A Pirate's Life
Metrin née Absol gave up his past when he took to the sea. While he had been born to parents inducted into Guild business, the practice bored him. Too much paperwork, not enough sunshine. When he came of age, the salty air of the seas called to him with travels and exotic peoples. He left with two bags of belongings to his name and never looked back. His family was sedentary, they enjoyed their earnings, but he wanted to earn his own way instead of living of other people's work.
His history quickly earned him a place on board as quartermaster, but supplies were not his interest, he wanted to talk to people, to make himself invaluable to more than just the captain. He worked to build a network of allies in ports, captains, merchants, and quartermen. People that he could count on for routes, weather updates, and business exchanges. His methods were harsh and unforgiving. His rates were high, and his guarantees came at a steep cost, but he became known for pulling through. He was the premium product and his name spread across the water. These are his journeys before and after that fateful day that the shard of the Steadfast General found him.

The Alabaster Sentinal's exaltation was sudden, dramatic, and isolated. Taking place on the ship he had called home for a year plying his trade as the quartermaster that gives none. His name meant little, but his reputation as a backhand tradesman had become something of a small world legend. His trade practice left those willing to trade wondering why their pockets were so light, and safe enough to return to deal again, even after his premium. The captain of the Seacrest Falcon was much of his success, and the expert crew knew how to handle such a light ship the skimmed over waves like gusts of air. They outran competing tradesmen, fled pirates, and circumvented most if not all tariff posts.
That all changed when there was now a Dawn of Sol Invictus aboard. The captain challenged him in fear and lost, and the crew was unsure of their new lot. Most left at the next port, leaving Metrin to recruit as he could. His routes remained, but the confidence he enjoyed had faded as he picked up the responsibility of the ship's captain. He began his ruse as the son of an sea-dwelling god, and though wary of him, he could garner some respect in his abilities. His routes he had committed to memory, and his contacts stayed with the ship and quartermaster, so he made his way on with life.
It was the first tariff port that caught him unaware. A new tax site in the Coral Archipelago had been bought by the Imperial Navy in hopes of collecting on the more exotic goods traveling across the 'merchant' routes. The Seacrest Falcon left those ports without paying their 'fees' to the cheers of those aboard and the angry shouts of the guardsmen on the docks. Two days passed as they sailed on to their next destination. On the third day, however, billowing sails from twin masts of an Imperial Cruiser were seen on the horizon and were approaching steadily over the day's course.
All of the crew stood on deck anxiously as the Azure Reaver paralleled the Seacrest Falcon and a small unit of uniformed enforcers boarded. The man in front, obviously in charge with his over the top ridiculous hat, introduced himself as Ledaal Hai Yun, commander of the Jade Corvettes and captain of the Azure Reaver. Metrin and the crew were having a tax collected as well as having an 'evasion fee' levied against them, which would result in nearly half of their merchandise being confiscated. Outraged at the insane tariff, Metrin took hold of the boom of his corvette and swung it with brutal force , sweeping the Imperial guardsmen overboard. Hai Yun may have fallen over with everyone else, not expecting the force of the movement, but the water seemed to almost envelop him and launch him up and back onto his ship. Metrin, not wanting them to be able to catch them, hurled an iron cannon shot as hard as he could at the rudder of the Reaver, splintering it. Confidant in the hobble, Metrin had the Seacrest Falcon off before the Imperials could arm their weapons.
