"...the Library will endure: illuminated, solitary, infinite, perfectly motionless, equipped with precious volumes, useless, incorruptible, secret."
("The Library of Babel" by Jorge Luis Borges)

The library is not ornate by any means, but the decorated rich dark oak detailing and high ceiling gives it warmth and charm. The walls are lined with bookshelves, some spanning from floor to ceiling while others stop short enough to house globes and rare scrolls, and rolls of bookshelves create cozy little aisles. Light filters through the windows, and a soft dim glow from the lanterns fills the space. The sun reflects off the dust that floats languidly in the air. Tomes of various sizes and ages overflow from the shelves. Some are stacked on the darkly stained wooden floor. A massive sturdy table cuts through the space, its surface covered with parchment and stacks of books and its chairs and benches lined with comfortable cushions. The aroma of parchment, ink, and leather permeates through the air. There is a companionable silence in this space - one that is filled with the promise of adventure, of comfort, and of knowledge.

It is a quiet place, a refuge against the world beyond the walls. Warm, abiding, accepting.

Be sure to be respectful of the publications you borrow for any such offense will result in a hefty fine or worse. The librarian is kind but fierce in her protection of such treasures. There is no fee in exchange of knowledge, but only residents may remove works beyond the door. Publications must be accounted for in the large record tome - with your name, your address, and your signature.
