A tall, heavy framed man that towers over many people. He can often be seen wearing a silver tank top, long black pants, and a rusty red colored jacket. His eyes are a deep, reddish-brown color and his hair is a silvery-blond that shines under the sun. He wears a pair of thick, silver glasses. He'll often be seen with his signature straw hat, he received it from his beloved Polka, so he holds it near and dear to his heart. Tempo wears a double edged broadsword on his side and a golden shield on his back, both weapons he's capable of using with moderate proficiency. Due to years of living near Polka gave him a bit of knowledge in the medical field, which has translated to his signature Dark attacks, Mist and Healing Rain.
Tempo is a stoic, serious man that is quite blunt, honest, but kind. He is extremely loyal and sincere to a fault, but only to those he can trust. Once he finds someone he can trust, he will protect them with his life and often becomes worried or nervous if they become harmed. He has a deep infatuation for the floral powder merchant known as Polka and has sworn to protect her, no matter the cost. Despite generally being rather calm, he's been known to fly into fits of rage if harm is brought to Polka. While Tempo has a good heart, his loyalty can be swayed if his beloved comes into harms way.
In comparison to the rest of the party, Tempo has high attack, defense, and HP. He could be considered be a more defensive version of Jazz, though his speed is the lowest among them. He generally deals heavy damage early on while allowing his allies to finish them off. Most of his specials aid him in dealing heavy damage, but others heal his allies and gives them resistance to damage and status ailments. Thanks to his high HP and defense, he can take numerous hits, but because of his low speed, he cannot deal nearly as many back towards his opponent. Most of his attacks involve ice and snow.
Ice Wrath
With this attack, Tempo slashes twice, causing heavy damage with a chance to slow the opponent down. It's a basic, but useful attack. He uses it whenever he needs a finisher.
Ice Spike
One of Tempo's few long ranged attacks. It is fast, but weak in comparison to his other attacks. He often uses it if he cannot reach an opponent or if he just needs a quick attack.
Ice Wall
A defensive maneuver with his shield. He raises a wall of ice in front of him and any adjacent allies, it lowers the damage output of incoming attacks and decreases the chances of an ally being afflicted with a status ailment.
Freezing Rain
A slow, but powerful attack. Raising his shield, Tempo creates a downpour of heavy rain and sleet, causing damage to all opponents while potentially slowing them down and weakening fire based enemies.
Mist
A healing mist is released around Tempo. Any ally within the cloud recovers 50% of their HP.
Healing Rain
Similar to Mist, but it covers a much larger area while healing only 25% of their HP.
Ice Bolt
A freezing lightning bolt is dropped on the opponent, it causes major damage while having a strong chance to knock opponents over.
Tsunami
Perhaps his most devastating attack. Tempo creates a wave of water that swamps all enemies in his vicinity, knocking them over while causing heavy damage.
The young warrior was born and raised in Tenuto Village to his mother, Soprano and his father, Bass. He was raised around a family of floral powder merchants, his parents were close to the mother of the neighboring family. Because of the relationships between the parents, Tempo was able to grow close to their daughter, Polka. He was one of the first to find out about the young girl's magic disease. The revelation of the news struck Tempo deep within his heart, as he'd begun to develop a sort of childish crush, this grief was only strengthened upon seeing how Ritardando's citizens rejected the young Polka because of it. In response to all of this, the young man began training in the art of combat alongside his father, mastering the sword and shield. He claims he's training in order to better himself, but in reality he's training to protect Polka, the very object of his affection. From the moment he laid eyes on Polka, his never ending infatuation for the girl continued to grow to immense levels, but he's never had much luck in revealing these feelings towards her.
Once he turned sixteen, he decided he'd join Polka in her journey away Tenuto. The now fourteen year old Polka had ambitions to help people as much a she could before her short life ended, she didn't care what people thought of her. Knowing this heartfelt ambitions held by Polka could likely get her into some unnecessary danger, Tempo figured it'd be a good idea to come along with her, taking on a bodyguard like role for her. After leaving Tenuto, Tempo and Polka met up with the thieves from Ritardando, Allegretto and Beat. Upon realizing they both had intentions of lowering the taxes on floral powders. If they managed to succeed in lowering the taxes, at least Polka's livelihood would be saved. With that in mind, the group headed off towards Forte. Upon setting off to the big city, Tempo and his newfound friends would find that they were walking straight into a trap. As they headed for Forte Castle, they were ambushed by Tuba and his men, believing this group of travelers to be apart of the rebel group, Andantino. While the group was successful in defeating Tuba, they were still apprehended and thrown into a dungeon. Dissatisfied with the outcome of the battle, the group began searching for an escape route. With much vigilance from the group, they were able to successfully find a way out of the Forte Dungeon and unexpectedly ran into the very rebel group that the old guard had mistaken them for.
After Allegretto explained the rebel leader, Jazz, about their current situation, the two groups joined forces. Jazz, Falsetto, and Claves joined Tempo and his allies for their journey out to Baroque in hopes of gaining the assistance of Prince Crescendo in their rebellion against the tyrant that is Count Waltz and in their goal to reduce the taxes on pretty much everything besides the controversial mineral powder. However, this time, the taxes were the least of their concern. They've discovered these mineral powders have rather strange effects on those who ingest them, the users become addicted to them and extremely dependent on them until they become mindless soldiers that only bend the knee towards Count Waltz. Upon coming to the realization of what these controversial powders did to their unfortunate users, their wish to overthrow Forte's rule only became stronger, especially for Polka. The young girl never wanted to see anyone suffer, especially in such a heinous way. Her life may not be long, but in her short life, she wants to make a change. Tempo has supported Polka in all of this, as he's also desired a more peaceful world and found it to be disgraceful, almost cowardly.
After escaping from the Forte Dungeon, the group began making their way back from whence they came, however Tuba made another appearance in hopes of impeding the group's progress. As such, he engaged the party in combat. Like before, the battle ended in the rebels favor. In a last ditch effort to please Count Waltz, Tuba caused the bridge to collapse, in turn causing the party to fall into the river below. While this effort result in only Tuba's death, it managed to separate the group. Polka, Beat, Salsa, and Frederic were rescued by Prince Crescendo and Princess Serenade in a chance encounter, while Tempo and the others ended up near a strange, poisonous forest. The young warrior nearly died of a panic attack once he realized Polka wasn't with them, the possibility of her being dead broke Tempo's heart into a million pieces, a sweeping depression overtook him. The only thing that prevented him from taking his own life was the slim chance that Polka was still alive. It was during this period of separation that Tempo was slowly able to piece together his words he wanted to use once he had gained the courage to confess to Polka.
It was thanks to Viola and Claves that he was able to even figure out the words he wanted to give his beloved Polka. However, this confession would have to wait until Tempo met up with his beloved again, though he had another internal battle to fight. Due to Polka's disease, she was likely to die soon. He wasn't sure what he'd do without her, he couldn't even imagine a life without her. As the days went by, Tempo's hope of reuniting with Polka slowly faded away, his spirits being unimaginably low following the death of Claves and disappearance of Falsetto adding to the many sorrows flowing through his heart. At this point, he wasn't even sure why he kept trudging through the cloudy days in his mind.
Luckily, the gods would smile down on Tempo as him and Polka, as well as the others, were reunited in Baroque. The smile on Polka's face was like a miracle cure for Tempo, as his gloom had seemingly disappeared the moment he saw his beloved. On that day, he confirmed his vow to defend Polka with every ounce of his breath, while also being able to confess his love to her. In heartwarming, tearful scene, Tempo and Polka embraced one another in a hug that seemed warm enough to thaw the freezing city of Baroque. Being able to confess to Polka helped the man regain his confidence and his stoic personality. Following the tearful confession, Tempo was back to the way he was before and began preparing for their march up to Mt. Rock, hoping to help convince Prince Crescendo from giving himself to Forte in an attempt at a peace treaty that would so obviously fail. He figured if Baroque's leader was no longer in his country, an invasion would be all the more likely and significantly easier.
While Tempo and the group were able to catch up to Baroque's foolish prince, they'd find themselves in a real bind. Count Waltz and his wing man, Legato, had intercepted the party in hopes of negotiating their own peace treaty. The wicked count had no interest in the prince, or in anyone within the party, except for Polka. She attracted the glowing agogos, an ingredient that would exponentially strengthen the mineral powders, so the count desired her. Initially, Polka declined, but her mind was soon swayed in the favor of Waltz after he threatened to kill her allies. After much reluctance, Polka decided it'd be best to go with Waltz. The decision from Polka had broke Tempo's heart yet again, though he figured she knew what she was doing. While the man was quite angry with Waltz's demands, he was going to comply with Polka. At least, that was his plan, however they were changed as Waltz physically knocked Polka out. Enraged, Tempo rushed at Waltz and hastily engaged him in combat. Jazz and Viola assisted Tempo in the ensuing battle while the other members took care of the legion of dragons that came along with the vile count.
Following the defeat of Count Waltz, his legionnaire, Legato, decided to drink the newly strengthened mineral powder, finding that it gave him a massive increase in his own strength. While his strength increased exponentially, he'd find that it'd robbed him of his real body and turned him into some monster, one of epic proportions. Using his newfound abilities, Legato opened a portal to some strange place dubbed the Elegy of the Moon. In an attempt to wrap up what they believed to be the final battle, Tempo and the group hastily followed behind the beast. The new world was strange, the dead walked among them, though it wasn't like one would expect. There were only souls, no actual people anywhere to be seen. It was a strange, unsettling, yet beautiful scene to behold. Remembering their mission at hand, the group carried on for the Noisy Dunes, only to be impeding by an impenetrable barrier.
Fortunately, with the help of the Elegy's elder, the group received access to the Xylophone Tower. The group quickly and cleanly cleared the trials and defeated the sentries that awaited them inside the tower. Upon completion, they headed for the Dunes once again. Once they arrived in their destination, they headed for the Double Reed Tower to clear another set of obstacles in hopes of defeating Legato. With much diligence from the party, they were successful in reaching the Ruined Body of Legato and ensued a climatic battle. It was will against will, good versus evil, and soul against soul in this alien world. After a long, painful battle, the group came out on top of the Ruined Body and left the tower victorious. However, their battles would not end there. While the vile count and his legionnaire had been eliminated, one threat remained. The strange man who claimed the world was nothing but a dream chose to engage them in a battle. Frederic claimed they were destroying a world he had made perfect as he awaited for his own death to take place.
This battle was almost heartbreaking for the group, as they'd considered Frederic a close friend and ally, so wailing on him almost seemed wrong. Tempo was able to forgo these conflicting feelings, seeing as Frederic's change of heart put Polka in great danger. The party engaged in one last, climatic battle that would most certainly determine their fates, and potentially the world's fate. After a long and tough battle, Frederic was defeated. As the man slowly faded away, he began questioning his own existence and whether or not what he claimed to be a dream was actually what he claimed. Following his defeat, the team relished in a short lived celebration as things began looking up for them.
However, Polka came to the realization that her fate was nothing more than to defeat and purge a great evil to their world with her death following soon after. After talking with an illusion of her mother, Polka had fallen off a cliff into the murky sea below. During her descent through the air, she blew Tempo one last kiss before descending into another illusion, specifically one with her mother and a younger Polka. Rather than hitting the water and perishing like she had initially planned, Polka had found herself in the fields of Tenuto Village where her and Frederic had first met. But, rather than meeting the pianist like she did at first, Tempo was there to greet her. Upon being reunited together yet again, the two embraced and shared their first kiss between each other. After this happened, the two went back to doing what they did best. Tempo aided in keeping Polka safe while she sold her now tax free floral powders to the citizens of Ritardando. The two make occasional visits to their old friends they've made throughout their journey. Tempo was preparing to propose to Polka the moment they were of age. Finally, things were beginning to look up for our heroes and all of their hardships almost seemed like a bad dream, however the threat of Polka succumbing to her disease was a reality that would soon have to face.
