The monarchy or sovereignty is more than a ruling position - it requires more than brute strength and the ability to lead an army at the helm, but also intellect and wisdom, a mind for strategy and a understanding of diplomacy - one must look over and guide their people, making vital decisions for the army and the law, maintaining relationships and deals with neighboring and even distant cultures and kingdoms.

There is no rule by noble blood here, however - the taur follow a ritualistic rule of succession that ignores creed and blood for the honor of contest and sport. It is only the smartest, bravest, strongest, and wisest who can succeed the Olympic-style games every few years and challenge the current lord or lady to their crown. It is unknown what happens in the secondary series of challenges held inside the main temple - no sovereign has shared this great secret and the loser is never seen again.

    The Great Palace

The main palace is set on top of a grand hill overlooking the crook of land dividing sea and inlet. It is surrounded by its own set of inner-city walls and is protected by sprawling fields that include gardens, training grounds, ponds, and the royal orchards. It lays between the Hippodrome and Temple of Trivia.

The palace is host to a zoo sporting gifts from other kingdoms - elephants, lions, leopards, ostriches, giraffes, and even a mated pair of roc.
