Foreigners.
Now that the 'Frontier' has discovered Moe Atua and marked her in the ship's maps they make regular visits. While Captain Wallford would like to keep the Island her secret others will find out or follow. This has brought not only representatives of Kasuria but also curious furres looking for various things or escapes. New items that have not graced the market in over a decade return and the desire to have old trade items replaced with new is strong.
Kasurian Officials
These come in two basic forms, Knights and Officials. The first are obvious with foreign crests, armor and weapons looking like mobile statues or oddly costumed performers. Knights are able to act on their own and dispense the King's Justice though they are mainly intended to protect their counterparts. Officials are usually well-dressed, sometimes armored and armed furres from the mainland also armed with ambition. Anyfurre assigned to this tiny island with little resources will need to make a name for themselves in order to escape this land of savages. On the other paw, rum and pretty native furres? Maybe it's not so bad a posting after all...
Travelers/Immigrants
There are plenty of reasons for a furre to want to end up in Moe Atua ranging from a tropical vacation to setting up a trade. The Islanders may look like a good mark, or a perfect escape from the oppressive grip of Kasurian rule. There is money to be made, rum to be drunk, and experiences to be had to draw the common furre.
Merchants/Resource Workers
These beings are looking either to make money at the market for exchanging finished goods, or looking to take resources from the Island to be sold elsewhere. Tropical woods, pieces of coral, colorful sea-life and island critters, exotic herbs and spices, the list goes on. Certain items as simple as washboards, irons, metal sewing needles and the like are near-impossible to get on the Island and would be high-interest items to the natives.
Explorers/Treasure Hunters
Small Islands in the tropics are sometimes a magnet for lost riches stories. Be it a treasure ship missing during a storm to hidden stashes under the sands. New species of flora and fauna could be found then applied to the fields of experimental alchemy or magery. There is even rumor that Moe Atua may have a cave system underneath it...
Kasurian Jobs
Dockfurre: There is a hope among the Kasurian representatives that they can procure their own private dock and charge to use it. The application doesn't mention that there currently isn't a private dock on the Island.
Merchant Representative: This job is to administer (read tax), encourage business relations, and oversee goods exchange (read tax again) for the Kasurian interest on Moe Atua.
Bodyguards: Furres are needed to provide protection to visiting and residing Kasurians. While the natives are not openly hostile they are intimidating to some and Primes know what will make them angry. We must keep our citizens safe.
Cartographer and Explorer Team: At least two, possibly up to four furres are needed for the mapping and surveying of the Island. The ability to measure and make accurate maps is an absolute requirement. The skills to survive on rations and off of the land as well as some knowledge of the Island is a must. One who is familiar with finding deposits of metals, gems, or usable resources in the Urrth would be helpful. Use of a small boat will also be required as the reef must me mapped as well.
Accountant: A scribe who is skilled with numbers and equations is required to make a survey of the Island's business. Discretion is required and time will be allowed for the full reporting of the Island's commerce and trade which will need to be equated to a coin value. -
Working for Kasuria.
Kasurian jobs can only be given by a Kasurian representative or possibly a Knight (or admin in the absence of the above).
When you're working for the Kasurians you are and are not working for the King, but you definitely are working for your boss. I'll explain:
[*] You are a representative of the King and the furres of the Kasurian Kingdom in the sense that you have the 'right' to Kasurian Justice and expectation of protection from other Kasurians. The practicalities of invoking protection as an employee or citizen of Kasuria on an Island full of tribals in the ocean could go either way.
[*] Your direct employer's orders supersede anything that comes from the mainland in the sense that your direct employer can fire you while anything from the mainland takes days. The exact 'interests' in Moe Atua professionally will vary depending on what your employer is trying to do. Though that doesn't mean that an accomplishment couldn't go above your employer's head getting you a field promotion...
The main reason for Kasuria to try and plant a flag on Moe Atua is to keep it out of the paws of others as well as hopes of strategic value or resources. Even if the only value turns out that it has nice enough beaches and fishing to draw nobles there during the winters then the King will try to take it.
Colonial Conquest: The model for 'civilizing' new territories does not contain suggested violence except as a last resort and to definitely be prepared for it. Standard first step is to sell modern tools and minor luxury items, tell these savages about the Primes, offer to build them a temple. Give them some books and teach them how to read, these poor furres. Once they're wearing the right clothes, saying the right prayers, paying the right taxes, and subjugated to the lowest labor positions then Moe Atua will be properly civilized.
