“For the Angel of Death spread his wings on the blast,
And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed;
And the eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly and chill,
And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!”
― George Gordon Byron

A strange looking man with features that could cause one to freak upon first sight of him. The first thing that stands out are his strange, vaguely moth like wings and his deep, glowing red eyes. His outfit generally consists of a ragged pair of brown sweat pants, an overly large shirt that reached down below his knees, and a golden bandanna. He is a tall, lanky individual that towers over most people and has the strength to back it up. Many scars dot the man's body, most look like they were done by a knife of some sort while others look like they were medically induced. On his face, once you get passed the red eyes, you can see a broken, depressed look.
The moth hybrid is a depressed, broken, timid individual with hatred and anger to spare. He has a deep, unwavering hatred towards humanity; specifically doctors and scientists. He has an immense anger towards the very same individuals, seeing as it was a scientist and a doctor that put him into that wretched form and left in that wretched life to suffer for an eternity. He is afraid of being discovered by humans out of fear of being killed by the very people, yet that hasn't stopped him from visiting human settlements on occasion.
With this form, the man is granted a few abilities to compensate for the flaws that come along with it. Thanks to his size, he is granted high strength and high stamina, but his speed is lowered in compensation. His wings grant him the ability to fly at high speeds, but it is fairly difficult to maneuver. He gains strength from light sources, whether they're natural or otherwise. If there is too little light, Alain will become weakened and most of his abilities will be weak or fail altogether. His eyes grant him strong night vision and allows him to see in almost total darkness, however too much light is detrimental as it can cause him to go temporarily blind. A large amount of water can cause his wings to become heavy, thus becoming impossible for him to fly. To avoid this, Alain rarely comes out of hiding when it rains.
Strangely enough, the whole experiment had given Alain capabilities to use fire in certain aspects. He rarely uses it for anything besides intimidation purposes. He can create fireballs and use them for various purposes, though he generally just uses it to ward away visitors.
Born to a family of farmers in Salem, Massachusetts in the early 1600s, though he was raised off in a secret laboratory just a few miles from the town. Unlike what you're thinking, the young man was not raised by his parents or even a relative of his own, but rather by some strange scientist who simply went by the name of Nelson. This scientist raised the child like Alain was his own flesh and blood. During the first few years of Alain's life, it was happy and loving. Nelson truly acted like a father and he truly seemed to care for the young boy. He gave Alain much love, a good, but life. However, as the years passed by, Alain would soon realize this love and care was all just a ruse for the scientist to gain the boy's trust and so he could use him for his own personal gains.
After turning ten years old, Alain would be subjected to numerous and often painful experiments. Living so far from any civilized community made escape impractical and difficult, so Alain just lived with it. As the years went by, the experiments became progressively more subjective and painful. Nelson began trying to fuse Alain's DNA with that of another living organism. He subjected Alain to ten different tests, and only the tenth was successful...well, sort of anyways.
First, Nelson attempted to fuse him with a bear. The attempt failed and left Alain with a scar on his chest, he then tried a snake, an alligator, an eagle, a beaver, a duck, a dog, a raccoon, a squirrel, and lastly for reasons unknown, a moth. The first nine were failures, miserable failures that left Alain with deep, painful scars. The tenth however was more or less a success. The DNA was successfully crossed with the moth's, but the results weren't what Nelson had expected. Rather than Alain morphing into a gigantic moth, Alain retained his human appearance, but gained a large pair of wings and glowing red eyes. The first..and last things Nelson muttered was; "The Angel of Death has finally arrived...", soon his blood splattered about his lab and the mysterious creation had fled, Alain was nowhere to be seen..
Strangely enough, these experiments seemed to have given Alain an immensely long lifespan, as after even three hundred years, the man had not aged a day over twenty. The moth hybrid has hidden himself within the woods of Massachusetts, away from human civilization. However, Alain has an insatiable curiosity and has occasionally traveled through the skies of the present day Salem.
Notably, the moth has been reportedly spotted just days before disaster struck. He was spotted just days before the collapse of the Silver Bridge near Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Other disasters occurred just days after other sightings of the man, some theorists include him as one of the causes of the 1692 Salem Witch Trials, the American Civil War, World War I and II, among many natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods, and tornadoes. His frequent appearance around places where disasters occur just days after his sightings has linked him with Satan, some people nicknaming him the Angel of Death for these appearances. Now, his sightings are feared and people are out for his head because of these rumors.
Now, the Mothman remains in hiding, having been out of sight since the election of President Bill Clinton in the early 1990s, though some have theorized that he lives near Salem, though no one has returned to tell the tale in one piece. Alain is afraid and nervous to find out what people might do to him if they caught him. He wishes to one day find someone that could accept him for the freak of nature he is and not for the demon the humans have been labeling him as, however his fear and hatred for humans has made it difficult.
