Poking at New Zealand aside....you guys have koala bears so it's not all scary xD
I imagine it was on one of the Outer Crescent colonies that first contact happened, either arriving and realizing someone else has already moved in....or finding out only after having landed.

I'd imagine an Inner Crescent Consul would open negotiations with them after a family of ranchers discovers them. I'm thinking very early 26th century if you want them to have a significant impact on the Confederacy.
