Evren didn't tell anybody she was here.

It might have been out of fear - of alienation, perhaps, or of the responsibility of such a move - or it might have been mere uncertainty, but it was with an abrupt and uncharacteristic humility she'd slunk away from business underground and made her way to the cavern her little elf enchanter had created for her.

The great red snake of a dragon was distinctly round about the belly and base of her tail, neat curving bulges sitting one after another in single file. It was a regular sight to those who'd seen her wear this natural form as of late, and would not have invited much comment - were it not for the shudder, one of many, that rippled through her stomach, only to be shaken out tersely through her tail-tip.

She shuffled onto the warm sands, aimlessly kicked piles aside with a surly huff, and scraped restlessly at the ground, carving out a little depression in the sand.

It was here Evren settled down with a growl in a loose coil, entirely alone, fins upright and quivering, mouth open and upturned in a pantomime smile, a strained pant.

And it would be a very long time before she'd get up, again.

--

Her prize, large, round and speckled with mottled creamy greens, was stolen back from the butcher without much incident, and it was considerably later in the evening when she'd returned to the inner sanctum to gently deposit it into the warm sands.

She'd carefully rolled the thing with her snout through the sands until it came to rest, bumping gently against the hardening shells of two handsomely purple and black speckled eggs.

With a whisper of movement and a low, rumbling purr, Evren nosed and pushed sand carefully around the bases of each. And then stepped back, panting once more. She settled down, rolled her shoulders, tucked her paws beneath herself, rested her chin on the sands, and curled her tail protectively around the day's hard work.

Worry and trepidation had long since made a home in the pit of her stomach, and it never got easier with every worrisome small clutch.

Still, despite the persistent twist in her gut, she chose this time not to stifle the little glimmer of pride she'd felt as she stared at the three little siblings on the sands.
