Morthika

Once upon a time in the land of Morthika, a beautiful Queen ruled the kingdom with a kind heart and generous soul, making her a favourite sovereign of the people Creatures from almost every race and breed imaginable claimed some part of Morthika as their happy home and the land enjoyed a great time of peace for many moons under Moridanu’s reign. With her faithful companion and protector Crowe by her side, the Queen lived happily in her childhood home of Kendelah which was known as the royal palace of Morthika.


Deep beneath the Earth’s core, the evil Dark Lord Lucien grew restless and decided to make a bid for dominance of the land above. A dark and terrible war broke out as death and destruction washed over Morthika in a war that has raged for the past decade.


During that time the Queen has made some loyal friends who have helped her in trying to defeat Lucien once and for all. A chance encounter in the Mystic Tavern one stormy evening led to a romance developing between Moridanu and ODK (the OTHER Demon Keeper).

Camus the faun soon became a brave and trusted ally, as did Talisen Phoenix, the head of the Avalon Academy. Many people and characters have come and gone over the years, each lending their own special flavour to an already intricate tale.


After ten years of epic battles, the war finally reached a terrifying and horrifying climax during what shall be forever be known in Morthika’s History books as “The Battle of Bendelsain.” The winter moon was washed in blood as Lucien opened a portal in the Dancing Devil Inn and Tavern, unleashing hell upon the unsuspecting citizens of Bendelsain in the form of an army of demons led by Lucien’s whore Elyza and her psychotic demonic pal Discord. Moridanu and her army fought valiantly, somehow surviving against the odds and managed to defeat Lucien’s horde of minions. Exhausted and significantly reduced in numbers, the wounded army returned to Kendelah to find Lucien had attacked the palace in their absence. Another battle ensued, this one proving too much for Moridanu and her crew.

Devastated to lose her beloved childhood home, Moridanu and ODK led the few remaining survivors to a sanctuary where they set up camp and began the long and arduous task of attending to the wounded and rebuilding their depleted resources and army.

Crowe took up position as Master of Arms and established a front line of battle, just past the outer gates of what remains of Bendelsain. Supported by a ragtag ensemble of trained soldiers, warriors and farmhands with pitchforks, Crowe is a master of strategy and solely responsible for upholding their one remaining stronghold against Lucien claiming the last remaining port in Morthika.


Now.. we pick up the story almost a year later.


The encampment has quickly become a village with several permanent structures including a barracks, infirmary and a meeting hall that doubles as a general store. There are a few farms providing fresh produce for the villagers and fresh fish is in ready supply from the nearby lake and creeks. Families have built small cabins, putting down roots again despite their future being unclear. Trade routes have been established with Bendelsain and ODK is training people to be soldiers in their rising rebel army. Secluded from the rest of the world by a dense forest and high mountain range, the village soon is known as a haven in war ravaged Morthika and word spreads quickly that it is the place to be. Weary travellers arrive daily and are quickly welcomed into the community by Moridanu and her people.

Crowe has established a strong battlefront, keeping a hold of Bendelsain which has quickly degenerated into a den of thieves. The Dancing Devil Inn and Tavern has been rebuilt and Arianwen Chandell runs a seedy and shady establishment which serves as a front for a secret underground passageway for Moridanu and the encampment.

The marketplace inside the walls of Bendelsain is still intact, but is definitely a place nobody should go to after dark, or alone. The Curiosity Shoppe is still standing, but is currently unoccupied despite its ideal location mere metres from the harbour. Two more brothels have sprouted up in as have various other drinking places and the general feel of the former bustling city is one of dread and despair. Independent assassins, warriors and mages trawl the streets of Bendelsain, offering their services to those who will pay the most.


It is an uncertain time in Morthika but one thing is for certain…. you will need to choose a side, and choose it well.

Morthika began as a story on The Mystic Tavern back in early 2000. The story quickly became so epic that it grew too big for its original location and the players created a website to house the story, its setting and characters.

Over the decade since then, many plots have started up at Morthika as the players have always been a crazy and creative bunch. We hope to bring more of the stories back to life and continue playing with a new generation of players, but for now we are going back to our roots and starting out in our new home just like we did so many years ago..
