The Mystic Tavern

So... I asked over on the FB page if people would be up for a Grand Ball like in the old days, and the response was definately positive.

We had some discussion about how to incorporate the forum and the nexxus chat as alot of people have said they only do live chat, and others have said they cant do live chat due to time zone clashes etc.

So, I suggested one alternative:

The Nexxus Chat could be the OOC chat thread.. where we could sit around, maybe have a few drinks in Real life and shoot the shit, catch up with old friends and just have a laugh like the old days.

The chat feature on here, is a chat room, so people could post in the chat (therefore it is LIVE RP) but it also records the posts in a forum context (if that makes any sense? ) This means people who can only forum RP could also join in on the fun.

Nobody really responded to that idea that much but then Jake had a really good idea about alternate realities and two different balls going on at the same time... unfortunately I have tried to contact him but I havent heard back from him yet This idea seemed to be really popular on the FB page so it definately needs more attention.

The one thing that people seemed to agree on is that they wanted it this weekend.... but.. its now nearly upon us and nothing has been decided upon or set up..

So..lets discuss shall we? A good old fashioned brain storming session. As alot of people dont have FB Im going to try to keep major discussions on the forum but I will provide a link on the FB page for anyone who wants to be involved to come over here and offer their input. So please, spread the word? If we want to have a Ball like the days of old.... lets get busy and do this thang.

One idea Shannon and I were just tossing around is that the Ball could be held outside? Maybe use the tavern.. but also have access to the Mystic Lake and Mystic Forest.. this would allow for multiple rooms and different balls to accomodate the Live Chat and forum Rps..?

Shannon also had the idea of a frozen Lake as a dance floor

I prefer your idea concerning the chat vs. forums issue, MB. "Two alternate realities" sound cool (in theory), but also probably more confusing than what the idea's worth. And if this site has a feature that documents chat events (and sticks them in our very own forum), why not take advantage of that? This is OUR place, after all; no knocks on the Nexxus thing, but if we could keep the community in roughly the same place -- chat AND forums here, instead of forums here and chat somewhere else -- it'd be wiser. Easier. Just a better idea all around.

Short version: I'm with you. I vote we have the ball on this chat/forum and utilize the Nexxus chat as a place for fun OOC/plotting/wise-cracking. Also -- love the idea of a frozen lake as a dance floor, as well as extending the ball so that it covers the Mystic's grounds. Brilliant!

I am working on the descriptions for the Forest, Lake, Cemetary/Graveyard, and Tavern. I AM. But my kids have been sick, so it's slow going, sorry.

But I had an idea for the theme, especially if it's going to take place outside. The Lake could act as a dancefloor, the magic of the Tavern taking hold and making a "night" of whimsy for all. At the center of the lake could be a huge bonfire with altars around. Every player and character has hopes or dreams that they like to see fulfilled. Characters could go out to this altar, write those things down and toss them into the fire, hoping the magic of the Tavern will allow those things to come about.

No ONE PERSON or Character has to be in charge of the Ball itself. What if that whimisical magic of the Tavern threw a Ball instead, welcoming old and new souls alike to its warm embrace?

And I'm tired from puke duty with the kids all night, so if that makes no sense, I apologize.

Sounds awesome, lady. Love the idea of the altars/bonfire and ESPECIALLY the idea of keeping it communal -- "no one person" throwing a party, but rather the magic of the Tavern itself. Muy excelente!

And let me know if you need help with any of the descriptions. As the official "Bleets the Grammar Tweaker/Post Cleaner-Upper," I'd be more than happy to help polish up our super-awesome Ball posts (I know, I know -- grammar's a damn boring thing, but it's my life...gaaah). For all of the hard work we're putting into this, things should look as flawless as they do in our minds!

I think the kids gave me their germs! I don't feel so good atm. Then again, maybe someone playing the games just smells bad and I don't notice it right off...We'll see.

I'll get back to work on the descriptions when I'm not feeling nauseous.

I think thats a great idea, with the magic of the tavern taking this feat on for itself. Definitely should be lots of lights, candles or other magical means, giving it all the more magical feeling I think. Music, dancing and drinking. I can't wait!

Okay... so we pretty much have the setting.. (Outside.. the Mystic Lake frozen as a dance floor and fairy lights through the trees of the Mystic Forest A huge bonfire.. candles.. music.. *grins* sounds LOVELY. )

Theme... well.. the whole.. "Make a wish" idea seems a popular one.. we could have a full moon.. or.. a waxing moon. As the moon waxes, some Pagans believe that this is the time to draw things towards us, so the whole "make a wish" idea could work well

I suppose the thing we need to really decide on is WHERE are we going to play?

Forum Chat for IC play.. the benefits are:

*The forum chat makes a click noise everytime someone posts. So if we are in the Nexxus chat for OOC, we can hear the click and know that somebody has posted on the IC chat thread here.

*The forum chat, while being a chat room, also keeps a record of the posts and keeps them as forum replies.. so just like this thread is viewed.. it will have a post by Leets, a post by me.. etc.. But at the time of playing, all we see is the chat room

*And most important.. it doesnt have the bugs that Nexxus does with the booting and not refreshing. PLus.. having two different chats.. one for OOC and one for IC.. means that the main IC thread isnt broken up with OOC all through it (something that most of us find annoying for something as major as a Ball).

Draw backs are....

People have to join the forum to be able to join the chat.
And there is no user list available on the forum chat (but Im working with the admin to rectify this, ASAP. )

I cant really think of any other drawbacks.. but please add them to the list if you can think of any..

Yes! Love the "making a wish"/pagan celebration/waxing moon idea. Fairy lights and candles, a frozen lake and the Tavern's magic permeating it all...how absolutely magical (and just like the old days!) does that sound, people? I can't wait.

Regarding the chat issue, I vote for here. Like I said before, it just seems to make more sense. And the pros/cons you've offered sort of make the case. Either way, I'm going to be there. Leetah hasn't seen the light of day (uh...night?) in AGES.

Yeah I dont like the idea of having the community.. "Scattered" to different places. It would be good to have us all under the same roof so to speak..

I love the setting idea and theme of making a wish, sounds perfect.

I vote for having it on the forums here because I have a lot of trouble with the nexxus chat, and am also in another timezone so I tend to miss a lot. Only drawback I noticed of the chat is that you can't seem to change your font, though I may just not know the way to do it.

Yeah you can't change your font apart from make it bold or italics. How would you like to change it? I'm going to be asking the admin if we can have different colours

Thanks for your vote It's that very reason that we think forum chat is the better option for so many of us

Just basic colours would be good, I find it easier to distinguish between different colours than a lot of black text. It also makes it a bit more personalised.

Yeah I know what you mean..however the fact that each post is seperate does help keep them apart

I vote for here, being a central timezone American it would be quite difficult for me to join the chat.

She has already fixed two of our suggestions and had done many more when the server crashed Poor poppit. I think the size issue is of the highest priority regarding the chat and forum RP option with the ball, so I'm guessing it wont actually be this weekend.. ? I mean we can still party on hearty at the Mystic Tavern.. I can spread the word and we can have a good ole fashion IC parrrrrrrtayy.. it just wont be the Grand Ball as we envision until we work out our forum chat here. How does that sound?

Im sure it wont take long to sort out the chat issue here. In the meantime we have our home at the Nexxus Chat where we can all meet up and share a drink IC.
