TRIGGER WARNING: Cursing

The halls of Vijprak were impressive, at times even disorienting in their expanse and grandeur. Nothing quite as gilded as Rajan, certainly, but it never failed to impress new entrants. Maydril was hardly new to the place, though she'd never studied there, outside of simple language courses, nor was she there, now, to take up classes. No, she had very specific things to see to.

As usual, the exceptionally short elf ignored the stares she received from passersby, fingers idly running through the coarse fur of the great silver dog that walked beside her. Maydril had at least changed into something finer than her usual wear from the infirmary, sporting an orange tunic with dark, snugly fit pants, sandals silent on the stone floor.

It was after this trek through the crowded noon halls that May found the correct door, nearest the stables. Her knuckles rapped quickly against the door frame, Chandra sitting down beside her patiently.
Nirthus blinked his eyes open at the sharp rapping on his office door.
"Oh gods...go away " he moaned into the pile of papers he had been napping on.
Paper?
Why was he asleep on that? What happened to pillowy bossoms of young nubile things? Papers? Desk?
DOOR. More knocking.
Office
Restock.

WORK
He was awake. At work. Two very unpleasant things coming together specifically to ruin an otherwise perfect day.

"Shit, damn!" He cursed as he jumped up,knocking over papers, ink, bottles and at least one forlorn half eaten lunch as he made for the door.
Running a hand through his hair he grabbed the door knob and pulled The door wide.
To say Maydril was unimpressed would be a clear understatement. She stared up at the elf answering the door, and then past him, into the wreck that was his office. Then back up at him, brow raising high.

"I am here to speak with the kennel master. Is she in?" Her voice was more or less flat, but it wouldn't be incredibly hard to pick up a hint of disdain, if one paid attention to the slight frown of her lips. This elf had a foreign accent.
"She?" Nirthus blinked and rubbed the side of his head as he stared blankly down at the small elf.
"Oh ooh you must mean Uzma...my assistant!" He smiled wide, pleased that he had figured this little bit of reality puzzle out so swiftly.
"She isn't in today..but I am. Bit of a change yeah?" He gave a little laugh.
Maydril continued to be unimpressed. Annoyed, even, perhaps. Well, if she wasn't expressing it, the dog sure was. Chandra let out a throaty, yapping whine, ending in a low grunt.

"Well. As soon as you are awake and ready to work, the Temple is seeking two new dogs. They need to be of age, trained for the hunt, and female." It was delivered in a firm voice, from someone used to probably ordering others around.
"Wait..wait..I'm fine really..let me just grab the rosters and we can go find you your dog's eh?"
He reached into the abyss of papers next to the door and pulled out the needed papers.
"See? Expert filing system!"
He tapped the scrolls against his palm.
"Right...let's go....ummmm lady...umm" he fumbled around with closing the door behind him
The stare was silent; pointed teeth grit together just slightly.

"Maydril. I am a cleric at the Temple." The man was dimwitted, sure, but hopefully that information would get his rear in gear. After all, the Temple was one of their most important customers.

The silver dog that had come with her was up on its feet again as Maydril gave Nirthus space. "And you are, kennel master?"
"Magsi,Nirthus Magsi" he pointed at the dusty, faded and off center little plaque next to the door, below it was a much nicer, newer, and more legible plaque that read "Uzma Lakhani" and in much, much smaller print below that "assistant kennel master"
Nirthus turned and started to walk down the hall towards the kennel area, stretching and stifling a yawn wth his hand.
Chandra took the lead, as soon as the pair began to move; she knew where she was going, after all. The dog stopped at the door, and waited.

"I never see you around. Wouldn't Uzma be a better fit to the title? I hope she is at least paid well for how hard she works."

May was generally not the talkative type...but it seemed her ire got her lips moving.

Moving outside, the kennels were not far from the exit used. In general, the area was very open, but for the runs used for pups too young to understand they shouldn't wander off. Some dogs rested in the shade, some working with students trainees. Only a few looked up, at first, looking away in disregard for the so-called kennel master. But many dogs stood in respect and greeted Chandra, the dogs brushing against each other repeatedly, communicating.

Maydril stood, surveying the animals. It wasn't as if she were an expert on them.
"Oh she really would be fantastic wouldn't she? " He wondered aloud as they followed behind the dog.
"I honestly don't know how much she is paid...never complains though. If she wanted more she could have it. She could even have the damn position wholesale. But then...then she would have to deal with dear sweet Nithya on a very, very regular basis. At court too. No one as good as Uzma deserves that fate"
"Of course. How terrible. Indeed, give the position to someone who has yet to even show me which dogs he thinks best fit my needs."

What a useless fop. The small elf finally moved away, finding Chandra, crouching. "He's absolutely no help, is he? You know what I'm looking for. Go find them. I trust your judgement."

And the silver dog barked, moved away to investigate the dogs, taking direction from those she'd already spoken to. Maydril stood up once more, and for once, the look she gave Nirthus showed very clear dislike.
Nirthus smiled and looked away from the hostile gaze of the other elf.
"So any luck bringing I'm a live one recently? Heard the college is working on some sort of net deployment system attached to the dogs. Nithya and her colleagues have been all a twitter about the prototypes going out."
He idly watched Chandra.

"Seems a waste of time to me, I think work on a system of anticipating the Vaasa before they appear would be more useful. But apparently that requires "more study" and live test subjects. The idea of live ones gives me the willies." He shuddered and rubbed his arms.
