Chapter 1 - Life in 2077
“The brightest light casts the darkest shadow.”
― Jess C. Scott, The Darker Side of Life
So how has the world developed?
may as well roll technology into this too
“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”
― Arthur C. Clarke, Profiles of the Future: An Inquiry Into the Limits of the Possible
What technology exists in 2077?
-
Chapter 2 - Notable History
“When you want to know how things really work, study them when they’re coming apart.”
― William Gibson, Zero History
Talk about:- World War 3. It was everyone against the U.S. and the U.S. won the war (we all know that's probably not how it would happen) The other alternative was Nuclear Fallout everywhere, so in this "version" of reality they win this massive world war. A lot of countries are affected and it changes the state of the world forever (as it would have in the case of the Nazi's winning WW2, obviously. Neither here nor there.)
- The colonization of Mars and ... eventually Venus. It happened, yep, but not how you think. Venus is not exactly a 'civilization'. It's.... a prison.
- The evolution of Technology. It's... crazy. It's absolutely crazy. Mind maps, dream tuners, artificial intelligence... it's all there. Keep in mind the details of Technology will be kept for another section.
- I guess it should also be mentioned that space travel is possible, to a degree, and we should go into detail about how it's been used... it's not as advanced as it is in the science-fiction movies, mind you. There are ships, yes, they do go light speed, yes, but space travel is FAR from being accessible to a huge portion of the world... and uh... it's usually a one-way trip.
- Other important events that happened between 2000-2077 should be included to maintain the face of the timeline. It should be noted that yes, we are in 2015, and anything past 2015 will be 'theoretical', but everything before that point should be in line with the real world. It's okay to bring up things later like "this isn't how it actually happened" to further the story, creativity and all.

Chapter 3 - People
“Be grateful that you only see the outward man. Be grateful that you never see the passions, the hatreds, the jealousies, the malice, the sicknesses… Be grateful you rarely see the frightening truth in people.”
― Alfred Bester, The Demolished Man
What are the people like? List ethnicity, demographics, so on so forth too. Where do people live? What is their every day life like?
-
Chapter 4 - Places
― William Gibson
List out the regions of the world and what they are like today. Crime high or low? Daily death toll? Advancements? Have any countries combined together into one? Are there any new cities to mention? What does the geography look like? Can anything be applied to the world at large? Is it polluted? What natural disasters are there? Better or worse than they were years ago? Etc.
Regions
to do:
America
United States
List of populous cities
Key cities and regions:- Seattle
Seattle always was striving to make itself out to be a pretty "ahead of the times" city. The World's Fair in 1962 was responsible for that, and Seattle has quickly become the center of technology in the U.S. - New York
Commerce Central of the U.S., The Western Hemisphere, and most of the Eastern Hemisphere too. The U.S. ended up strong-arming a lot of other countries during WW3 which allowed them to become a super giant of trade. - Los Angeles
Figures this would wind up here. What purpose does Los Angeles have? Yep, you guessed it. Media central. Porn! Porn! Strip clubs! Nasty TV shows! Boring old news channel. Well, some things never change. - Detroit
Detroit was always a fairly violent city. Maybe not the most violent, but it certainly is now. As the city has continued to expand upwards and outwards, the dark streets of Detroit are some of the most dangerous in the entire U.S. - Denver
Denver has been heavily militarized as with much of Colorado. Civilians still live there, but it's kept pretty much like a stronghold. It's under constant quarantine more or less. - Las Vegas
Still the old gambler's haven, and potentially one of the most corrupt cities in the U.S. - New Orleans
Hadn't thought about this one in too much detail, but I feel like it's a very underrated city and want to incorporate it as a key location.
Further ideas: Partially underwater, possibly flooded. People still try to use the underwater part of the city, though, which could make some interesting things. - Washington D.C.
Once the capital of the U.S.A., this is only a shadow of its former self now. Home to the prestigious club neXus.
South America
Canada
Alaska
Mexico
Central America
Cuba
Hawaii
Asia
China
China includes Mongolia and Taiwan in the equation, but be sure to detail each of these countries as well.
List of populous cities
Key cities and regions:- Hong Kong
Hong Kong is very slum-like since WW3, but it still remains a powerhouse of China, despite being massively crippled in the war. - Shang-Hai
Shang-Hai is so densely populated that they literally built another city on top of it. DE:HR anyone? - Tianjin
The primary port and likely the primary naval site too... not sure yet. - Shenzhen
Needless to say, Shenzhen was already a very high-tech place to begin with in 2015, and now it's the heart of all these new and fancy tech pioneer companies coming about. - Taipei
WW3 tore this apart and made it into a military stronghold. it's part of Taiwan, a country who unfortunately got into the crossfire. - Chengdu (also known as Sanctum?)
Pushing more towards the classic oriental flavor than a towering city, Chengdu is considered the "happy place" of China. Left relatively untouched by WW3 and natural disasters, Chengdu has put in place certain procedures and laws to maintain a certain population and minimize growth. It's also got quite a few gardens and other things to try and make it feel more homey.
India
Japan
List of populous cities
Key cities and regions:- Tokyo
Much of Tokyo has expanded underground now, it's a very vertical city more or less, some of the buildings spanning underneath the earth too. As such it's one of the best places in the world for criminals to hide. - Hiroshima
- Yokohama
- Nagasaki
- Ichihara
Malaysia
Key cities and regions:- Singapore
As of right now, there is only one city of importance here, and that's Singapore. Singapore in the year 2077 is pretty much a hellhole. It's terrible. In fact, it's arguably the worst place to be in the entire world, and that's saying something. We're talking midnight raids, taking women and children, executing innocent people, the whole works. It's a tyranny and practically an anarchy at the same time, but of course people want to keep you there, so enjoy your stay!
These might make a cameo.
Thailand
Cambodia
Indonesia
Korea (includes South and North)
Europe
Russia / East Europe
The thing about Russia is that while it grew in population and continues to grow, much of the landmass of Siberia is still... well... unpopulated. I was debating things like climate change melting it back and leading to more landmass, but at the same time... why not the opposite? What if Siberia actually grew outwards, forcing much of the Asian continent into colder climate? Siberia itself can remain an expansive region with... oh, I don't know, hidden bases and things of that nature... but it still remains the tundra it always was.
List of populous cities
Key cities and regions:- Moscow
Where would Russia be without Moscow, the capital and most populated city. The population of Moscow is higher than all of the other cities in Russia combined. It's the central point for the whole ordeal. - Saint Petersburg
Saint Petersburg follows up as the second most populated. In comparison to Moscow, Saint Petersburg is not a sprawling city. It was a target of a weapons attack during WW3 and a lot of the structures were torn apart. For a while, it looked like a literal warzone. Now that much of it has been repaired, it somehow manages to keep a lot of the old architecture, but many of the buildings have been added onto with entirely new structures made of metal and carbon. Looking at buildings such as the Trinity Cathedral almost reflects the rest of the world, half machine and half earthen, in its own twisted way.
West Europe / the UK
Just so you're aware, the UK and Europe are the same thing now, they're just called Europe. The UK is no longer independent and just goes by Great Britain. That's why these will be lumped together into one piece.

Chapter 5 - Organizations
“Do you remember, Abelard... Once I told you that ecstasy was better than being God?"
"I remember."
"I was wrong, darling. Being God is better.”
― Bruce Sterling, Schismatrix Plus
This is where we can put all those nasty mean organizations that are around nowadays. As suggested, the world is Megacapitalist now, but instead of developing into Communism as it should, it seems to be staying that way.
There are many different groups and organizations in Terra 2077 and the potential for new ones is without limits. Each of them have their own category, which assigns to them more or less their status in the world. Here's the categories come up with so far:- Criminal
- Enforcement
- Anarchic
- Religious
- Militia
- Occult
- Academic
-
Chapter 6 - Paranormal

Conclusion
“The future is unwritten. there are best case scenarios. There are worst-case scenarios. World-changing marvels to us are only wallpaper to our children.”
― Bruce Sterling

Did you know?
Ever since its creation in the late 1960s, the Internet has expanded dramatically. Originally a militaristic tool to keep in contact with deployed forces, it has become an important staple of society. The addition of social networks such as Facebook(2004) has transformed it into a veritable sea of communication from person to person. Now that everything is interconnected, there is almost nowhere you can't go and nothing you can't find.
