively different from 1 & 3. The storyline is also a little off, but it does stick close to the others and there are certainly a few items in 3 that are call backs to 2.

I just can't stress enough how mechanically different 2 is from the others though. It's nothing you don't get used to and learn and adapt, it'll just feel super weird at first.

Also, yes. Do not, under any circumstances, let someone tell you how to play it. You can beat any of the games running around butt naked with a broken sword. The only thing that will change is how fast / how easy it becomes.

Well, I'm glad she could bemuse Mark. xD I do worry that her sense of humor is only funny to me.
Sorry I have been a little away, I travelled to Germany all last week.

Back home now
Freyera's response made me giggle inwardly a bit myself. Sirina is just a wet blanket at the moment xD

Oooh, Germany? That sounds like fun! Where did you go?

I was hoping you'd be amused by it ^_^
I am curious about the trip as well, but I have noticed Tusitala to be rather secretive about his location. Or their location. idk what you'd prefer to be called, really, I just assumed he.
As part of my IT job I am expected to travel to various sites across Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA region) so far around Europe.

Big international companies have too many sites scattered across too many countries worldwide but it's good to be back home
As for this latest trip to Germany I went to Frankfurt and Delkenheim, whilst I do visit the city and restaurants I mostly head to the secure headquarters of the American pharmaceutical company, carry out IT work, stay at hotels in between and then return home when the time is up or the task is done.

When not travelling I work from home, remotely-online for the rest of the time, which allows for multitasking (aka RP time!)

So far I have been to Spain, England, Germany, France, Netherlands, planned trip to Ireland, Portugal and Italy coming up next but we´ll see about those three (I hope I can skip since travelling limits WIFI availability aka RP time)

I've tried my best to keep up the pace though I apologize if I have been less active than I usually am
As for myself... I used to live in the UK and moved to southern Europe - Spain (better weather)

Although I normally prefer to keep anonymous, I have hanged here a while so it is time I introduced myself properly

- Tusitala is a female writer
- IT / writing are my 2 key areas of interest
- Love listening to music (epic music, celtic music and Epic pirate music are my fav) though I listen to other stuff as well for inspiration.

As for RP... this is my first forum based RP, before I used to write up in competitions on sites (short stories or novels) though there is no players interaction and very static rules, I like RPing a lot more...

My preferences are fantasy based stories.

- Medieval with lords, knights and similar
- Pirates or similar
- Bandits and similar
- Mythologies (roman, greek, egyptian, nordic...)

I do not particularly like topics that are: modern (too close to RL stuff and dramas), horror (enough gory going on in the news as it is), etc.. scifi robots or apocalypsis/end of world, survival sort of subjects, though, I would not refuse giving it a try if the plot was good enough

Last but not least... pleased to make your acquaintance...
Very nice to meet your acquaintance ! :D
Pleased to meet you! I feel like this may call for an introductory circle.

Before that though; so you're basically an international IT hero. Hero because I find it a lot braver to write in contests than rp like this xD. Also, I knew someone from Spain years ago, though she was born there. NJ/NY are similar to the UK (though I imagine a bit warmer) just cause of the latitude so I completely understand the idea of moving for weather!

Fantasy is a great place to start rp wise, cause its flexible in certain ways that sci fi and modern stuff isn't, so I think you made a good call on that one. It was my starting genre too.

Probably already mentioned it but Lyssa and I are from the US. I've personally only traveled across the same country for brief visits/vacations, so traveling internationally is something I aspire to do, even if it is tiring at times. Celtic music is one of my favorites as well, though I think some people overblow the Celtic hype a bit. Could be wrong. I've been trying to kind of create a mythical identity for the ancient Irish, rather than the Celts as a whole. Those guys really got everywhere... When I was making town names for an upcoming rp there were so many Celtic roots in places you wouldn't even imagine there was.

(Thinking of epic music reminded me of this. Its very catchy, but don't look at the comments section unless you're ready for a lot of weird stuff.)
About work...

Travelling can be exhausting and disruptive to my RP muse!!

About writing...

Set contests help improve my English but they can be very challenging because you are given a topic along with some set rules like a list of words, characters, phrases or actions that you must somehow include in your story, as many as possible, sometimes even the setting is pre-fixed too!

It keeps the brain ticking... but given the busy RL, I find this RP forum a lot more relaxed with surprising twists and turns at every corner.

Concerning Swells of Rage...

- what happened to Roldan Ulderico and the merchants whereabouts?
- when are you bringing Chowder back?

About iltheyn

I have not been to US yet, but my RP friends and other gamers seem to be 80% from US too, especially among writing worlds

The biggest inconvenience is the time zone difference, here is already midnight when over there the evening enjoyment is barely starting !

Sometimes I try to stay up later, if I am still working or if it's weekend, otherwise, I have to wait a whole night till morning or next evening to find out what is being said next :(

I feel the story would be more active and fluid if I lived that side of the world, more often than not!

About iltheyn's writing...

How do you go about creating characters like Chowder, Tye or Grum with the engaging, easy going conversations and expressions? Did you read up from specific books-sites-stories? or did it just "pop into your head" on the spur of the moment?
Some rp communities have their own writing contests. unfortunately my only experience with one of those was poor, but I think in a less defined setting, like the one RPR provides, writing contests would be much better.

Concerning Swells of Rage. Roldan Ulderico is the merchant, I think. Unless I swapped him accidentally with the captain, which I would not put past me. I sometimes forget who's who. Roldan is around, but I haven't decided how exactly to fit him in just yet. I have some ideas, but nothing set in stone. Rest assured though he is alive and nearby.

Chowder is near Merthyr's general location still. Being that he's mostly comic relief I think he will be around on and off throughout the story. Tris just wanted privacy for the moment. Chowder's life may be endangered by Taff and Tye's plans, but I have no plans of killing him rn. He is too precious.

In regards to time zones, its no problem with the pacing my rps keep. The main reason I try to ensure they don't go too fast is that so people in different time zones don't come back to a story that's moved on without them. It might be more fluid, but its better not to be in the US right now I think xD.

Tye and Grum are characters that I've had since I was a teenager. I already have an idea of who they are from a long while of experience. The same goes for Enth, Jal and, to a lesser extent, Mark and Tara. Chowder and Tris both are characters I improvise on the spot. More or less I'm just very used to improvising at this point.

All of my characters are my own. I get inspiration from things, but I never take characters from existing series, even if they are public domain.

I think in terms of inspiration it is helpful to both think for yourself and read. Some of the earliest books I got attached to were the Night Angel Trilogy. First book's called Way of Shadows. Its a book on the life of an assassin. I never reached the end, just because its a very wordy book (though not as wordy as Lotr) but I read halfway through. I also read cirque du freak and some of the forgotten realms books, including the first seven drizzt books. On that note, I think the best ones in the drizzt series are the first three. From that point, its mostly just stretching on for people who are attached to Drizzt and his pals. More often I just read other people's free writing. Stealing characters is no good, but stealing certain phrases or words to add to your active vocabulary from those you're inspired by is helpful. There is no copyright on language.... for the most part.

When it comes to making characters seem alive I think the best you can do is try to take from how you would feel about things. Not to make every character the same as you, but imagining yourself in their shoes so that when they respond it is more realistic.

..and being an artist otherwise means I tend to focus on people's faces irl, so it helps when I'm trying to describe what a character's face would do. Sorry for the wall of text!

Good to hear of it
*Spins chair in circles*

I'm totally working on this post

Yep

Totally.
My post is done! Let the floodgates open!

Also: NP Beetlebelle.
Everyone alright? Things have been quiet for quite a few days...
I don't think I can post again yet.

Edit: Orrrrr maybe I just didn't realize it was my turn xD
Yeah, I'm not sure I mentioned this... actually I'm rather certain I didn't. Sorry.

I'm on a trip right now in a different state. The last two days have been taken up by doing things I've more or less never done before, so that's exciting. I'll take a look and see if I can reply. xD I think some days on this trip will be more distracting than others. For a portion of it I'll just be looking after someone's cat.

Edit: Posted! Side note, the OP for one of the upcoming threads is almost done. It'll probably wait a while before its posted though, even if its finished soon, since we're both on this trip.
