Okay, so, I thought I had things planned out for Nanowrimo...
And now I'm debating setting that idea aside and going with something else for Nano.
So my ORIGINAL idea was about a regular dude in a boring job, his wife is in a high-profile military-ish job, she gets kidnapped by terrorists, he enlists the help of some friends and goes after her. The biggest thing that makes this book important to me is that I am very subtly flipping the world on its head, and making it matriarchal. Positions of power are held by women, women's word is trusted over a man's, men take a woman's last name when marrying, etc. A very subtle (and not apples-to-apples, but accurate) flip.
HOWEVER, I'm starting to feel a bit 'eh' about this plot right now. I got a new idea that is starting to intrigue me, but it's just the very basic barebones; this idea is about a very important person/world power (male) being kidnapped, taken hostage, whateverwhatever. Threats and demands are sent by the terrorist group or whatever that took him, and while everyone is scrambling to try and fix things, a group of regular women start connecting the dots, and realize that they might be on to something. They try to talk with officials about it, because they want to help, but the officials poohpooh their ideas and send them off (because it's America, they're women, and obviously women don't know much in a scenario like this). So, they decide to take it into their own hands and go rescue the VIP.
As you can see, it's similar to my initial story, but this time it's very much a GIRL POWER story of women standing up and doing what needs to be done, even with such resistance and roadblocks.
What do you guys think I should do?
