Everybody in the fortress must provide some sort of labor in order to be fed and given a bed. Everybody is responsible for something, and there will be no vacation for the survivors! Those who refuse to work are expelled and are no longer welcome within the walls.
Some jobs will nearly always need people to help lighten the workload. Sometimes, someone may die from illness or age and need to be replaced. Jobs can be switched, but some require certain skills and experience to do a good job.
Of course, for the sake of the continuity and keeping things interesting, it's perfectly okay to have a character suck badly doing what they do. But the balance is delicate!
If you can post which job your character does (or wishes to), I can keep a list to help people decide which position has yet to be filled. You may always post a change in jobs if you so please.
It's important to note that I'd really prefer John (and his closest henchmen?) to roleplay most job applications or switches out. We can do this in private messages or create additional boards. This is the most fun and helps build the character.
At this time I'm assuming most of the positions are filled by NPCs, though you're free to take over the name and turn them into a character!

On the wall of John's office was a large cork noticeboard. Various notes and pamphlets were pinned to it, among which a list to keep track of who worked which job. It listed both filled and still needed with the person's name.
Position list.
- Fortress leader: Johnathan;
- Guards: Jettikai; Shawn; David; Henrico;
- Technicians: Jack; Robin;
- Farmers (cattle)*: Greyson; Brian S.;
- Butchers: Hank;
- Farmers (crops)*: Jimmy; Tohmas;
- Bakers: Alan;
- Medics: Brian K.;
- Cleaners: Sammy; Dick; A.J.;
- Kitchen staff**: Sammy; Ward; Jimmy; Rick;
- Tailors/Cobblers: Greg; Ken;
* The farmers responsible for the cattle and crops are also responsible for the creation of byproducts. For example, cows' milk is gathered by the farmers and either stored or processed into other products, such as cheese or butter. Crops like wheat and corn will be processed into flour and grounded for products such as porridge.
** Kitchen staff are responsible for the preparation and serving the food that is consumed by the fortress' occupants. They tend to work closely with the butchers and bakers.

Well I'm glad you didn't!
Any other suggestions for names to add, or positions your characters wants to fill, let me knowwww.
P.S. Jack the technician's real name is Jacqueline Moore, but she looks like a dude and pretends to be one. But sssssh! I think I'll create and RP her if she turns out as awesome as I have in my mind.
Well I can already guarantee chaos will ensue courtesy of Rocky not oo long after he arrives but if it comes down to him getting a job within the fortress before that happens, his bounty hunting experience will probally serve best with him holding down a security job. Just wanted to give ya a heads up on that. Dunno if it'll happen but just in case.

Looking forward to it.
Roxy is likely best as kitchen staff
Haha this is great. I really love that Grey, who hates cheese, gets stuck with cheesemaking too. Rofl. Greyson: Fml. -,-

Would explain why he hates cheese. Lol.

why would he do that? I'm pretty sure her only transferable skill would be cooking as she's not exactly the best shot, so there's no point to her being a guard, as well lets face it she'd likely be a shitty one.
