  • Sirens

    Also known as vampires.
    Population: 26 million
    Average lifespan: 292 years

Sirens have one of the lowest global populations among the sentient species, and are commonly referred to by the human-invented word "vampire." Sirens, despite popular literature, are far from an infection or wrath of some deity. Sirens reproduce sexually, though they can only do so with other Sirens, not to say intercourse itself is so limited. Sirens ability to remain awake depends entirely on energy exerted between feeding. Oversaturated vampires that undergo a lot of combat very quickly might only stay awake for an hour or two once the effects start to diminish. Sirens that are moderately replenished and don't engage in combat can stay awake for as much as 100 straight hours. Once they become tired, sleep is inevitable. There's no such thing as "second wind" to a Siren.

The Sirens had the most difficult time adjusting to the Unity Renaissance, as before then they were not prominent or even noticeable in society, despite existing there rather regularly. Sirens were not regarded in a negative light, but there was some fear and hesitation when meeting one.

Sirens exist off of blood. While the quality and intensity of effect of different kinds of blood varies, even the blood of a small fish would suffice to keep a Siren from death in desperate times. Generally speaking, the "quality of blood" is as follows:
    Human
    Kejek
    Jek
    Sprig
    Mammals

In small quantities, a Siren could survive easily on human blood. Generally, Sirens only must feed half a pint of blood to remain sated for 2-4 days. Sirens have three stages of being in relation to blood saturation.

    ((Percentages are approxiamate))

Famine (< 10% saturation) - Human or subhuman strength. Pheromone and hormone production tripled. Physically violent and periodically sexually aggressive (primarily females). Using a combination of pheromones and sonic manipulation, the Siren's Song becomes an option. This ability allows the voice and pheromones to lure prey directly to them. Strong willed or individuals in a high-strung emotional state (rage or depression) are unlikely to let it affect them. Injuries in this state regenerate at human levels.

Sated (10%-80% saturation) - Above human strength, speed, and agility. Below human thinking and reaction time (less time is good, remember). Rational and calm in normal conditions. Lower levels of Sated may still bring about bouts of hunger. Pheromone and hormones levels stablized. No Siren Song nor psychic power is available in this state.

Oversaturated (>80% saturation) - Incredible strength and speed. Hormone levels increased. Thought process and reaction time increased to monumental levels. Capable of psychic ability, determined by various genetic traits. Rational, though likely violent. This stage only lasts for 20 minutes to an hour, depending on how much blood was consumed. Too much blood in the Siren digestive system and cause stress or severe hemmorhaging. Regenerative abilities accelerate depending on severity of injury.

Addiction: It is completely possible for a Siren to become addicted to a certain type of blood, or to be addicted to the state of oversaturation. Though not common, oversaturation addicts are considered dangerous, and special task forces are sent to either drain blood through injury and detain, or kill known addicts.
  • Jek

    Also known as Anthros
    Pop. 940 million
    Avg. Lifespan: 130 years

The Jek are a primarily humanoid mammalian race that often physically resemble other nonsentient animals within the world. Despite such a varied appearance, Adult Jek are commonly anywhere from six to nine feet tall, and can weigh anywhere from 180 lbs. to 350 lbs, with gender not being a normal genetic factor in size. It is not possible to mate with other species, though sexual actions are an option.

The Jek originated along primarily in what are previously known as Canada, Alaska, Russia, and northern China. Originally a tribal species, they grew into a mercenary force in the 1800s and early 1900s, and from there evolved socially towards a much more unified, less greedy form of moral ambiguity. They are often considered nomads, since small groups of Jek are a frequent sight on roadsides and natural campgrounds. There has never been a country formed purely from Jek, and they prefer it that way.

The Jek, being so large, often find human-sized weapons to be too small to use properly. For this reason, a few small Jek-owned weapons manufacturers still operate independently from the mega-corporations, giving the Jek access to large amounts of handheld firepower. What would be a mounted turret for a human could be small arms for a Jek. It's not uncommon for Jek travelers to carry large but concealable weapons.

Renowned for refined senses and great agility and strength, they are heavily desired as shock troopers, though they rarely take the positions between fits of isolationism. A large Jek is the only being that can take on an oversaturated vampire in a one-on-one fight.
  • Kejek

    Known as Half-Anthros
    Pop. 1.7 billion
    Avg. Lifespan: 78 years

The Kejek are a humanoid mammalian race that are the closest to human in appearance, but are generally given a seemingly random assortment of Jek traits, such as:

    Fur
    Clawed fingers
    Heightened senses of any kind
    Major and minor complexion variations
    Tails
    Ears

It's not known where or when the Kejek originated, but records indicate that some of the first social Kejek tribes appeared sometime in 500 B.C. in what became New Zealand. They most closely adhere to human society in their culture, and there have been a few Kejek-central countries.

Kejek graced with heightened senses often find themselves to be excellent marksmen (eyesight, reacion time), detectives and police (eyesight, hearing, smell, reaction time), and chefs (smell, taste), among many others. Controversy concerning hiring practices between Kejek and humans center around fact that humans run the companies, more often that not, yet still hire Kejek over humans based on abilities described above. Hilariously, many Kejek also decry this practice, yet rarely hesitate to take advantage of it.

Many Kejek science advancements revolve around protection, nonlethal weapons, and research into powered exoskeletons, and culinary technology.

Curiously, Kejek can conceive children from both Jek and humans, along with other Kejek. It's thought that early in Kejek existence, living conditions were less than ideal, and so evolution gave rise to the remarkable trait of multi-species reproduction.
  • Humans

    Population: 4.8 billion
    Average lifespan: 89 years

Humans, the most populous social and sentient species on Earth, are currently the most common corporate leaders and researchers. While many humans are trained for combat, focus is placed on nonhumans for corporate military due to the innate abilities other races have. While this has lead to some controversy, it has never become a full, blown-out civilian issue.

Humans are capable of psychic ability, but the individuals with said ability typically go insane or suffer from negative side affects from the focus required to achieve a psychic state powerful enough to be practical. The ratio of psychic potentials to nonpsychic humans is 1:1250

It is possible to train a psychic to use his powers at will, though very few have made it to that point.
  • Sprig

Also known as Leafers, or Elves
    Population: 1.4 billion
    Average lifespan: 180 years

The Sprig are a humanoid species with very distinguishing facial features and limb functions, one of the most immediately obvious being their three-fingered hands. The Sprig are generally human sized, if a little taller on average. Their adult average heights range from 5'9 to 6'6". Weights range from 148 lbs. to 240 lbs.

Sprig originated generally along the equator, in deserts and jungles, where nature is in its most extreme state. Over time, they developed an intimate connection with the earth and living beings in general, and they worshiped that connection in early time. Over many centuries, they perfected their forms of combat, namely brutal close-combat arts and ranged weaponry. They were the first to develop a species-centric combat art, and have a psychic connection with nature itself.

In modern times, the stiff family-oriented species that worshiped the earth now exist in more lax societies. Of all species, they have the most pure-Sprig communities, but are not above welcoming guests, travelers, and business associates. Their connection with nature has waned significantly, but many Sprig still practice their arts, using that connection for deeds both noble and nefarious. The ability to see what the earth and its inhabitants see over large distances have made them magnificent scouts and detectors, and they are commonly employed to protect high-value men and women of all species from assassinations and kidnapping.

A subspecies of the Sprig are the Melophites, dark skinned Sprig that have natural born access to powerful psychic abilities and elemental magic. In old times, they have experienced both enormous wealth and leadership, and also survived the harshest exiles and purges. Nowadays they are few in number and less inherently skilled than before. This drop in skill does not make them any less dangerous in modern times.
  • Eos

    Sea dwelling semi-humanoid.
Population: Unknown. Estimates suggest anywhere from 10 thousand to 10 million.
    Average Lifespan: 29 years

Born and raised in the water, generally with about a kilometer from shorelines, Eos are semi-humanoid sea inhabitants. While they do have an internal skeletal structure, it is more flexible and fragile than a human skeleton. Very striking in appearance, the Eos most closely resemble the octopus. No extended contact has been made with the Eos, and they generally destroy any sub - manned or unmanned - before any kind of audio or video can be recorded.

That said, they are not a warlike species, and remain within their domains, and will hunt for food on a regular basis. They are known to use improvised traps and their tentacles to catch prey.

Being underwater, building materials are not many. About 40,000 ago, this remedied itself in the form of a mutation, giving them the ability to secrrete adhesive liquid that can solidify itself underwater in less than a minute. Given enough time, shelter can be built with this adhesive alone. They've been known to use sunken ships, space junk, and the remains of the subs that they've destroyed to fashion durable housing out of.

About 15,000 years ago, the Eos began to experiment with leaving the water, and have since adapted to have stronger, air-capable lungs and have more sturdy skeletons capable of supporting themselves on land. While sightings of Eos are not often, and recorded sightings even fewer, they do occasionally arrive on land to find pieces of wood or metal for housing. In some land-based communities, many residents have taken to leaving parts of decommissioned cars and piles of water-treated wood on beaches for Eos to take. Its possible that Eos are responsible for better fishing on the same days that they take supplies underwater. There seems to be a mutual understanding between Eos and land species, and so in modern times very few attempts are made to contact them in person.

It is almost entirely certain that Eos cannot survive for long periods outside of the water, due to the more intense effect of gravity and the intensity of the sun. It's most likely that surface-hunting Eos are trained specifically for that task.

It is unknown to what extent Eos have adapted technology into their lifestyles, and its entirely possible that they have little technology at all.

It is unknown how Eos communicate.
