As this is designed to be played like a rogue-like text-based game focused on exploration, there are some rules that must be applied. The game will be mostly freeform and you shall all mostly have the freedom to do as you wish- however- a classic role playing system will be implemented.
How will it work?
First of all, you will need to create a character! The character you create is entirely up to you! However, there are some guidelines that need to be followed.
1. Your character is an exiled criminal. The level of crime is up to you, you may even be falsely accused! However, given this fact, you have been stripped of all your gear and are now just wearing the bear necessities. You will gain equipment over the course of the game, so no starting equipment.
2. On your characters page you need to add a "flexible stats" section. Next, go to this website and fill out the point by calculator. You have a total of 15 points to spend. Note that the more points you put into one stat, the more it will cost. So choose wisely! You will also gain the ability to raise these stats as you progress so plan ahead! For reference, I will outline the effects of each stat below;
--strength
Strength will effect your melee weapon damage and chance to hit, as well as effect the outcome of some other actions as well, such as lifting heavy objects and the like.
--agility
Agility will effect your ranged weapon damage and chance to hit, as well as effect your ability to dodge attacks. Unlike similar tabletop role playing systems, agility will not effect your defence score by adding a passive dodge bonus. Rather, you can spend energy to attempt to dodge an attack.
--constitution
Constitution will effect your total health and energy levels. Your health is equal to your constitution score x2. Your energy is equal to your constitution+1/2 wisdom score. If your health reaches 0, you will become incapacitated. If an ally does not help you within the next hour you will die. You can take three attacks while incapacitated before you are killed. You will use energy to attack, dodge, use skills, etc. Similarly so will enemies, monsters, etc. If you use an attack, dodge or other action that uses more energy then you currently have, you will become exhausted until your energy is full again. You gain 1 hit point and energy point passively at the start of your turn.
--intelligence
Intelligence will effect your ability to use and manipulate arcane stones; the primary source of magic in this world. It will also effect your ability to identify relics and appraise arcane stones and infused weapons.
--wisdom
Wisdom will effect your ability to withstand arcane attacks, as well as effect your will to carry on after taking certain attacks and effects. Add half of your wisdom score to your energy total.
--charisma
Charisma will effect your ability to talk with others. A minimum of 8 charisma is required to start conversations with npc's (non playing characters) and having a charisma score lower than 10 will cause vendors to sell you items at increased prices. Higher charisma scores will lower prices in your favor.
3. Combat
Combat will take place in turn-based team combat. The side (players and allies vs enemies) with the highest total agility score will go first. All combatants on a team will decide their actions and then it will proceed.
Beyond all the above, typical role play rules apply, including being kind to each other and staying in touch if you are not going to be able to be active.
