  • Local Languages

    The official local dialect is Latin, followed by Greek; however, the languages spoken here are many and diverse, and the next most common include Punic, Coptic, Aramaic, Syriac, Armenian, Old French, etc. You will certainly get more far flung languages, but the more distant the culture they come from, the more uncommon they'll be.

    Germanic languages like 'English' which is often used as "common" in most roleplay as that's what we're translating to, is not in fact 'common' and is viewed with suspicion as a barbarian language.

    Latin and Greek is 'common' here!

    In a world of diplomatic arrangements and enterprising merchants, the subjects of medicine, mathematics, philosophy, and law are beloved and of growing importance.

    In this world there were less restrictions in regards to exploring cadavers and medical techniques using scientific methods and many discoveries have come 'earlier', perhaps due to the existence of shifters, cultural interests in body alteration, and functional alchemy - the latter of which is being embraced and supported by the current establishment, a way to immerse oneself in the knowledge of the gods. In a landscape of materials and shared knowledge, innovation and experimentation in the arts is in a fervor.

    In general the citizens of the empire are highly educated - schooling is widely available and encouraged for both men and women. You should expect your average citizen to read and write on a basic level. There is not much discriminatory discrepancy to be found among the sexes here either; monster cultures typically have not formed the gender and sex based social divisions of men and in kind, attitude towards diverse identity and presentation is broadly accepted, even celebrated and encouraged.
