The Ashen Scaled dragons, or The Ve-taras as they are known in Draconic/Drakonia tongue, are most commonly regonised by their ash colored scales, which can be in various hues of grey. All from nearly black to almost white/silver in color, while always keeping that grey tone in their scales. Their underbelly and wings however can be in various shades of red/orange or blue, with females mostly commonly being born with the red tones and the males with blue. Which is due to that males are usualy born with a stronger type of fire that is blue. There is however a small chance that a female can be born with the stronger blue fire and a male with the red one, but the chance of that is quite slim, about 5% or so.
The second common feature among them is their silver/metal colored horns and claws. They are not seen in many variets apart from the silverly hue but can on occasion have darker/blackend tips. This is most commonly seen on males and rarely seen on females. The horns and claws are usualy rather sharp and long and has a mattend shine to them.
The third and last common feature amongst them is the spinal stripes, which will most of times be very subtle and difficult to see but it is something they all have, atleast to some degree. Some will have it all the way from their scalp to their tail tip, while some will only have it along the back or just on the neck, or a combo of both. The stripes are commonly of two or three in rare cases colors, with a large patternend stripe as the main one and a thin, nearly straight one in the middle of that one. Which in rare cases can have a even thiner stripe within that one. The pattern of the main one is always unique to the dragon, no Ashen Scaled has a identical pattern of any other. Twins however can get very close but even thoese will have slighty diffrent from one another. Due to that some believe that the overall pattern or theme of the pattern is inherited and can therefor not only act as a fingerprint but also as a family line/trait to identify which family the dragon came from, much like humans use last names. The pattern and stripes will most of times also adorn the "arms" of the wings. The colors of these stripes and patterns will be of a similar color scheme to the belly and wings. In other words, yes they can be of diffrent colors then their underbelly but wont stray far from the spectrum.
Origin:
They originated in Drakonia, like any other dragon species of Telaria. But it is believed that their apperance and attributes was slighty altered along the line by a few dragons that came from another world. However the Ashen Scaled themselfs have never strayed far from their birth lands, which is why they can only be born with the element of fire and flames, due to Drakonia being the lands of lava and ash. Although it is rumored that their appreance wasnt the only thing they inherited from these dragons of another world. It is not fully confirmed yet but, some Ashen Scaled have been seen displaying (like Alora) a second form, one that they call the "enraged" one. It isnt that much diffrent however from their regular form, in apperance that is. The dragon keeps its overal shape and size but gains either new or larger features, such as more or larger horns or spikes and their stripes, which are usualy barely visable, becomes very vibrant and almost glowing in this form. And needless to add, apperance isnt the only thing that changes in this form. It is not fully confirmed yet but depending on the level of rage that activied this form, the dragon in question can get a boost of 80% in power, makeing it nearly 10 times stronger then in its regular form.
Reproduction:
The egg shell of a ashen born is always the color of ash and/or charcoal, makeing them ideal to hide within nests of chared food and nesting material such as volcanic rock and burned up twigs. The size and shape of the egg wont vary far from other dragon species but will always have this bumpy kinda texture among its scales. Which only adds to their camouflage in the charred themed nests. However due to Ashen mothers always tending to nest in deep caves and never out in the open, the camuflage isnt per say needed usualy. An excepting mother will rarely leave her nest of eggs and relies heavily on her mate feeding her, makeing the camuflage even less useful. However it is not uncommon for a Ashen scale to breed with another species of dragon, which most of time happens without their consent, due to their lack of pshyical strenght, so Ashen mothers will alot of times lay her eggs without a supporting mate and have to fend for them herself. Which in thoese cases the camuflage of the eggs comes in handy and is infact the reason that the egg shell began to take this apperence. The shells used to infact be almost crystal white before this.
So after most likely being forced upon with eggs from a non ashen scaled male, the female will carry said eggs for about a year or so, depending on what sort of dragon her mate was. At this stage she will have little to no problem when it comes to carrying them but when she is close to due, the female can alot of times not even leave her nest for days. Leaving her to lay there helplessy while most likely straved as she gives birth to the eggs. Which can take from several hours up to a full day almost to finish, due to both having a narrow birth canal but also laying up to 6 eggs normally. Less than 3 is very rare. After that the eggs needs to incubate by the mother's warmth from her underbelly for up to 5 months. Her fire can tempoarily keep them warm enough while she fetches food but not for too long, cause if left cold for too long, they will perish. Meaning the mother would almost always be found curled up around the eggs with the eggs laying as close to her underbelly as possible. Usualy with her long tail around and sometimes even her upper wing over them to shelter them from cold winds.
