First off I want to say that I am so incredibly sorry for the lack of updates! I've been sick for the past five days or so and haven't been able to sit down to work on anything let alone go to work. Also please reply to the BOLD questions if you can!
Most of the 32bit patches (moving our existing 8bit ones into the editor mostly) have been transitioned over. This leaves us with the task of updated these patches to actual 32bit artwork which will take a long time. Currently the plan is to get the dream created in the 32bit editor so that when the 32bit update goes live so can the new dream! This unfortunately puts our tentative plans for April in abit of a grey area. I've tried to work with both editors in tandem but the way they do the new dream editor in particular is very different than the old one. For instance those of you familiar with animated objects know that the animation resides in 1 Object, just multiple Frames. Well the Walls now occupy 1 Object for each actual Wall with the Frames being the flipped version. It took some time to figure that one out and you can bet it was the hard, frustrating way. Despite giving us these tools to use they don't appear to have given out any steps as to how to work it.
Currently we are leaning toward Zellis as the city of choice! Last I checked it was leading in the polls and it is in the middle enough to warrant all four seasons (Dragonclaw I believe was the other leader and is farther north). The dream will likely be called either Zellis or The Dragonlands, if we go with the latter it will give us the option to move our community around if it gets stale or we just need a change in venue from time to time.
Does anyone have any preference as to the city's size?
Meaning do we want to go with an expansive, bustling port (think Valewood/Kingsrill but busier) or something more medium? With our plans to make RP easier to find via use of 'pods' or 'districts' it might be easier to go with something alittle smaller than Vale. Personally I was thinking something smaller, homier, meant to nurture community aswell as create it.
Do any of you want your businesses to carry over?
I know most of the current businesses are 'abandoned' from an OOC standpoint, as in the players that they were created for have left even though an NPC has taken over ICly. I plan to have a Business District in the new dream that will house at first empty buildings that can be filled after the dream has opened for new businesses however I want to ensure people that have a business right now can carry theirs over. Please note that going forward business will not have a living quarters unless explicitly requested to cut down on quarters outside of the Residential District.
Do we want to alter the plot?
Here is the question I consider Ultra Important and one I would like all of your opinions on if at all possible. We've been talking about this for some time now and I want to now extend it to you as players. I'd like to ask that you include a YES or NO in your post somewhere so we can keep track of opinions on this like votes, and to also consider this with an open mind on plot.
We'd like to roll the plot all the way back. To the dawn of time you ask? Totally. No. Not really. As much as we'd all like to see Rex as a neanderthal (really, he already is), I'm talking about to 2008. For those unfamiliar, 2008 was the last time an official update occurred to the Dragonlands Canon. It was when Talz announced the death of beloved King Constantine and the exact moment in which his ruthless shit-kid son Callistin took power. You can read the posts HERE (the top half) and I can also provide the original Furc forums post if anyone is interested. This would give us a plethora of plot to use right from the start AND the ability for us to start out plot from scratch rathter than 'reacting' to what we think might have happened years down the road. I've kept our King in a Schrodinger's state of Alive and Dead so that people dream hopping would have an easier time dealing with the plot but I think that ultimately screwed us out of some Grade A conflict plot.
What would this do to your characters timeline? Think of when you move from one dream to another, one community or canon to the next. The only stuff that carries over is what matches with the current canon. One of the characters I see this changing the most is Rex, as his story has been wrapped up in the main DL plot since his creation. But most characters I've seen would change very little, it at all, with rolling the plot back. If need be we can work on a case by case basis to carry what needs to be over and modify the plot. I personally would really like to do this, it'd be so much fun to literally create out own world from the last moment Talz updated it.
Anyway, I took a nap in the middle of writing this and forgot what more I wanted to say. I do urge you all to consider the plot rollback, I think it'd be a whole lot of fun! Plus I'd love to hear the cons of such a thing so we could work those out too. So please don't hesitate to post your opinions! I adore you all! Let me know if anything needs clarification, or if you have additional questions, etc.

Anyway, my reaction to this is no (please, Callistin, just die already). I played in Challiston Cross in 2008 until 2011; when the plot began and things began to get progressively worse for herbivores/omnivores... and then after my break, I played in Greystone with the things get even worse, so I'm pretty over this plot by now. :x For some reason it's a popular one, but perhaps I would be into it if I hadn't already played it for 8 years! My old eyes see nothing shiny anymore.
.... and I would be very sad for Delysia to lose all her friends
DRAUM:
Consider a secondary branch of the bank in the works for the new dream!
It does seem like it has effected very little. Most people don't play too in line with it, that's not to say that's the case for all. Most of my alts for instance have little to do with it, Rex being the glaring exception.
As for resets, this is the part I forgot post-nap!
It is important to note that though we might choose a different time line for the new dream that doesn't mean anyone will have to roll their characters back.
The important thing to keep in mind here is that nothing needs to change unless it conflicts with the plot at hand. For instance, did your character RP in a dream where the amazing King Callistin died? Well here in Vale our king is presumed to still be alive and that has no doubt impacted you little. Most of us tend to keep our alt's histories from one dream to the next and we all do this collective... fudging of the specifics just to keep things nice and clean and to avoid any conflicts. This is no different really. I do not and never intend to force anyone to reset their alts! That would be cruel really, and if that ever became the case I'd keep Vale open (but it won't be). So unless something specifically conflicts with the new plot it doesn't need to change. If you however want to take this opportunity to make changes (there have been a few characters in the dream that have already rolled their alts back and reset them) that is completely up to you.
DELYSIA:
I too like the idea of something cozy. Somewhere between a Big City and a Small Town... a Medium Hamlet maybe.
Also in regards to Dely losing friends, see the reply to Draum up to. Totally not a thing I promise! I personally hate the loss of friends/familiarity during a change in dreams and we all kind of try to avoid it for good reason. No one would have to worry about that unless, like Rex, the rollback of the plot it majorly impacting (and even then it will just be a matter of reworking his history and nothing much more than that unless I decide to take the sheers to him!)
As for the Canon Plot as a whole, it is popular because it's really the only plot we have to go on that is official. It doesn't surprise me that many if not all of the DL dreams have used it as a springboard for their own storylines. I for one do not wish to stray too far from the source material and if we were to create out own point in time with fully fleshed out details we'd run the risk of just that. My reasoning will be posted in just a moment I promise! I just have Sick Brain and tend to ramble ever more than I usually do.
Despite playing for a very long time I didn't get into Dragonlands until about... 2009? Maybe later. I somehow didn't manage to get into CC either, always off doing other things as I tend to be a one-dream-many-alts kind of person. But I was prominent in Greystone which impacted Rex in particular. So I can definitely see why the thought of rolling the canon back would be exhausting. You'd have to go through it all over again! But the alternative is just as exhausting in a different way, we'd have to sit down and hash out everything all over again from the pieces of the The King Is Dead plot, either that or make our own stuff up and that would be like I mentioned before just drifting too far from my tastes. Not sure how I got so wrapped up in DL canon but here I am! Unable to RP in anything else...
I keep going off on tangents, sorry!
AH. Yes. The direction of the plot!
You can see HERE where the original canon post was in the works. Towards the end Talz goes alittle in depth about how this will steer the plot going forward (even if she didn't do much with it after. I wish she'd come back!).
This might have a great deal to do with why people often revisit this particular plot point (among the act it was the last real one. ) The people that assisted Talz in actually molding that particular plot point did, as she realistically mentioned, very little to overthrow the mad King Callistin. I can think of only one dream where he was killed though a few dreams seemed to be going in that direction. In the storyline she says:
Really why I am mentioning this at all is that if we decided not to roll things back it wouldn't really aid in dissuading your very, very correctly place ire at the King. If we decided to continue from where we are he'd likely rear his ugly head and squash every rebel down the best he could.
However, if the plot our dream created from the start of it all lead to a different outcome, that would be fantastic! Mostly because he needs to get what is coming to him... I personally like to call him Shitking/Shitkid.
Alternatively we could roll it back EVEN FURTHER and have our plot work toward Constantine's untimely (and after reading other things Talz has posted, not very accidental) death and go from there but that might be too far/too much and would set our RP to play out on a predecided track which I don't really care for. I like things to be a good mix of player-drived and story-driven plot.
Anyway, sorry to post again so soon! Just wanted to kind of make it clear that nothing really needs to change on the player side of things. Keep the replies coming! OH! And also:
Do you have any ideas for where the plot should start/go?
That way we aren't limiting things to 'Should We Start Here' but more of an open ended type deal.

There was much talk of "This is going to cause a riot!" and "He'll be overthrown within a WEEK!" on Furcadia. On the IC board here, where it mattered more, the actual actions to oppose King Callistin didn't materialize. Popular reaction in-continuity to King Callistin's rule, and the Natural Order, is going to reflect the roleplay in this Thread.
There was a lot of, "Guess I'll watch what happens." Little action was made by players of characters actually committing their efforts to working against the king. There wasn't even much IC badmouthing, much less, organizing a resistance of any kind, either public or private, by the players. (We got one pro-"Natural Order" supporter, though.)
When the question comes up, years later, "Where were YOU when King Callistin was putting these crazy laws into effect?!" the answer will be, "well, most of us just went about our lives, business-as-usual, because we thought it didn't affect us, and the ones whose conscience troubled them the most got drunk every night."
Why should the commonfurre care who the king orders his nobles to marry, right...? Why didn't everybody suddenly take up arms? They have their lives to consider, and the lives of others.

By the time there's protest, King Callistin will have plenty in his warchest to take his share by force.

Whew! I'm glad to hear that not all would be lost
Though I did decide to take a trip back through memory lane! I remember Malgrave did the whole 'taking the castle by force / burn the King!' thing -- but that made sense because... well, Malgrave is where the King is! In any other place, the action wouldn't be centered there... I guess they could get reports of what's going on in Malgrave and maybe organise something, but it would be fairly far removed from the day-to-day workings of the town. Herbi / Omni business / home owners could be upset about upping their tax rates, but if they wanted to go confront Callistin or picket the palace, it'd take place off-stage.
I guess I just don't understand what our little dream would do with this plot to 'finish' it.

Very little, really. It would more serve as a back drop if anything, flavor for our RP. Most of the in-dream stuff would be as a result of it however.
I believe I mentioned this example to the staffers, but the port might be blockaded for instance! Our dream would react to the main, over-arching plot, and it might just move it along if people so fit. So really it would fall between the dreams Malgrave and Greystone in regards to the scale on how the plot works, I hear Challiston Cross was somewhere in the middle of that scale too! Where Malgrave's plot was directly impacted back the plot, and Greystone worked to move it through 'off stage' (stage being Malgrave the city) plot. You get my meaning I think, it's sort of hard to explain when my brain is currently being replaced by scrambled eggs.

I am not really interested in re-working Rae again. I did a major re-vamp to fit into Greystone and then progressed her forward to be more inline with Cannon. I am really a woman that likes to write a story forward without too much erasing or fudging. If its the wish of the majority or the team, thats cool but Rae will probably venture on. the early part of the cannon wasnt kind to this alt and I rather like to see where she is going.

The Valewood Furc Group (the one that gives us the group pounce chat and the badge) will be changing to say 'The Dragonlands' here soon. We are in the midst of creating a new badge so when the Valewood one eventually turns into something more sea-porty don't fret.
ALSO, we got a new group that you can join! Currently the applications don't require anything special but there will eventually be an application similar to the one now (just ensuring people have read and know what the dream is about and nothing more really).
So far we seem to be leaning toward not rolling the plot back from what seems to be the wish not to mess with too much of our character histories. Which I totally get! I prefer to move forward aswell but thought it might be fun to go back and forge out own story. I hadn't realized there were so many characters that would need to change in order to do that though.
With that being said we could just as easily continue right where we left off. However I would like to say that the entire political climate will be different in the new dream. The Shitking will definitely rear his head and stomp down on the very limited rebellion as I'd like to go along with what Talz had said at the end of the 2008 plot.
This wouldn't require anyone at all to change their alt's information/history and could just as easily be attributed by our characters as being in a less 'liberal' area in regards to the difference in atmosphere. A town versus a city, where everyone knows your name, might have stereotypical/conservative values in that sense so it works out anyway.
I am recovering from All The Sickness so I'll resume work on the dream and should hopefully have a 'beta' up for everyone to peek at (PROTIP: you'll need to download the beta client to see it, find it HERE!) and really get a feel for though keep in mind it will likely be in a constant state of flux.

Who would like their residence to carry over?
Would you like an on-map:
1) House
2) Apartment
3) Other (cave, hovel, camp, etc)

One thing we're going to try to avoid going further are business with quarters. I wouldn't mind her having a business and an apartment though. But if that is an issue we can make an exception though there will be a limited amount of those made, likely on a first-come-first-serve basis.

But yeah, as long as the 'living area' is big enough for 3-5 furres it'd be nice to have. They have people over pretty often. @_@
Edit: For the bank, just something small with a desk and a few chairs is fine. No need for a vault. Two-three furres at a time. (Though it's been rare the last few months.)

How did she forget the closet?! Closet is love, closet is life for Dely.
Consider it done and doner! Added to the list.
I do plan on being around a lot more (I keep saying that, I know.) My recovery time has been spent with my boyfriend since he's able to cart my behind around like a ragdoll, and thus he has virtually stolen the computer while he's here (which is always) so he can play league. Once he gets taxes and gets his own this issue should be remedied. If I could I'd love to throw myself in for a shop for Christiane and an apartment. Kind of posh looking on both fronts cause she's a snobby bitch who would demand nothing less.
