The Virus
Biochemical warfare was a key component in the war before the bombs were dropped. A modified strain of rabies, Virus 245- or as the public called it, Scourge, was on the cusp of being cured when the war turned nuclear.
What The People Know
-Spreads through water and blood.
-Animals and humans can be affected.
-Makes victims paranoid, aggressive, and impulsive.
-Stage 1 begins with patchy hair loss, paranoia, and the partial or complete loss of at least one major sense- smell, sight, or hearing.
-Stage 2 progresses into aggressive behaviors, the heightening of the two remaining senses, and an insatiable hunger.
-Stage 3 rids victims of all logic and reasoning, turning them into shambling, foaming shells.
-Infection has a two-week incubation period before symptoms start
-Death usually occurs within a month of Stage 1 onset unless Mutated.

The Mutated
The nuclear wastes sometimes don't end up killing individuals- oddly, most that survive exposure are those infected with Scourge.
What The People Know
-Mutations can be small, or major- anything from super strength or not feeling pain to extra limbs or giantism can be achieved.
-Smaller mutations are more common, as major ones take a long time to develop.
-Virus progression stops when mutations take place- leaving some Mutated at Stage 1 or simply stopping it before death in Stage 3.
