Here is where I'm going to post the ideas that I had. I would like everyone to post their opinions on the subjects and feel free to throw in your own ideas as well. I'm rather flexible. I've had created such things like this in the past on other games. I used to create mini towns using the guild feature on Neopets. I'm still learning the group function on here but I can usually pick up things quickly.
I'm not sure if I want to do one huge plot where everyone participates in or if I want to create the Academy and all its features such as (classrooms with classes, secret societies, dorms,.. ect) and allow everyone to rp within the Academy but add new events within the academy.. I probably explained that weird. (Sorry for the run on sentences. I have a few ideas and my mind is jumbled up trying to get everything out.)

By new events I mean stuff that suddenly happen like a large dragon attacking the main entrance way. (That was just an off the top of the head example)
Some ideas I was thinking about:

1. Classrooms- I was thinking of having each teacher create a topic on the classroom forum. The first post would be an introduction to the course then a short lesson (lets say 3-5 paragraphs at least). Following the lesson would be a debate topic pertaining to that lesson and the students that are 'enrolled' into the class would answer to the debate in the mind frame of their character. However I am looking for more creative approaches to this subject.

2. Secret Societies- I was thinking that we could have about four secret societies that watches students and invites them to their group. However I was thinking that this is something not ever student is invited to. Obviously in real secret societies only those that fit the requirement or whatever is invited. We can tie these societies later on within the plot or Academy.

3. Student organizations- Another thing real colleges have is student organizations. I don't have any real example for these.. Just an idea to throw out there and hopefully get some feed back and ideas on.

4. Dorms- I was thinking all new students are assigned dorms. We could group them like 5-10 to a dorm area where they interact with one another. I think this would help start up random interactions rather than everyone just migrating to their own interest. I mean in school we are all forced to interact with everyone whether we get along or not.. It would be interesting to see how these interactions go.
5. Student Handbook- This is basically the rules and expectation page. It will post everything the students need to know for navigating and attending life at the Academy.

6. Faculty Handbook- This is a deep in-depth guideline that I'm going to distribute out to all faculty (mods). This is so all staff know what is expected within the Academy and to keep everything up to standards that we all create.

I hope that everything I'm writing so far has some interest. Please feel free to add anything at any time. I would like to use this time to discuss and come up with everything needed to get this group off to a strong start. Like I've stated before I'm looking to be fully involved in this. When I start a project like this I tend to go all out. I just hope I can keep up the activity after much work is put into it. Its one of the reasons why I quit playing the guilds on neopets. I put so much effort and time into creating basically an organization and people lose interest mainly because they don't want to put effort into it themselves.
Hmm about two sections for rp? One section could have the huge plot while the other doesn't have a plot driving it allowing for more free rps. That way people who like huge plots have somewhere to go and those who prefer more of a sandbox setting has that as well.

To stay within a strict setting community that wouldn't be possible. I mean if the main plot had the front walls blown down then not everyone's rp would reflect that in the sandbox setting. But I'm not certain. The thought is definitely in consideration. I'm hoping to get more opinions on the subject.
I was inclined to think that the two sections would work like different worlds I.E what happens in one doesn't have to happen in the other.

That could work I suppose. I'm going to jot the idea down so it can be tossed into the mix.

Feel free to add input to anything else!
I"m going to call it a night. I know I said I was going to stay around but I'm barely keeping my eyes open as it is.. I'll keep checking my phone for new posting updates but I don't know how active I'll be. I'm off tomorrow so I'll be around majority of the day. Hopefully that is when everyone else is! Have a good evening guys.
And of course I only notice that this topic has been made after you leave. But, my main things have less to do with the structure and more with the content. Fluff, not Crunch, to borrow a term from Tabletop RP.

Diversity. Usually in these kind of things, you find Vampires, Werewolves, Angels, Demons, and Humans, with a little of whatever monster movie is big this month. Let's focus on representing a variety of creatures here. There are a great many cool creatures we could use, even sticking exclusively with Humanoids. The Indians/Persians give us Asura, Apsaras, and Rakshasa, the Japanese give us Nobera-bo, Tengu, and a whole bunch of others. Sadly my knowledge of mythologies is lacking when it comes to humanoid creatures of American myth, as well as many of the smaller Asian countries. But I know that there are things like Naga in Vietnamese myth, which are humanoid from the waist up and snakes from the waist down, and Native American myth gives us creatures like the Wendigo, a nigh-invincible creature that's born when a witch (according to native american myth, Witches consume souls to survive and cannot eat normal food) kills a family member as part of a ritual to gain power.
I don't know if we want some way to organize all these races or not, or if we even care what races are used. To me, if we're going to make some European mythologies true, we may as well do other fun ones.

That's my main point, and I am sure I will have my two cents about other matters, but that's the one I am concerned most about.

A very good point indeed! Yes a wide diversity is needed I have no objection against that. The only reason why I stated vampires, werewolves, and witches is because that is all that came to my mind. But anything that fits both supernatural and mythical is welcomed.

As to how we would organize everything I'm thinking throwing them all together.. See how they interact with other creatures. That is why I kind of want to do the dorm idea where we (or the mods) divide the students up into dorms of 5-10 students and they are "living" with those creatures. We can create a dormitory forum and each dorm room can have those 5-10 roleplay with one another as if they were in their living areas.
More of my Idle fluff thoughts.

Lots of supernatural creatures have supernatural weaknesses. Wolf's bane, Silver, Garlic, sunlight, salt barriers, etc. In a way, a school that catered to supernaturals would be a lot like a school that catered to the handicapped.
for instance, I would imagine garlic is not used not only in the main campus, but likely there's a list of things you can't have in a given place in sets of dorms.

I imagine a sign outside each building listing the things you can't bring in. Like, one of the dorm buildings is where they put all the vampires (maybe not only the vampires, especially if there are shared weaknesses) so that only one building needs the "No garlic, no religious symbols, no UV emitters" sign and the guy who's job it is to check for those things. As well, said dorm would probably have wide halls and doors, to facilitate bringing in coffins and grave dirt.

Meanwhile, if the school had a Kappa student, he would probably need a spotter, to make sure nothing causes him to spill the water held in the dish on top of his head, or, if it does spill, get more water for it very quickly.

I'm going to imagine the punishment for either bringing in something lethal knowingly (for instance, passing out holy bibles in a dorm building with vampires) or denying someone of something they need to survive (purposely knocking over the kappa to make him spill water) would carry heavy punishments.

As always, these are ideas and musings and nothing I say is to be taken seriously without discussion.

I never really gave thought to much of the weakness of different creatures. I don't know how we could really incorporate the weakness because each myth is written differently. But since this is a college we'll just hope they are mature enough to act accordingly. We would probably have a no death rule in place or no death without consent.
I wanted to apologize for my absence. I've been sick the last three or four days. I'm still not feeling well so I can't promise to be fully active in creating. I rather be well when creating than sick and only doing half of my best. So hopefully more into the week I'll have more for us to work on. Please keep posting ideas and comments.

I assumed something like that would be in place anyways. As always, I'm talking in-universe rather than out with these things, the kind of things a school with these creatures would have.
True, but there are some pretty common weaknesses like silver and holy objects.

Then we should have a ban on them or at least the major ones. Or at least a ban of using them on other students.

But it holds that these would be around somewhere. An Apsaras is going to have her prayer objects. There's no way to stop it, it's who she's going to be. So she probably wouldn't be placed in the same building of dorms as, say, a vampire.
Again, I'm talking school culture more than RP rules.

Then we will group accordingly no biggie. The object can be around but in certain areas.
Okay so before we get into too much details of the Academy universe we need to figure out how we want the group set up. What kind of things would you guys like to see within the group?

I have experience in creating guilds on neopets but I've never created a group on here before. I notice that here I'll have a little more freedom in writing where on neo I had to keep it kid friendly.

What kind of things do you think people would be interested in and want to be apart of?
