Colette Ridley hadn't greased up the guitar. Swear bro, swear! Had gotten crumbs on her favorite shirt though. Was she trying to gross out Florence? Hell yeah. Her brother deserved a little tension after that comment. She wasn't gross, and Colly? Seriously, that nickname was likely not the worst in Florence's repertoire, but it was getting irritating. He'd been only following for five minutes. That was at least a plus. For all of the window shopping and exploring she'd done already, her feet were feeling it. Did he need to know that she'd even stopped in to look in a risky lounge bar? Nope. Keep that one a secret. Hooking arms? A devilish thought creeped into her head. "What is so gross about it? Florence, you're touching my gross arm. Oh no! The hands, bruh, the HANDS!?" Grabbing for her brother's hand as she was pulled towards the corner.
Oranges could have SWORN that he'd seen his sister grease up the guitar after eating that hot dog. GROSS, MAN. And she was getting her shirt filthy! The favorite shirt?! "You can't keep that thing clean at least for like, a day?" He exasperatedly threw a hand out. Heck yeah he was pulling her along to the opposite street corner- corner of a bar, actually- to get away from the music shop and the precious, precious instruments. Don't need to pay for something they probably couldn't afford- and even then, where would they put an instrument in their RV? Hello? Florence had worse names up his sleeve than 'Colly' but.. Eeh. For sure he might have thrown a ca'nip if he'd known his sister popped into a risque place. No creepy people all up on her, thank you? Ew, the thought. Nobody wanted to think of their sister like that, man. "It's gross," he'd explain with a roll of his hand, "Because before you touched your GRUBBY PAWS all over it, they were clean, pristine and--" A shriek cut off his words as he slapped his twin's hand away, letting the arm go immediately to start brushing off his own. Ew. Ew. EW. "I JUST got this shirt recently, Colette!" Hey- he had a good temper.. Except with- you guessed it- his sibling. "Do NOT touch me with your dirty fingers. You have hot dog grease all over and it's disgusting." Boy- that slap at her hands though- he wasn't holding back anything so- oof, the sting?
Will Hadote had had his fair share of arguing today- okay, it wasn't as bad as it could've been, because he'd walked off. Now, he was still in a slightly sour mood -no one liked being treated like a leper, after all- and he was headed back to his truck after doing a bit of shopping for the necessities. A grocery bag or two was slung over his wrist, and he paused at the corner of the Kraken, briefly wondering if he was still banned after that bitch had caused a scene- because of him, naturally. Digging out a pack of toothpicks from his bag, he ripped the plastic off, popped one out, and was in the process of propping it up between his lips when he heard shouting from two further down the sidewalk... twins? And they clearly didn't get along.
Colette Ridley did indeed get the sides of her shirt a little dirty. It is her favorite shirt, but washable none the less. "I can keep this thing clean for longer than that!" Temper temper, and Colette's was shooting out of proportion. He was pulling a little too much, but she knew him for his controlling behavior. Having to pay for that guitar, because of her somewhat greasy hands? Come on, not possible. Maybe. "Paws? Oh, I see, so you are comparing me to a dog!" The thought was cut off by that slap. Her face showing her instant anger. He'd slapped her for his shirt? "Oh, I'm sorry. Let me wash my hands before touching you, Floor!" Rubbing at her stinging hand, before hauling off and cracking her knuckles against Florence's arm. A punch because of a hand slap? Colette had a short fuse, and her brother would sometimes take the brunt of her reactions. Siblings. Attention flicking over to Will for a brief moment, before coming back to glare at Florence.
Oranges scoffed, furrowing his brows tightly. Okay- yes, pulling maybe a LITTLE too much- but was he really comparing his sister to a doggo? .. Was he? .. Oh. "If you can keep it clean, then keep it clean! And yeah, please DO wash your hands!" .. Floor? FLOOR? "At least I don't BARK at everything!" OOF- that punch, man. Got hit square in the bicep. Hand went up to cover after with a sharp seethe. Inhale. Control thyself. Sharp exhale. Glance was shot towards Will, then to Colette. HECK. He'd grip his arm a bit tightly, then let it go after a second or two. "That hurt, firespark." There was like.. A witness here, hello?
Will Hadote was indeed a witness! That slap got retaliated with a punch, and at least things weren't escalating from there, physically anyway. He wouldn't have to step in and break them up. He finished getting that toothpick out, putting the pack in his back pocket, and then the rustling of the grocery bag was finished. Then they both were looking at him for that a brief moment. "Hey, don't mind me." Carry on! As long as shit didn't get too crazy.
Colette Ridley gaped at her brother. He actually thought people needed to wash their hands before touching him? Come on, brother. Florence had to know she'd never agree to that process. Giving Will a false smile, and trying her best at maintaining a friendly "Hey." In greeting, before Florence spoke again. Too much of a waste of time. "B.. Bark at everything?!" She had to agree, maybe punching her brother was too much. Colette might have even stopped herself from further anger fueled actions, had he not called her 'firespark'. Eyes a little wide as she contemplated quite a few retaliating moves. The one that won out? A straight up shove. She may have been shorter, but she knew just where to pushed those palms of hers into. "You said you'd never bring it up!" What's this? Florence knew, damn well, that her private memory was not for public insult.
Oranges sucked his lower lip momentarily into his mouth. Don't mind Will? Alrighty. FACTS: Shouldn't have called his sister 'firespark' considering past things but.. It was heat of the moment and it slipped? That shove had him stepping back to the wall of the bar, narrowing his steely gaze. Oh boy. Rumble time? He'd shove off from said wall to tackle his twin down, shoulders being grabbed at. "Colette- you KNOW you have to keep your temper in check!" Why? WHY? What was the big reason why?! "Remember Ohio?!" .. Yo what happened in Ohio? Obviously something big enough for them to move to the Coast? And- yeah, you bet he was gonna aim to try and keep his sibling to the ground to STAY.
Will Hadote gave an acknowledging half-nod to Colette as she greeted him... before going back to yelling at her brother. Not that he was surprised at that. What was so big about calling the chick 'firespark'? He felt like he'd get punched if he asked- and speaking of punching, shit was starting to escalate. What had happened in Ohio?? Maybe he only only interested in that because it was his home state. "Hey, hey, calm down!" Speaking to both of them, and if Florence had managed to tackle his sister, he'd move to try and pull him off to separate the two. Maybe it wasn't his place and they should've been allowed to duke it out, but eh. They could always do that later, if nothing else- rematch. Or just be so tenacious as to ignore the crap out of him and go at it, anyway.
Colette Ridley took that tackle like a champ, sort of. A puff of air escaping her as she hit the ground. Florence was saying something about Ohio. Oh, she remembered that well enough. Will was saying to calm down. She was trying to, but being held down wasn't her strong suit. "That guy had it comin'! If you don't want your nose bit too, you'll get off!" Shoving his right arm with her left hand, before attempting to smash a fist into his right cheek. Which apparently wouldn't connect. Who'd of thought?! Swing and a miss! Calming down though? Kinda, sorta. That left hook miss was presenting her with a possible elbow to her brother's face. She might have wanted to, but in all honesty, she hated hurting Florence. Will was moving to pull her bro off? Maybe that was a good idea.
Oranges was successful at least in the tackle, and a good moment of holding Colette down? Arm was dislodged and, WHOO, LUCKILY his face was missed by the fist- but his chin surely wasn't missed by the elbow, which had Florence puffing and damn near ready to start grabbing before he was pulled off and away. Thanks, Will! "She fucking bit someone's nose OFF in Ohio!" Exasperated hand motions towards his sister given as he claimed his balance back. Face all a-flush. It was an awkward time, really. The worst. There was a reason they left the place. Now Flor was rubbing at his whole face, as if there was just.. An offense on the whole front. Ouchies. Breathe, huff through it, man. "You can't just think biting people is the solution to every fight!" He'd turn quick on his heels to Will, wild-eyed almost before quickly holding his own arm behind his back and straightening his spine. Regain composure, damnit. "My sister is nuts. Sorry. Colette needs to still LEARN a few THINGS," he'd direct sideways.
Will Hadote, at the very least, broke up the physical aspect of the fight. ...At least for two seconds, until one of them said something to piss the other off, and they probably went at it again. "She-" Bit someone's nose off?? Thaat was... something. Worse, even, than Jean taking a bite out of his shoulder that one time; at least she hadn't bitten his -face-.
Colette Ridley scrambled to her feet, not even caring to wipe off her pants with these comments of his. Yes, thank you Will! Yeah, she'd bit the man. "For a damn good reason!" Was there though? Is getting pinned to a wall by a stranger good enough? "I don't bite people all the time." Continuing to glare at him. Looking to Will though, with a little less of a glare. Looking him up and down, actually. "Thank you." Quick, to the point. She would have likely put more effort into it, but Florence was smearing her reputation through the mud. "Nuts?!" Hands on hips, maybe just to keep from shoving him again. She knew better than to piss of Florence too badly, right? Nah, she was moving in for another shove. "Learn a few Things?! Florence, you can't just think that controlling people is right!" That shove though.. Might have felt like she was slapping his chest instead. Could chalk it up to her not really wanting to hurt him, but yeah, still might have looked rather comical. Will was getting the story behind Ohio? Hopefully he wouldn't go blabbing about it, they hadn't been caught since that altercation. What was the rest of that night though? Colette had no recollection.
Oranges inhaled a short, sharp breath. Arm clasped tighter behind himself. "She bit someone's nose off, yeah. And then we had to leave." Woe be to that poor soul, man. Turning back on his heel again, just halfway, he'd be glaring right back at his sister. "If you didn't sneak off somewhere SEEDY without me--" No, no, don't finish that sentence. "You DO bite, Colette!" Controlling-- Oof. Okay. Kind of had him there. He'd take one singular step back from that 'chest slap' shove. The tightening grip on his own arm was.. Probably going to leave a bruise. Nails were digging in past his sweater. "Just you, until you can handle yourself in the world better, Colette. Who knows what creep is gonna try and snatch you up somewhere? You're all I have!" Just. Keep. Gripping. He was turning right back around to face Will once more, pursing his lips. "We basically had to book it. There was alcohol involved and.. It was just kind of a mess." Yes. Simplify it. Don't give too many details. "Since Nan passed, my sister's been a little kooky." .. Smearing reputation? Or making sure people didn't find too much interest? Was that control? HM.
Will Hadote could excuse biting someone, but biting someone's nose -off-? ...Okay, he could still think of a few reasons why that would be acceptable, but still. "Don't mention it," he said, before they were yelling at each other again. Eesh. "Nan-?" Figuring it was probably a grandma or something, but he knew a Nan, so just had to be sure! Colette pushed, and Slick moved to physically get between the two, now. "If you two don't stop going at it, the bar we're right next to is gonna call the cops." Okay, maybe not, but he'd rather be safe than sorry, and warn them just the same.
Colette Ridley waved her hands up, an exhausted motion. "I only bit the tip of his nose off!" Even she could see the craziness behind that statement, but figured it still needed to be said. Sneaking off somewhere seedy though? "It was not seedy, it was a goddamn gig. You know damn well we needed the mon-!" He was still continuing? Clenching her hands into fists at her sides. Just her? Well shit. That was pulling the temper back up. With her being all he had though, she was shutting up. Otherwise she'd be spouting about handling herself, when she clearly wasn't doing too well on that front. As for the mess they'd left back in Ohio. "It would have been just fine if he hadn't shoved his hand do-" No, not about to finish that sentence either. Face blank of emotion. Nan was dear to her, as well. "Yeah, stick together." Looking away from Florence, finally. A flood of emotion, before hiding her reaction to that statement. Staring at Will. When did he get between them? "Cops?" Taking a step back, and unclenching her fists. Being new in town and pissing off law enforcement? No, that wouldn't be good. Especially with their enrollments in college just being finalized. Looking over Will's shoulder, she'd stick one finger out to point at Florence, "Later." Eyes narrowed on him.
Oranges did in fact, mean 'grandma'. They didn't know anyone else named Nan. Steely gaze slipped back to look at Will. Ah, thank this fellow stranger for getting in the middle. It certainly cut down on the physical fighting. Who knows how bad it may have gotten? Florence delicately rolled his shoulders, because the way he was holding back his arm was tensing all the muscles. No cops needed here! They hadn't even gotten their state IDs yet. Hey, HEY, Colette. "Biting the tip of someone's nose off is still biting off a chunk of someone's nose, regardless!" Wait- a GIG? HOOOLD up. That got wild-eyes back on Colette. "Excuse you?" WHAT? "Shoved his hand down WHERE?" Did he need to zoom back to Ohio to kick someone's ass? Because he would. Will definitely had his attention though, and him being between the siblings did in fact give them space enough to breathe. A squint was shot towards Colette, though. "Yeah, don't want cops.. Sorry about all.." Lips pursed. He wasn't hand gesturing right now, because he was controlling his own temper with holding his own arm back. "This." General shit? "I'm Florence. That's my sister, Colette. What's your name?" Yes, maybe he could divert the entire thing. <<
Will Hadote glanced to Colette- gig, someplace seedy, needed the money? Either she could play instruments, or she could play something -else-. Hadn't he heard mention of a guitar earlier, though? For her sake, he was going to assume that that was what she'd meant. Orr, maybe not, when people's hands shoving themselves questionable places were mentioned. "Slick," he answered after his name was asked, and tried to commit the two of their own names to memory.
Colette Ridley would indeed own up to that Later, especially when Florence continued to mention about biting off that guy's nose. A scoff at the thought of it. She could have done much worse. Hadn't she, though. The rest of that night? Couldn't remember, pleading the Fifth on this one. Maybe even momentary insanity.. "Yeah, a gig." Glaring at him again, which turned into a little of a shocked expression. Shit, she hadn't told her brother about what the guy had actually been doing. Opting out of it while they were still in Ohio, due to this obvious reaction that she had been anticipating. Nah, bruh, no need to go back now. That gig? He'd have to keep guessing. She did know her way around a couple instruments. Guitar included. Looking to Will again, holding out her left hand. "Sorry," Still ticked about Florence trying to make her look psychotic, and feeling rather awkward about her behavior, "Nice to meet you, Slick." Did her offered handshake look rather put off? Sorry man, she was trying not to make herself look like more of a jackass. Good diversion, Florence. Colette was falling for it. Hook, line, and sinker.
Oranges' sister was as pure as the sun was burning hot, yo! Or at least, to his knowledge. From what Florence thought, in his protective mind. She would NEEEVVEERR stoop to that level, would she? Music it was. Music it had to be. "Nice to meet you, Slick. Sorry it's under these circumstances." Could have been better. Definitely. Hey, if he made his sister look nuts, then creeps wouldn't wanna date her, right? Gotta monitor those peeps that just want in people's pants. Florence logic? He wasn't offering handshakes.. But he WAS loosening his grip on his own arm, slowly.
Will Hadote shrugged at the apologies from the both of them; well, would you lookit that. "Been around worse." He shook Colette's offered hand, having set down his two grocery bags a little bit ago when he'd pulled Florence off of her. After that handshake was done, now, he picked them up again. "It's no problem."
Colette Ridley looked between Florence and Slick. This guy had been around worse. Was that a good sign? Or did it mean something worse for the area they'd just moved into? "Speaking of circumstances, you're a local here, right?" A smile was back on her face. Opportunity was standing right in front of her. Awkwardly enough. She had hopes she didn't make all that bad of a first impression, what with the information on the area she was looking at asking about. "Do you know any places looking for help, employees?" Motioning to Florence, then herself, "We're new here, and the search on work hasn't gone too well." Clasping her hands in front of her, and tapping her two pointer fingers together. A habit, likely best to ignore it. Tensions already high, from sibling bickering. They weren't going down any time soon, but this was making for a very nervous Colette.
Oranges finally, after a few moments, ran his hand through his hair, eyes fluttering. Was that an eye roll or was he just tired? The latter, most likely. This had gotten cold and awkward. It wasn't long until he was crossing his arms behind his back again to just breathe in the air. The ocean was nearby, so he'd focus on the scent of the salt in the air, gaze trailing off to the side. Let Colette speak. He'd done enough yelling, and she was asking important questions. The agenda in his mind was stacking, for the moment. Get back to RV, when finished.. Immediately clean clothing. Shower. Change. Check newspapers. Have a coffee, maybe? And eat. As much as budget would allow.
Will Hadote blinked at the question. Local? "I mean... kind of, I guess. Lived here for a few months, and before that I lived here for around... half a year two years ago." Ah, that work question. "Uh..." He had to think for a moment. "There's a bowling alley or skating rink or whatever opening up soon downtown, I think; might be a janitor job opening up soon at the local broadcasting station... Other than that, I mean, the usual." He shrugged. They weren't fancy jobs, but they were something.
Colette Ridley had quite the confusion with that. He had lived here twice now? Alright, then he should know the area well enough. Good things! A bowling alley or skating rink and a janitor job? Possibilities. She was outgoing enough to fit into the skating rink job, but the janitor one might be a stretch. Outlook brightening, she kept that smile of hers, "Skating rink and bowling alley? Sounds promising. Thank you." Looking down at his bags. Hope there was nothing frozen in there. "Sorry for bothering you." Attention turning back on Florence for a moment. An eye roll? Really, bruh, quit it. She'd taken it as that, at least. Also in need of some down time at the RV. Or a good chance to finish the conversation between Florence and herself. Good thing they had saved up enough, legitimate or otherwise, to get the damn thing. Slick obviously had groceries he was trying to haul somewhere, might as well let the guy finish his errands.
Oranges tapped his fingers in the air- with his free hand, of course, imitating playing keys of a piano. Idle movements. Listening. There was a janitor position opening? He'd jump for it. Florence hated trash, and didn't even like picking up other people's trash.. But if he was being paid for it? And it was at a broadcasting station? No big deal, right? How much trash could a broadcasting station make? And that was solid money, too. Or- he thought it might be. "Broadcasting station and bowling alley. Thanks." Skating rink? Too much a hazard of getting run into. Er.. Rolled into? And so many people. Janitorial? Solid. Less hassle. Nobody bothering the shit out of him. "Thanks for your help, Slick." FINALLY, he'd let go of his own arm again to gently hook with Colette's to drag his sister dearest off. They had a long walk to go, yo. And it was already getting dark by now! "We can use the library tomorrow." Free internet? Yes.
Will Hadote hoped he just hadn't ruined his job chances with Greth by telling them about the rink- he'd been so preoccupied with other shit lately that he just hadn't felt like following up about it. The janitor job? He was planning on quitting anyway, if he wasn't fired anyway, hence the opening. "No problem." He shrugged. "And it's fine; I was just gonna go back to the rv and crash, anyway." At least this way he got a little more social interaction that wasn't necessarily bad? "Peace out," he said as the two started to head off, then got going, himself, back to his truck.
Colette Ridley was still pondering on what other jobs might be out there, if these two didn’t work out. That was kind of cut off as Florence grabbed her arm, pulling her away once more. Glaring at him, before waving to Slick, “Hope to see you again.” Trying to keep civil, and it was obvious in her twitching eye. Oh brother, why you do this?! The library? It would give her time to look up the jobs Slick had said about, and maybe even a few others. Thank goodness for random acts of kindness! Trying to get her feet down, and twist around to properly walk. Maybe even pulling at her arm a little. Who knows, she might find a good employer. A great difference from the previous scumbag.
Colette Ridley hadn't greased up the guitar. Swear bro, swear! Had gotten crumbs on her favorite shirt though. Was she trying to gross out Florence? Hell yeah.
