Callista didn't delay in making time to meet with Mercy and see if she could figure out what to do about the girl's newfound dogma. Instead of summoning her like a servant, the princess took made her way to the squire's room to meet with her there. She also took the time to change into one of her more plain kalasiris without much ornamentation so that she would appear less imposing and only took May as an escort, hoping that the other girl might help a bit. Quietly she knocked on the door and waited patiently.
Mercy opened up the door to the plain room. Her eyes turned to the size of dish-plates upon seeing the princess, frozen for a moment. A livid bruise on the side of her face and black eye turning to the sickly shades of yellowish green from healing marring her face, before it was hidden as show bowed low.
Your royal highness, Goddess that walks upon the earth. I am not worthy to be graced by your presence.

Callista’s brow furrowed upon seeing the bruising on Mercy’s face. ”Good afternoon, Mercy. If you have a moment, I would like to speak to you.” Her piety was more than a little unsettling and it made her feel more of a sham than blessed and regal. ”I must insist that you stop referring to myself and the others as Gods. It is an insult to the Unconquered Sun who has bestowed his light on us. He is the god, not us. We are merely his heralds. Secondly, I would request that you resume your training and your duties as you had before. You were worthy before and you are still worthy. It is a great disservice to us to deny us your presence and continue this notion that you must behave differently. May I ask what happened to your face?”
Mercy nodded her head Yes’m….ken I speak plainly? and looked back up and waited to see Callista’s gentle face nod the affirmative. s’just… M’Lady. You’re so pretty, en graceful, en kind. Once I dreamed only of becoming a knight. To prove myself worthy to serve the Mother in my Brother’s eyes. It was all I lived for, you see. He, he’s good. Really good. En makes me better for it. Then I met you en I thought I could have a chance to become something…something really grand. For my whole life I thought I had to put away being a girl if I wanted to compete with the men, but you let me know that if I was like my Brother- really like him in spirit, but only me. A knight lady, though he’s not a lady…. Then I could maybe – if I tried my very best, I could not only be something my Brother would be proud of, but that would be worth of serving you. Only I was fool enough to get knocked out and not be there when either of you truly had need of me. En now you’re she waved her hands in a grand gesture, and her shoulders slumped I didn think it would be possible but you’re even more beautiful and graceful then ever, en how am I ever going to be able to live up to be worthy of being your handmaiden?
Can you forgive me for failing you?
As for the eye, I… I was going to leave, go back to An-Tir for failing Brother Donovan. He told me I could only go if I was released, and I would only be released if I was knighted. So I fought him to prove that I was ready….and I’m not yet.

Callista wished that the girl would eventually learn that she could always speak to her plainly, but this was a task needing to be taken one step at a time. ”Mercy, you may have fallen down but you stood back up to fight alongside us when called. That is important too. There is nothing to forgive, but I will give you forgiveness anyway so long as you remain with us. I am still in need of those who would help protect me from unseen forces, there were always be those who mean me harm. Perhaps I shall make my own version of a Deathguard, just all women and I think you would be a fine candidate for such a job," she smiled, a touch amused a the thought of May leading her own warriors. It really wasn't a bad idea and she didn't know why she hadn't thought of it before.
"I am not perfect, no matter what gifts the Unconquered Sun bestowed upon us and there is much I have to learn too. It would make me happy to see you resume your duties to Donovan and become the knight you destined to be.” She smiled but she did wonder if it had been necessary for Donovan to be so heavy handed when Mercy had challenged him. Callista supposed a lesson was needing to be taught but perhaps his caring for the girl had clouded his judgement when applying it. ”You will be ready someday, please promise me you will stay and finish your training.”

M'Lady it is hard for me to think of you has having any flaw. Brother Donovan is very critical of people, not because he's mean, but because he's always looking to improve himself and those around him. And I never heard him say anything about you. she rambled.
I will stay. M'Lady
