  • London, England; 1567

A large wall surrounded London, in hopes of keeping the streets of London and safe from mischief.

The streets of London were always crowded, but when it grew dark, it seemed there were hardly anyone out besides the prostitutes and the drunkards.

Shops lined the streets of London, vendors yelling out various items they were selling and how much. It was a busy place, where you wouldn't be noticed. The buildings were tall, the houses seemed to be squished together, no backyard like you had at home. This place seemed dirtier than what you had thought it would be. You could see all types of animals scurrying about (rats, dogs, cats, even a monkey?!) The smell was okay. There seemed to be a never eluding smell of burning wood.

The weather was almost always chilly until about 3 or 4 when the sun would be high in the sky.

  • Society

The People: Kept to themselves, unless they were in a public place for socializing. Some seemed a little... off. Those would be the ones who were open and outgoing and would talk to everyone! (I.e: A ball, a coming out party, wedding, bar, an invitation from the Queen!)

Ranks: There were three classes; The Upper class, the Middle class and the poverty. The middle class was just beginning to emerge and was not big in numbers.

    The Upper class:
Clothing: Elaborate. Mostly wore colors of purple as because it was the rarest of all the colors. Here are a few examples of what men and women wore back then.

    Shirt
    Stockings or hose

Separate sleeves (in case it gets hot, you can take them off!)
    Breeches
    Belt
    Ruff
    Cloak
    Shoes
    Hat

    Women:

    Underclothes!
Smock or shift, also called a chemise made of linen
    Stockings or hose
    Corset or bodice
    Farthingale - a hooped skirt
    A Roll or Rowle
    Stomacher
    Petticoat
    Kirtle
    Forepart
    Partlet

    Over Clothes!
    Gown
    Separate sleeves

Working and poor class: Women wore a thick woollen 'kirtle', a square-necked ankle-length dress with a fitted, laced bodice and full skirts. Also wore an apron over the top to keep the dress as clean as possible. The men wore long hose, loose breeches, shirt and a thick belted 'jerkin' similar to a long waistcoat.

Men and women wore something like this:
