Setting Overview
A large, thriving trade city and seaport of lush hills and great walls, a not-quite-utopian melting pot of primarily 'monster' culture: here those called beasts and demons by the outside world live together perhaps not in perfect harmony, but arguably as civilly as any race of man and currently more technologically inclined. A true queen of cities in a time of great prosperity and relative stability.
It is a city of many thousands, constantly thrumming with the din of busy voices, filled with the colors and movement of packed crowds and yelling merchants as the shadows of flying citizenry roll over the rooftops and the ships creak in the harbors; a sky and sea just as busy as the surface levels of the city - and those below.
The city is named for the goddess Trivia (a three-headed chimera with the parts of cat, dog, and horse - a monstrous version of our Roman deity) and is the capital of the Tauric Empire - the sprawling merchant city covers a hook of land where great strait meets small seas on both sides.
Notes:
- It was long ago populated by an ancient race long since lost to the ages - their cities have long crumbled and left little behind to tell who they were, buried underneath the buildings of those who dwell in the sun.

The Western Empire
There are monster colonies scattered all over these extended lands. However, some have seen trouble of late as the western kingdoms of man have begun to show signs of greater unification, gradually swelling in strength as they hone their arcane arts.
Their original capital was once in the west, when the empire lands extended to as far as the western ocean. The empire extends somewhat into the west still, including the Sea of Kall, but a once extensive territory was overrun hundreds of years ago, in large part captured by bands of men coming from what seemed like every direction - men and beast folk wielding unfamiliar magic and pledged to devout leaders proclaiming the will of bloodthirsty gods.
The monster people have since retreated into what they consider to be closer to their ancestral lands. The remaining realms of the taur still extend in all directions - across the islands and far into the southwest (touching on lands across the monstrous sea), all around the savage sea to the north, and deep enough into the east and southeast to have firm control over trade routes. It roughly covers what is modern day Turkey.
The major troublesome people are based on the goths, who are expanding their territories in the west aggressively, taking over other peoples with determined and steady pace. They are said to be lead by an immortal sorcerer king who corrupts all he touches. Even the far Gaelic people, who the monster empire never learned much about before being driven out of the west, have been conquered by this empire in the past hundred years. They and other Celtic peoples are among the primary being used as warriors on the forefronts.

Calendar
The year is 1953 a.u.c. or MCMLIII. "Year One" is whenever the equivalent to the city of Rome was founded, the first city of the monster empire. The Empire itself has existed nearly 1300 years.
While functionally the calendar is very similar to the modern Gregorian, names and dates are a little different and follow Latin traditions. You don't have to use this, but it's here for flavor if you want to!
