    History

    Widely known
Norley and The Liberated Lands of Pryveth used to be one large part of Karnath belonging to the same peoples united under different rulers, much like Esterwyn. However, due to its proximity to The Weeping Spine (home of most magical races) the lands were soon populated by mixed bloodlines and a shift from the nomad and clan ways occurred. Esterwyn and the large lands of Pryveth and Norley combined were at constant conflict, minor skirmishes occurring at borders and village raids done by Esterwyn clans.

After the Second Karnathi War, Norley and Pryveth split away from each other forming the nations that they are now and developing separately.

Norley had its era of peace after this war, focusing on establishing an economy independent of Pryveth's access to gems, minerals, unprocessed metal, spices as well as salt. Norley also began building up a military force that soon was the largest in Karnath. Their trade with other nations mainly supported this growth, The Edge supplied scholars and research into weaponry and training, Pryveth supplied raw metal that Norley processed into weaponry and The Weeping Spine brought in talented alchemists and arcane scholar who were willing to use their knowledge for military purposes. Most nations interpreted this military expansion as Norley's attempt to justify its existence after Pryveth split off and a reaction to Esterwyn's continuous onslaught.

That was until the Lockwood family inherited the throne. Believed to be a result of political maneuvering and assassination; the then-Champion of Norley - Leon Lockwood - came to the throne after the untimely death of King Bartholomieu D'Estienne d'Orves, marrying Bartholomieu's widow and Leon's lover Queen Renn Atris of Paleah, spurning his own betrothed(Countess Fiya D'Amour) in favor of this politically favorable match (though it was also for love). He did name Fiya to the position of Archmage and at the insistence of his wife kept a sexual relationship with her, the progeny of which became the basis of the Lockwood family as Renn was tragically killed by Leon 3 years later while pregnant to use her blood to kill the Dragon Inaintet. This killing created tension between Paleah and Norley that has remained to the current day, revived after it's particularly brutal annexation.

Leon married Fiya and her eldest son Tybalt I became the Crown Prince, little else is known of Queen Fiya or Prince Tybalt I.

The next 300 years in Nor history were relatively uneventful and merit no discussion.

King Tybalt Lockwood III pushed the nation towards aggressive expansion. Pryveth's borders were pushed back and so were Esterwyn's, under the claims that those were lands where Nor people resided. Paleah, a previously independent city state and home to the historic King Leon's first wife, was seized through atrocious means. To this day survivors of the Annexation of Paleah (also known as Paleah Terrors) construcs schemes and carry out revenge plots. One of these revenge plots took place a year before the old King fell, an attempted regicide that resulted in Princess Cynthia's death. The final battle of Third Karnathi War here took place in Gatharbar, a Nor city on the Southernmost border with Esterwyn. The city was overrun by Esterwyn warriors while the Nor armies were stationed three days away. The town was secured by Sir Julian of House Chastain and his meager forces until the rest of Norley's forces arrived along with the King and his son Prince Erwin. The last wave of Esterwyn warriors attacked, and since they were weakened, lost the battle. However, King Tybalt fell in this battle.

With the passing of King Tybalt Lockwood, the throne was inherited by his second son Prince Matthias who immediately began working on securing peace and bringing an end to the war. Most nations agreed to a new peace treaty, with Norley's treasury and economy suffering significantly. However, Esterwyn remained resistant to any proposals of peace. King Matthias lost his wife, Queen Senna of Zantara, to another attempted regicide- this time connected to Esterwyn, but the connection was never proven.

After this loss, King Matthias briefly renewed aggressive war with Esterwyn, until his advisers warned him of Norley's economic falure if he kept the war funded. Begrudgingly, a peace was established by the engagement of Rithari of Esterwyn and the King. Their planned marriage would unite the nations once an heir was born.
