I'm around 200-210 hours into mh4u, split between the great sword and sns (although it's been a while since I've used sns).
Do any of you guys use the switch axe? I have messed around with it a little bit, and love you can DPS a downed monster with the overhead slash into the hack N slash combo but I don't know if I want to pour umpteen million hours into picking up another weapon. If anyone here uses it or mains the swagaxe, what are your thoughts?
Part of wanting to learn it is extending the life of mh4u before importing mhx or waiting for mhxg / mhxu. I don't have a TV, console other than my 3ds, or Internet at my house anymore, so besides work monster hunter and pokemon are my main sources of fun lately - but it gets really tiring slogging through the gathering hall without any friends.

I do tend to try and use the Switch Axe from time to time. I'm not the greatest at it, but I like how how varied it makes combat feel. Not to mention how SICK the damage is once you charge that fucker up! I recommend it! It's a lot of fun!
I've also got me a 3DS so whenever you feel like hunting some monsters, just let me know!

I used the Switch Axe alongside the Charge Blade in MH4U due to some story elements I wrote into Valian's profile. Personally, I'm not really a fan of how slow it feels, but the variants between what is essentially a Great Sword and the axe forms is pretty neat for doing damage.
Dodging is something to get used to, though. Personally. Though that sentiment is coming from someone that started playing Monster Hunter with the Dual Blades as someone who favours general DPS and quick, light on your feet dodging and movements. Demon Mode provides all of that for me.

I'm semi-using it on my Gunner file for when I need a blade, but I still need to learn it properly. I love its power, but I'm more of a maneuverability player myself. *eyeballs SnS*
Many thanks for the replies y'all. I think I'll learn it just to become a better hunter and player, I'm overly dependent on guarding to get me out of a tough spot, and am waaay too spoiled by Steve's greatsword.
I need to get back into sns, I miss applying statuses like a machine. I could hack monoblos to death in about 10 minutes or so when I was in the groove haha.
