    Vek is an incidental name for the insurgent faction. The Vek are an improvised government formed by individuals of various trades and skills. Mechanics, miners, captains, engineers, all of various backgrounds, are able to cooperate and deal in order to maintain a society in which insurgents and deserters are able to function independently. This being said, the Vek lack establishments which allow for mass construction, meaning for new vessels, the Vek have to rely on piracy. Nobody likes to do it, but some 'mercenaries' among them are willing to kill and steal to survive. This has earned them the face of terrorists to the civilian populous still loyal to HES.

    - Saarinen had a troubled past on the old mining colony in the Gamma Draconis system. Forgotten, the Gamma Draconis mining colony was left to cruel management without the HES coming to regularly enforce upright conditions. Saarinen and her twin brother grew up on this colony, working once they could operate the equipment.

    After her brother broke a leg in a mining incident, Saarinen decided they'd had enough abuse and stowed away with him on a freighter that came regularly for resource pickups. She joined the Vek and started in lower ranks on a mining vessel retrofitted into a tactical cruiser. Simple self defense and point defense emplacements had been replaced with proper military grade gauss emplacements.

    After four years working on the CDSV-8-139-M Vek Karma, Saarinen had stored away her own credits from her many missions to acquire a new ship of her own. Along with her brother, a fellow 'trooper' as they called themselves, and a small handful of others from the Vek Karma, they joined their funds to puchase a small frigate to carry out their own jobs for higher fees. Assassination, heist, and commandeering jobs. A deal with a military impound sector's manager had gotten her a good discount, and after quite the reputation together, he finally agreed to turn over an old MDNV-9-16-RE, which she had aptly named the Kir-Ra'Shi. Military Designated Naval Vessel, Heavy Cruiser, sixteenth itteration. Nicknamed the Vindicator series, the MDNV-9-16 series had been an intimidating vessel. Hard-hitting, fast... if not a little clumsy. Of course, later itterations added more rounding features, and improved structure forms, making this model entirely obsolete.

    Kara had been months into redesigning it. Planning all of the retrofits. Two years had been spent pushing the darker jobs nobody else would do. The high pay funded the extreme modifications she'd made. Guns modernized, torpedo tubes emplaced, two hangar bays, point defense fitted, with several higher end combat AI. The only fit left by the time she started running military hit-and-runs was the outdated reactor and FTL drive. The component itself, along with the process of exchanging it out of the ship...

    To keep her crew's quality of life, and keep improving her 'child' as she refers to the Kir, she will continue taking the less moral mercenary jobs, storing away funds until she can sustain her crew. And in her need to prosper, Kara has come to develop a sharp and quick shot, deadly tactical mind... And surprisingly, an incredibly protective personality over her loyal crew.

    - Auren Piasecka originally served on her family's cargo ship, the CDSV-4-12 CCV Hallowell. The cargo freighter had gone through her family through from her grandfather. A very old freighter practically on its last bolts. The engine is heavily outdated, along with its FTL drive. They often have to run through the Jumpgate network. The vessel has malfunctioned regularly, and with conditions regularly worsening, due to more and more faults, the Hallowell could only have a decade left, if they're lucky when Auren Piasecka left.

    Their vessel had dropped a distress call, and when a shuttle of mercenaries came, they had actually been left with minimal losses after seeing the lack of value. What little they carried would be sold and the credits earned would be entirely spent on repairs and rations. Instead, Auren Piasecka struck a deal with the mercenary captain, to come along as her new chief engineer in return for their family's safety. Seeing as she alone could keep the Hallowell running, the mercenary captain, Kara Saarinen, took her along as a valuable asset to the eventual running of the MDNV-9-16-RE Vek Kir-Ra'Shi.

    MATTHIAS SCHWERNER

    - Schwerner had grown up in a military family. A proud lineage of officers back to the sea-born vessels on Old Earth. However, Schwerner found her preferred to command shoulder to shoulder with his men. As such, he opted for a position as a field command position.

    Instead, following a tour on Giesse in the Infantry divisions, he was selected for a cooperative effort between his division and an armoured division. Following the success of this assault, Schwerner was taken to selection for the SuVV program, where he tested for weapon proficiency and pressure mentality.

    In graduating from this program, Schwerner became a Shocktrooper for the SuVV Squad 7-94. It was there that he learned the darker side of the Humanitarian Enforcement System, reporting based off information provided by CIO. Given intel he came to be less and less comfortable with, he sent int a report for misbehaviour in his failsafe implant. He was put under to remove it, and was kept under watch until it could be reinstalled. Instead, Commander Schwerner had gone rogue.

    His escape was followed by a hijacking of his carrying vessel, escape to a planet surface, where he defended himself for four days while an emergency beacon he'd tuned to give a civilian signal broadcasted his location. A Vek vessel finally came to loot the ship, warned off the military cruiser, and took him prisoner until he could explain and prove his situation to his new captain, Captain Kara Saarinen.
