Gimp works. I've seen people do amazing things in Gimp. Can you do a slice of cake and knitting needles?

I could do some cake easily but I'm not sure how to make knitting needles look anything other than lines.
Pretty much- at that size, knitting needles would just be lines with little dots on the ends.

That's probably about as close to knitting needles as you're going to get at this size. The only other way I could think of to make it more obvious would be to include another prop to provide context, such as a ball of string, but there's really no room for that in the icon.
My suggestion would be to let the knitting needles go for the icon, and then include them along with a bunch of other generally random stuff that we like in the group banner.

I agree. The cake icon's good as-is, and we can go hog-wild with the banner, which is much bigger. Wouldn't it be cool if all current members contributed something to the banner? X3

Yeah, I realized that the red theme was giving me a headache, so I changed it to blue. I'm thinking of changing the font from black to a dull dark blue, see how that works. I'm still getting used to this much customization.
