There are many myriad monsters, races and creatures that inhabit the world alongside Humanity, things that have long since been forgotten and consigned to the realm of myth and legend. Most of these creatures have their origins Beyond The Veil, but in the years before and after its creation they entered the mortal realm and colonised it. In the modern age many of the more inhuman creatures have been driven to extinction or have been exiled back to their own realms beyond The Veil, but some races still endure, a list of some of the most common is below.
Vampire
Vampires or 'Vampyres' are amongst the oldest and most dangerous creatures that inhabit the world. Their origins are mysterious an cloaked in half-remembered myths. Some say that the first vampires were Demonic Nephilim, others believe that they are afflicted with some kind of mystical disease or else they are cursed by God. Whatever the truth, these creatures are known to be apex predators; faster, stronger and with keener senses than mortal humans, the Vampire is a danger even to veteran operatives. Due to their close connection to blood and darkness, Vampies often have an affinity for blood and shadow magic, and especially the art of Necromancy, their ability to control large numbers of undead servants have given them the epitaph of 'Lords of the Undead', however Vampires themselves are not Undead, although this is a common misconception, instead it appears that Vampires are trapped in some form of advanced homoeostasis, preserving their body and metabolic functions against age and some forms of injury.
Strengths: Greater physical abilities than Humans, better senses and affinity for blood, shadow and necromantic magics. Some have limited hypnotic and telepathic abilities, there is also evidence that they heal faster than Humans and have an immunity to some poisons and diseases.
Weaknesses: Abilities fade in potency with lack of blood, they also tend to become more irrational and bestial as the thirst worsens. They have a severe allergy to Aspen wood and an aversion to sanctified ground and holy symbols. Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light causes them to spontaneously combust.
Fae
Fae, Faeries, The Fair Folk, the Tuatha De Danann, the Sidhe. Originating from Beyond The Veil, the Fae can be found in many places across the world, but especially in places where magic is heavily concentrated such as Ireland. There are many different kinds and subraces of Fae, but all of them have magical powers far greater than most Humans and an instinctive understanding of mystical forces. Most, if not all, Fae are aligned with either the Seelie or Unseelie Courts; the Light and the Dark Fae respectively. Fae of the Seelie Court are mischievous and wilful, but are not overtly hostile to Humans, and indeed may render them help on occasion, the Unseelie Fae however are decidedly more aggressive and malevolent, tormenting humans simply for the joy of it.
The Society maintains embassies with both the Seelie and Unseelie Courts, however diplomatic relations are difficult due to the vagaries of Fae'n politics, mood, fashion and temporal perception. There have been cases of ambassadors returning from the Faerie Realms subjective decades or centuries later but with only a few days or months passing on Earth, or indeed the opposite.
Strengths: Strong in magic and with a wide variety of abilities, including the Gift of Tongues, Fae are also adept at masking their appearance and protecting illusions and glamours.
Weaknesses: They have an aversion to cold iron, and and, according to some sources, the ringing of church bells. It is known that Fae avoid heavily modernised and polluted areas and have a general dislike of modern technology, they are also bound by certain laws and rules which restrict their behaviour, though the exact nature of these rules seems to vary depending on clan, race and affinity.
