Combatant workouts were the worst. Oh, sure he was always good at them. Hell, he was a captain at this point. But gods, he hated getting up early. The only thing that made it any better was that Kassandra was his suitemate, and she was hilarious in the morning because she was even more tired and irritable than he was. In fact, she was just hilarious in general when she wasn't giving out orders in that stupid, Ambrosia way of hers.

It was also kind of hot, but no one needed to know he thought that. He was pretty sure everyone (at least the Instructors) knew about his longtime crush on her, and his propositions towards her, all of which had failed.

That didn't mean he wouldn't try again.

He approaches her at dinner, so everyone could see her accept (which she would definitely do this year). She was sitting at a table, speaking to Gil Berlitz about something.

He put his hands down in front of her, so they were laying on the table. She looked up, raising an eyebrow.

"You're blocking my view of the students, Your Grace." She said, almost in a teasing tone.

"For a good reason." He said, and the sensation of what felt like ice moving through his body from his heart to his fingertips started. Literal ice started to form on the table, and it spelled out one question.

'Will you go to the Ball with me?'

She took one look at him, and placed her fingers on the table as well. His proposition melted as soon as her fire moved around, spelling out 'NO'.

Welp.

He picked up his bottle of vodka which he had been carrying in case this happened, easily chugged a good half of it, and walked away, even though his colleagues clearly thought this was funny.

After all, it was the twenty-fourth time he had asked, and the twenty-fourth time Kass had refused him.
