Orion Confederacy – A Brief History
The Confederated Systems and Sectors of the Orion-Cygnus Arm is a polity comprising of growingly autonomous territories within the limits of Orion Space. After interstellar space travel met its first true inception in the early 22nd Century, national governments, which included the United States formed ad hoc coalitions in response to growing food shortages and overpopulation. These coalitions included the Dutches Union, an effort founded by US President George Dutches, and is considered the successor state to the United Nations. Although his subordinates (which included Federal Scientists and other government officials) had other plans, his dream was to colonise Mars and harvest its resources.
The Muscovy Coalition was the largest opposing force of the Union, comprising of many Federated Russian states (with a select insurrectionists siding with the Union), the People's Republic of China, a reluctant New Ukraine Federation, and many other South-East Asian powers. The Coalition's endeavour was the limit of Western power in the Solar System. Similarly, the Hispanian Federated Republic was formed by Cuban President Juan Caloforra in South America, with aims to colonise the modern Outer Crescent and bring in employment opportunities and economic growth in this increasingly chaotic time. The Hispanian Republic were the progenitors of New Hispania, the modern superpower of the Outer Crescent Sectors and Systems.
After increased tension between the three space-fairing powers, the Muscovy Coalition eventually colonised the modern Tarkov System in 2160, however the power of this colony was minimal. The three coalitions eventually engaged in total war, colonising neighbouring systems and fuelling their war efforts in the Orion-Muscovite War. After a five year war, the Hispanian Republic eventually were driven so far out of Orion Space that they formed the first Autonomous Sector of New Hispania in 2165. This Sector eventually lead to becoming a major superpower within the Orion Arm, but due to the largely unsophisticated judicial and law enforcement systems, it soon became a backwater territory. Meanwhile, the Dutches Union continued to wage an increasing war of attrition against the Muscovy Coalition.
After a further 2 years of total war, current Union President, Dylan Chesterson, along with Muscovy President Peter Tarkov signed the Orion Concordance Treaty, effectively ending the Orion-Muscovite War after the Battle of Grismark Sector on June 7th 2166. Although the Treaty remained prevalent under the jurisdiction of President Chesterson, dissidence continued to seed amongst not only Muscovite loyalists and extremists, but the increasing power of crime lords and other petty criminal activities. On March 16th 2167, President Chesterson formed the Confederate Special Police Service under Supreme Constable Wesley Collinson, the law enforcement arm of the Inner Crescent. The Confederate Special Police later evolved into the modern Confederate Sector Marshal Service, after increasing sophistication in the legal system. The New Hispanian government also employed the service of Sector Marshals and eventually reformed their judicial and law enforcement system to be akin to the Inner Crescent Sectors
On April 26th of 2231, the increasing insurgency of the Grosniski Front (a Muscovy extremists group) raided a Dutches affiliated embassy in the Grosniski System of Grismark Sector, eventually leading to the breaking of the peace amongst the Sectors, and a civil war in the Grosniski Civil Conflict. Due to the guerilla tactics employed by the Grosniks, specially trained units of naval infantry came into use. On August 2nd of 2231, the Confederate Marines came to be, founded by former guerilla fighter Vladimir Angelov, who was seen with much suspicion amongst military officials. Vladimir's descendants, which included Jakov and Sergei Angelov would go on to become prominent war heroes. Thanks to the Confederate Marines, smaller less organised militia services and minutemen were trained in an effort to limit the havoc being caused by the Grosniks. The last of Grosnik activity was silenced after the Vidimich Offensive in the Vidim Sector, a military operation which saw the deaths of multiple Grosnik leaders in 2232.
The modern Confederacy didn't come to be until the early 24th century, when alien species came into contact with the Union government. The Confederacy finally met its inception on August 25th 2321 with the New Compadre Act, solidifying relations between extraterrestrial species and humans. The species saw much integration into the societal structure of the Inner Crescent Sectors, however this wasn't the case in the Outer Crescent.
The Outer Crescent worlds had always retained a reputation as a lawless chaotic network of Sectors. Unsurprisingly enough, human extremists groups such as the Inner Sanctum and Orion First came into being, with concerns regarding the aliens' legitimacy in their dealings. Political parties such as the Masons and the Vigils also caused much grief towards these species.
With the ratification of the Articles of Species by Confederate President Henry Bowdre, discrimination towards alien species became outlawed in both society, and government dealings. However, discrimination remained ripe due to the lawlessness present. As such, the Confederate Equity Bureau came to be in order to enforce these regulations.
With the turn of the 26th century, the Confederacy was inching closer to reform. The centralised power of the Inner Crescent Sectors and Systems is growing exponentially, slowly transitioning the Confederacy into a federation. President Colton Lexington is pushing such reforms, with his inclusion of species such as the Izagame into the work force, although the Masons tend to disagree heavily towards such reforms.
