Introduction
In an alternate timeline where humans have opted to keep their numbers limited and leave nature alone, feral species have climbed the food chain in their stead. The land, more prehistoric than the world initially planned, caters only to the strong and the wise. With volcanos that erupt at a moment's notice, canyons that steal away lost souls, swamps that entangle curious minds, and forests that hide the most foul of predators, Sawtooth Hollow is the embodiment of a world stricken by this harsh lifestyle.
Of all species to walk the lands of the Americas, the Sawtooth Varg was perhaps the most intelligent and vicious. Legends tell of a mutated dire wolf who gathered a harem of females, creating an inbred animal hellbent on war, bloodshed, and power. Cockiness that grew from generations of strength and victory led to internal struggle, causing the species to split in four separate groups. Thus, the descendants terrorized the lands.
Every year the subspecies of the Sawtooth would gather among these lands to take part in a challenge for a species leader, the King. They did not fear any others and did not expect what was to come. Three large wolf packs banded together and ambushed the unsuspecting Vargs, who perished in a massacre so bloody it supposedly stained the soil forever red.
Now it has been dubbed Sawtooth Hollow, out of respect and fear for the misunderstood species that fell among its canyons. Wolves claim the lands are haunted by the souls of the Sawtooth Vargs, while others believe they have survived. Many claim to see shadows of strange animals resembling the Sawtooth at night and others tell of hearing abnormal howls at the red moon. Most locals do not venture towards the massacre lands in claims that they will be cursed for life. Despite this, the Sawtooth Hollow is thought to be mostly peaceful in the wake of its destructive past.
It is said history is always written by the victors.
But the war is not over. -
