In the beginning . . .
When the war began, no one had been expecting it, nor were they expecting what would become of the home they loved so dearly. The rise of Hell and the descent of Heaven’s angels happened all at once. Most people can only recollect the blinding light – the explosion that took place as the swiftly approaching darkness and righteous light collided. That’s when a world overrun by Supernatural beings became a reality; “supes” vs. “supes”, humans vs. humans… The war ultimately drove people to fight for their lives and the very Earth they inhabited.
Sadly, many perished in the initial battle.
The number of rebellions began to rise rapidly; cities were torn asunder and the human realm became more hostile than it had ever been before. It was now one filled with a looming veil of dark magic. Within a matter of hours of the war beginning, nature began to envelop the city – it was consumed by unnaturally creeping vines and all other matters of flora. The city swiftly took on the appearance of a concrete jungle abandoned centuries ago. The human race now fought for their freedom, and more importantly, for their survival. Supernatural creatures had encroached upon the city and were now beginning to take mortals as their slaves.
A good majority of the human survivors had managed to stay alive within the “Sanctuary” – a place created by a coven of incredibly powerful witches. The “Sanctuary” is a place where both supernatural beings and humans alike can co-mingle in a realm as peaceful as can be managed. The Code of Peace was law. Those who broke the law were damned to Purgatory. Not everyone was welcomed into the Sanctuary, for only those with good intentions are capable of entering.
After the War started to die down, a new hierarchy was established amongst all of those that had survived – supernatural, human, living and dead alike. A hierarchy ruled by one man. An army of faceless soldiers, all of which are heavily armed and tactfully trained, march through the city patrolling the streets and harassing all of those that cross them. They serve the anonymous ruler that established this feared hierarchy. No one truly knows who he is, but many have come to fear him.
“Big Brother” has his eyes on each and every person within the City of Souls.
Everyone makes their own path here... So tell us....
Can you survive in the City Of Souls?
Earth
Now, Earth is in ruins; plant life has overtaken the city, thanks to the help of the magic used during the war. As for the buildings that have yet to be reduced to rubble? They’ve been boarded up and reinforced as much as is possible considering the reasonable lack of materials. The people have salvaged what’s left of their homes and businesses.
When the war first began, so did the rioting and pillaging. Most homes and businesses were robbed, vandalized, or destroyed entirely. Most standing buildings are only viable enough to be used as make-shift shelters and trading stations. None of them can truly be considered “homes”.
“Money” is no longer the common currency, it’s now just a recent memory and a shiny, metallic, trinket to remind people of what used to fuel their greed.
What exactly is the new currency? Trades; the trading of goods, services, and abilities… anything that will aid in survival and rebuilding.
For those humans that live outside of the “Sanctuary”? They would be wise to not be caught, especially for those who have something to offer. The supernaturals seek them out specifically.
The Faceless Militia are the authoritative figures of the Earth now, and are overruled by Big Brother himself. No one truly knows where these shadowed soldiers originated from – or who Big Brother took to create them – but the people have learned that, although not impossible, they’re incredibly hard to kill. This dark army often raids the surviving communities; causing great destruction of property, ripping people from their families, or killing the “disobedient”.
Just before night fall, a siren sounds to notify people that it is now time to find shelter and security for the night. With the unnatural darkness of the night comes the eerie sound of all of those creatures that now truly go bump in the night. They take over the entire city, creeping into every crevice and alleyway in search of anyone that’s failed to find sanctuary behind closed doors.
Hell
Hell’s resemblance to Earth is unsettlingly disturbing; it’s the heat, public torture and deaths, as well as the free-walking demons that truly separates Hell from Earth. Hell possesses one of the most popular Black Markers within City of Souls. Often times, people who are out hunting find themselves so enticed by what Hell’s markets have to offer that they end up making a deal with the Devil himself. Lucifer, however, is not in Hell anymore. He’s left the demons to wander freely at their own will; they now are causing mayhem without discipline or guidance. So, if you find yourself wandering down to Hell in search of supplies or weapons, be careful of who you talk to. There are many creatures waiting to deceive those wandering willingly within the 9 Gates of Hell.
Heaven
The golden city was once a place that people would fantasize about going to... Now, it lies in ruins. After the war broke out, many angels fled to Earth in aid to their fallen, leaving the great, golden city to be ransacked by demons and devils until they were burned by the holy light. Many wondered where God had gone... Why he wasn't there to protect his city or his people. The kingdom still holds a devastatingly beautiful look, however. The buildings hold strong and the golden fountain in the middle of the city still pours water. But it's color has faded. Many angels lie dead and wilted within the darker parts of Heaven, forgotten.
Some of the arch angels still visit Heaven for the nostalgia of how great it once was.. Often times, it's used as a conference or meeting grounds. The portal to Heaven can be found within an abandoned church... But tread lightly... Those who do not belong will not be graced with open arms.
Purgatory
Purgatory is a maze of torture where the path you once took never takes you back the way you came. Should you find yourself lost in Purgatory, it'll be a race back to the next portal that opens up.... If you know where it's opening up. While you're trying desperately to find your way out, you're more than likely to run into so very unfriendly creatures who's main goal is to torment your soul. If you stray far enough, you may even find yourself at the insane Asylum, where the souls of those most tormented linger and await for their next victim to wander in...
Can you make it out of Purgatory alive?
Sanctuary
Sanctuary's title is pretty much self-explanatory. It's a place where those who are seeking refuge and survival can come and keep out of sight from those who hunt them. However, it's not so easy to remain or even get into the safe haven. Only those with good intentions, who do not cause drama may enter and remain in the Sanctuary.
The Sanctuary is home to anything and everything - demons, angels, werewolves, humans, ect - so long as they're all there and share one thing in common. They're trying to survive. It's controlled and enchanted by powerful witches who deemed the place sacred ground. The second a conflict arises within the Sanctuary walls, the offending party is cast out immediately, and thrown into Purgatory, never allowed to enter the walls of the Sanctuary again. So tread lightly, my dear friends... For you only have one chance at complete safety, here. -
