Logs
Missy Kissinger had her booth set up, but there was a rather small looking, mousey girl sitting at her booth so she could run around. Of course, she was dressed in all pastel, and didn't look quite happy about it. Branding, though, amirite? Glass case with differen't glitters, herbs, resins, and other rare occult charms done in a pretty way. Necklaces. Charms. Crystals. Boxes. Chokers and 'Fairie Chiq' accessories that looked hand made. She was, however, standing a bit away from her booth to help other vendors if they needed it. She had a nametag on a lanyard around her neck, just so vendors had an idea who to look out for. Coffee in hand from the coffee and waffle foodtruck parked by the docks, looking around with wide eyes. Nervous? Missy? Neeever.
Valerie Ravn...okay look. Valerie has had a hell of a past few weeks. She hardly made an appearance in town. Or anywhere else, for that matter. That tends to happen when assassins come after your boyfriend. But that's a story for another day. The thrift shop she normally worked at was closed today because of this event...she could have just stayed home. Instead, here she was standing on a dock with a plate of blueberry waffles, barely awake and ready to mingle.
Alexion felt like he needed coffee and some food, despite the fact that the dog could've been fed if he'd just stayed home. People were going to start leashing him up at night if he couldn't keep from wandering off every day. Hand scrubbed at his face as he unknowingly stepped into the middle of some really festive stuff and he inhaled slowly, momentarily overwhelmed. What? Was there here before? Alexion really needed to stop staying awake until the early hours of the morning because it was messing with his head. He beelined for the waffle truck, impatiently waiting his turn and then greedily scooping up his plate once it was given to him. He'd forgotten the coffee but that probably wouldn't have been good for him anyway. A waffle was gnawed on as he approached Missy's booth, glancing about to spot someone else with a plate of waffles. Breakfast buddy was given one of those head nods he saw the gang giving each other every now and then. Lex was such a fast learner.
Missy could be bffl with Val since she had death-attempts-on-bf problems too. Fun times. Missy had enough energy for everyone, giving a wave to Val as she came down the docks. The crowd was thin but it was early. "Hiiee." She pipped, coffee still in hand. "Feel free to look, and try things on." There was definitely strange energies coming from the glass case in the center of the table, surrounded in the more mundane items. The thing labeled 'irridescent scales' in the craft items didn't look like fish scales. That glitter under the case in vials had a strange sheen to it as well, and was the same pigment as Missy's hair.
Valerie Ravn's curious crow eyes naturally drifted to the shiny objects on Missy's table. But the short, slightly chubby woman appeared perfectly human, nothing suspicious here. Val's eyes darted between the items, the vials, the jewelry. At last she spoke up, "W-what is that?" and pointed to the glass case.
Alexion chewed off a piece of his waffle, delighted with the breakfast item. It wasn't bacon, nothing was as good as bacon, but it was at least number two on his list of most favored items. The familiar could feel that things on the table weren't quite normal and he gave a little smile, "You have a lot of nice things." It was said just as a way of making conversation, the dog was all around awkward because people interacted with each other so strangely. Murmured words and shy looks instead of just blurting out what they wanted to say. It was something that he was still working on, trying to understand social cues. As it was, the dog.. despite having his own plate of food.. was now eyeballing Val's plate while she was distracted. Yes, they both had waffles but hers had blueberries.
Missy Kissinger looked to Val, then back to the case, kind of thinking about which words to chose. "Its called pixie dust but lord knows what it really is. I honestly think people just use it for like...pretty ink for spells or pigments. Must have pearl or something in it." The word "spells" got rabbit ears with her fingers and a wink. "And those are some kind of scale. I honestly think its like some sort of carved stone or mold or something." Those were totally dragon scales. "Thats a special sage called fairie sage. And those little bags are luck bags. The leather is non-vegan." She felt that was obvious but she was asked once. "Thank you." She smiled. "My luck bags get really good reviews. Today they're half price at 25 dollars each." The pasty girl actually sitting at the cash register looked up from her phone and rolled her eyes at the shpiel.
Valerie Ravn's eyes glimmered with fascination! Despite how nonchalant Missy was about it all, Val was immediately taken. Whoa! Magic! Shiny! "Fairie Sage? What makes it different from normal sage?" Valerie was so taken by Missy's words that she put down her plate of waffles and began to pick up some of the accessories. Now there was a poor defenseless plate of blueberry waffles just begging for Lex to take.
Alexion nodded his head during all of Missy's spiel, his eyes flitting towards the scales a few times. Valerius might like that as a gift. It was tempted to turn over the money he was given as an allowance for it but he was still undecided. "I'll think about it, yeah?" Toothy grin before he saw that Val's plate was finally unguarded. His own still had a waffle or two so he did what he thought was best. Swapped one of his for one of hers. To him, it was a fair enough trade and one that the dog didn't really have to do. He folded up the blueberry waffle and took a bite, humming happily to himself. That was very much worth the trade, as sneakily as he'd accomplished that. Remembering to swallow his food before he spoke, he gestured towards the scales. "How much for those?"
Missy Kissinger shrugged a little when Val asked what made it different. "Some people think its better than white sage. It smells a bit sweeter. I think its all just preference. It goes with my whole motiff though. I like the purpley speckling in the leaves. I kind of just make these accessories and cosplay items in my free time. I'm a huge dork when it comes to all things Froud and Amy Brown." She bit her lip as Lex asked about the scales. "Those......are more a show item. Its hard to get my hands on but I suppose I can let a few go. Do you have a price in mind?" She reached into a small cup of pins, and held them out a small pin that simple said 'I still believe' over a mushroom. "These are totally free though."
Valerie Ravn snatched up a few pins! She still eyed the jewelry, but for now, she turned back to her waffle...which was suspiciously blueberry-less. She looked over at Lex to see him eating a blueberry-full waffle. She squinted her eyes, but then she laughed. Don't worry, she'll get her revenge some day. She turned back to the luck bags. Well dang, of course has to get one! She picked one up. "How much for one of these?"
Alexion cocked his head to the side, now fixated on the scales. He really wanted them. "I don't need all of them but maybe just one or two?" Lex was really bad with pricing things, mostly because he didn't know how money worked all that well yet. He just kinda gave cash to people and hoped they gave him the right amount of change. "Name your price, any price." It was something he'd heard Valerius say although granted.. the man had been talking about guns. At being caught by Val, he only offered a sheepish grin. He wanted to try something with toppings. "Waffle was pretty good!" Oh, Lex. Stop taking things just because you want them. His attention returned to Missy, if only to see if she'd sell him the scales.
Missy Kissinger smiled as she grabbed a few pins. Her website was engraved on the back of the pins in the metal. "Give them to your friends." She smiled. Scored free advertising from the corvid one. "$25. Keep them in your pocket and you may have good luck. They last....well....depends on how unlucky you are." She shrugged. When he said to name a price she just kinda breathed out. She hmmed. "Whatcha got in your pocket?" She asked him curiously. "I guess uhhh...." She unlocked the glass case and lifted the top. It had a latch she could unfold to keep the glass top tilted up. She pulled three scales out, They were just a little bigger than a dime. "75 for these. Or 30 per scale. Only for these three. And a one time deal."
Valerie Ravn laughed at Lex's comment. "Why not ask for them at the food truck, then?" But she understood. Food was better when snatched from other people. All crows know this. Lex's fixation with the dragon scales was given a raised eyebrow but Valerie didn't comment on it. Instead, she turned back to the bag of luck...she contemplated opening it, but what if that nullified its power? In any case, she'd have to study how it works. Maybe she could copy its power with her own, natural valravn magic. Who knows!? She rummaged through her handbag and pulled out $25. "Here you go."
Alexion rocked on his heels as he waited, a patient boy even if he wanted to run around in a panic over the thought of him not being able to get them. He had strange fixations, leave him be. Once a price was named, he nodded and dug around for the wallet given to him. Though it couldn't be seen right away, there was a sticky note explaining the different items within and Lex's gaze flickered to it before he dug out a hundred dollar bill and put it down. "Do you have anything to wrap them with?" A sweet smile at that. His attention returned to Val as his ears got red, "I didn't know that was an option. Very good waffle though, will ask for it next time." Maybe. Or maybe next time he'd find someone else with yet another flavor and the process would repeat.
Missy Kissinger would note there would be a mix of herbs, and a small dried gecko carcass in the bag. There was an enchantment on the bags that was the main reason they were successful. Any ol gecko in a bag wont do. They smelled like lavandar and rose, at least. Most people would feel they were overcharged for potpourri, since the magick wasn't the type of magick you notice. Something NOT happening, isn't noticible. She gave him the 25 that was just handed to her from Val and handed the money to her associate, who was still clicking on social media as she stuffed the money in the till. "Thank you." She rummaged out a small golden colored ring box with pink cotton fluff on the bottom, putting the scales in them for him and handing them over. "Yay, you two are seriously my first customers."
Valerie Ravn stuffed her new luck bag into her handbag and zipped it up. "Well, glad I could help you out, then!" She smiled at Missy. "It's pretty early, though, so you'll get more customers later!" Valerie took a bite out of her non-blueberry waffle. Still pretty good. "Say, uh, you have, like, an actual store, right? I'd like to visit sometime!"
Missy Kissinger nodded a bit. "Yeah, I hope it kicks up. And the ferry will come in a few hours again. Maybe even get some mainlanders." She grinned, bringing up her shoulders then dropping them with a sigh. "I have a storage unit thats pretty big, its like an office, but I do a lot of online sales and I'll meet up with request items for clients." She nodded. "I swear people think I'm a drug dealer and its like no, thats not pot, its sage I swear. But my website is on that pin, and my contact info is on my site." She gave a small wave off to Lex, "Enjoy your dra.....fish scales." She cleared her throat. Subtle, Missy.
Missy Kissinger had her booth set up, but there was a rather small looking, mousey girl sitting at her booth so she could run around. Emit: The Walk on the Docks event is in full swing as more vendors have set up booths. The smell of street delights from food trucks drifted from the avenue off of Goliath Pier. Host: Missy Kissinger
Attendees: The Plant Witch, Oranges, Nolen, Devin Starr
logs
Missy Kissinger had left her attendant in charge for a while, a bit worried about the event and not wanting to spend too much time at the food trucks. She had an iced coffee from one of the brunch trucks as she sashayed her way back to her booth. Pink frilled cover over a large table with displays of jewelry, pins, and all things floral and fairie. A few cosplay items amongst the cheaper silver charms and bracelets. There was a locked glass display case however with more odd occult ingredients and rare trinkets. Large iridescent scales. Odd looking feathers. Sage sticks. Vials of pink glitter. White strands of hair in small tied bundles. Once she reached her table she allowed the bored April-Ludgate-esque attendant to take off, now minding the table on her own.
The Plant Witch was rather proud of himself. This Walk the Dolk thing was going to be his second public forum event since moving to the CC. See, I can be sociable. he thought to himself, as if relaying the message to his judgemental house cat. Magnolia had seemed rather surprised and alarmed that he was leaving the house, but he had given her sufficient food and reminded her not to eat any of his palnts before leaving. It would only be a couple hours, and this event promised to make him a little money on the side. Money was always good, right? Chang had set himself up a little stall near the end of the dock, liking to be out of the way and not too in the middle of the crowds. He had a simple wooden table stall with a dark purple blanket thrown over it, a simple array of things like crystals, homemade tea, and charms for necklaces were laid out for sale. He also had a small wooden box with some old looking tarot cards laying inside, ready for readings in case anyone was interested.
Oranges didn't show up really to spend much money because.. Hey, yeah, nah, the dhampir didn't have a ton to spend. Gotta save that for food.. But one ore two items maybe couldn't hurt. And.. As he was walking along, steel grey eyes spotted- Ooh, Tarot? So tempting? But then again.. So was Missy's table. Florence's attire today was converse-style creepers, black jeans, black sweater and slim grey windbreaker. Simple. Nothing that stood out too much. Gawd, how expensive was all the stuff at these tables? He didn't sleep well the prior night so maybe getting out and about would be refreshing. So here he was! First stop was Chang's table as he placed his arms behind his own back to gently grab an elbow to hold, brows raising. Curiosity's sake.. "How much for the tea?.." Because that was consumable and useful. That cranberry hibiscus smelled delicious, man. And- yes, he was eyeing those cards for a whole minute.. Missy was offered an awkward smile, at least!
Nolen was a much better cat than a person; and honestly, who better to represent a cat cafe than one of the cats that 'worked' there? He was of course winding inbetween Devin's legs at their own booth, some sample teas and coffees prepared and a few books that had graciously been able to leave the shop (though he'd be keeping a close eye on them, don't get any ideas) set on the table for people to see what they could read there. There was the typical shit; gotta have that Twilight, especially in this setting, but also a few old family tomes which people were probably going to assume as fantasy books. Who didn't love a good magical fantasy? Looked like the tarot reader was getting some attention, and he hopped up onto the table next to him to take a curious look. He did like magic quite a bit, even if he couldn't use it himself. And hey.. this guy looked like a perfect customer.
Devin Starr had been really...REALLY tempted to come as dog tot his whole walk the dock thing. He would've even wore a collar and leash! Laid there at the table and rolled over for belly rubs...honestly Nolen had just been a buzzkill when he told the werewolf 'No'. Why had he told the wolf no? Oh right, because the feline familiar decided going as a feline himself was a much better idea. It meant Devin was stuck being the face of 'Nolen's Tall Tails' while his loving boyfriend got to parade around as a cat. That man was givin him the best blowjob ever when they got back that was for damn sure! Ahem. Currently the man was leant back in his chair, a book that looked suspiciously like some sort of male erotica held in one hand while the other reached down to stroke along Marshall's back. Until he left to go check out Chang's table; was he really being ditched this early?
Always so nosy Marshall, let the man work." he fondly rolled his eyes before closing the book for now and instead glancing to Missy's booth. "Interesting assortment; what're those?" he'd point to those iridiscent scales as he shifted to stand and lean in for a slightly closer look. All the while keen attention was still kept on his own booth, because he surely wasn't about to let any books disappear. Except Twilight, someone can take them and burn them all to the ground for all he cared.
The Plant Witch turned his eyes away from the water to find someone had already stepped up to his simple little booth, offering a half smile. Chang wasn't the most expressive man. He had the sort of slow blink, deadpan stares, as friendly as he tried to be. "That depends. Are you currently suffering from any ailments? Do you have frequent headaches or stomach aches? Sore muscles? A chronic condition? Or if you're a pillar of health and are just looking for tea, my homemade brews are all delicious. I have cranberry hibiscus, lemon, black teas, green, white tea, black currant, chai matcha, and chamomile citron. Single packets are a dollar and a box of 12 is $10." He studied Florence closely, almost as if he were trying to see through him before -- CAT. Chang's eyes honed in on the curious feline, reaching out immediately to stroke under his chin.
Missy Kissinger wished he hadn't sent Little Miss Doom and Gloom home, because a nearby table made the girls eyes widen. Nails that were recently done tapped together, clicking. She of course eyed the other vendors table, he wasn't here when she left. She smiled when Florence eyed her table. She held out a pin for him, that had her website on the back of it etched into the metal. Better than a business card, right? Nodding as he went to check out Chang's table. Didn't blame him in the slightest. She saw the kitty and kind of raised a brow, looking at it with a him. That was rather healthy looking for a dock kitty. If Devin came as a dog, he probably would have cleaned up well off the food trucks. Devin got a pin handed to him too when he walked up. "They're uh.... scales from a rare fish." They were dragon scales. "They're just exotic and good for the craft....s.... crafts." She cleared her throat with a blush.
Nolen let out a rumbling purr as Chang gave him chin scratches, tail twitching behind him, eyes on Devin like see? This is why I came as a cat. Because heaven knew he wasn't any good at socializing when he had to wear his human face. They wanted people to come to the cat cafe, not be scared off by the glowering red head. He pressed his skull into Chang's hand, before he stepped closer and sniffed at his face. As a familiar, he could sense magic. And he could enhance it, though good luck getting him to do so intentionally. Still, some days he was just ebbing with extra power and couldn't seem to keep it in. If Devin didn't save poor Chang, Nolen was going to climb on his shoulders. See? Beautifully friendly kitty.
Devin Starr happened to be close enough to catch that raised brow and look offered to Nolen, the man only offering a smile. "That's Marshall; he's mine. Well, technically he's the mascot of Nolen's Tall Tails." he gestured to the booth he had been manning. The offered pin was taken and looked at for a moment before being pocketed and with a stretch he managed to pluck a card off his own booth. "Ah, here. It's a cat cafe with quite the assortment of interesting books. I am sure you could find something." he may be a dumb dog, but he worked in a magical bookstore and was dating a magical familiar. He was starting to get the hang of figuring out where magic was even if he couldn't pinpoint it exactly. The description of the scales had him humming lightly, they were pretty but he wasn't sure he'd actually have a use for them. "I suck at crafts. You got anything that my cat might like? Perhaps a pretty pink collar?" Yeah he was being just a bit of an asshole right now; though Nolen would probably actually like it. As if on cue his spidey senses tingled just than, glance offered to the very same cat with raised brow. "He's a friendly sort; he'll just sit on your shoulder and read with you all day if you ever stop by." and that was about as much warning as he'd give to Chang before he'd turn back to Missy and let Nolen go shoulder perching.
Oranges was getting a really, really annoying tickle in his senses, nose scrunching up a bit, brows furrowed. Itchy. CAT. He was allergic to kitties, man. It probably looked like he was standing there in disdain. Elbow gripped tighter. SO- Yeah, actually, he could answer some of Chang's questions. Devin was given a glance. Were those books? Oooh. Reading material. Focus. Gaze went right back to Chang. "Allergies," Gaze flicked to.. Nolen. Back to Chang. He probably looked like he was giving the dirtiest look, but he didn't mean it, honest. "Nightmares, recently." Mn. That was awkward to admit. A step was taken back. No staying near the kitty. Also, that helped because he had unlatched his arm to cover his nose with a sleeve. Ffuuu- "Cranberry hibiscus and lemon sound amazing. Can I get the packets of each of those two?" A treat. He could share that. With his sister and a friend. That was.. Six packets total. So six dollars. Ah- Missy was holding a pin out for him? He'd hesitate for a moment to eye it over before taking it to pocket with a "Thank you." Sorry, pretty kitty. Florence not gonna touch. "How much are readings?.." Hey, at least he could hear the name of the cat. Marshall. Nice name! "He's a cute cat," Flor called behind his sleeve. At Devin, of course. He was still pretty focused on this table, though.
The Plant Witch caught the way Flor glanced at the cat, nodding at the mention of allergies and nightmares. He stood up behind his stall before the cat could hop on his shoulder, more intent on helping his customer for the moment rather than petting the pretty kitty. "The lemon tea will help improve your immune system, and green tea helps with the sneezing and watery eyes and coughing that come with allergic reactions. I'll throw some green in for free. As for your nightmares.." he ducked under the table to see what else he had brought in his crate as backup, popping back up a moment later. He had a dried gnarled looking... thing in his hand. "Valerian root. Boil this in water and sprinkle it on your pillow cases when you wash them each time. It will help with the nightmares." He gathered the teas and slipped the dried root into a small bag and handed them to Flor, taking the money and putting it in the lockbox he had with him. "One reading is two dollars. That's one card."
Missy Kissinger heard about all the teas Chang listed off, despite her attention being on Devin about the scales. Oh those sounded good. She watched the man's cat climb the tarot reader and tea salesman and those cuuuute little necklaces. Neck craned up in attempt to see how the calm herbalist reacted to the cat attempting to climb up him. Hand moved over her mouth to stifle a giggle. She took the card and moved to take out her wallet to make sure she saved the card. "Oh I'd love to go to a cat cafe." Missy seemed to avoid eye contact , or look around between brief moments of eye contact. She looked around and hmmed. "Well....what about this?" She pulled out a small gold chain with a egyptian pendant of sorts. "What about this? It's real gold but it's not that pure and I got it in an estate sale.....even 100 will make me happy. You can get the link adjusted for your feline."
Nolen: The audacity of Chang to stand when his attention was being demanded! Nolen sagged slightly, looking like a wet cat, but he.. understood. Sometimes people were allergic to him. Weak people, in his opinion, but maybe it was just that his feelings were easily hurt by people not being able to stop sneezing when he was around. He didn't want to actually drive off any curious customers, so he hopped down from his spot and wandered back over to Devin- just in time to hear the bit about a pink collar. He had nice collars, thank you very much.. though he did eye that pendant with rapt attention. Such a peculiar cat. Oh yes, he wanted that, and he bit affectionately into Devin's leg to tell him as much.
Oranges listened and nodded along to Change, rubbing at his nose with his sleeve. Itch, itch, itch, man. Free green tea? Ah, man. He couldn't really accept free, could he? "I-- Are you sure-?" Oop- what- Valerian root? He didn't precisely want to touch it right now. Boil and sprinkle? Yeah, that seemed simple. And it was being bagged? Oh, bless Chang. He'd take money out and hand it over, then go back to covering his face. One reading was one card? He'd hand over six dollars. Worth it. Cat cafes were er.. Obviously not his thing. Sorry, Nolen. Just in time of scootin' off for Flor to backstep and sneeze into his elbow. Hard squint. Yeah, no, it's fine, folks. He's fine. "Six cards, please?.." Keep the distance from the kitty, eye the cards. Yep.
Devin Starr was a bit too focused on Missy to catch the signs of Florence's discomfort in relation to Nolen. He didn't really think anyone could be allergic to Marshall, but he learned something new every day! Oh well; that was probably one person who wasn't going to be making a visit to the cat cafe. Speaking of cats, he held a hand up to Missy in a bit of a 'hold on' motion before returning to Chang's table. "I heard something about allergies; you allergic to cats?" his question was directed to Florence as he eyed Nolen, who was already making his way back over. "Sorry about that." he could play nice! Even if he wanted to just go home, drink a beer and watch Netflix in his boxers. He could settle for more of that erotica book he had discarded though; but only after he finished his business with Missy. Speaking of..."Ouch! Naughty kitty." Despite his words though he reached down to scratch between Nolen's ears before scooping him up and glancing at the pendant that had caught his boyfriends' attention. "A hundred?" he reached into his pocket and flicked it open, handing over a crisp hundred. "Here you go, we can handle the adjustment though." after all Nolen might want to wear it as a human. He was tempted to ask for something for himself; but he rather liked his own necklace after all. Another glance was given back to Chang, he was sure Nolen would want some of those teas but they would have to wait until Florence left. Maybe do a whole swap when he came to check out Missy's wares.
Missy Kissinger watched Flor get a bit sneezy over the cat. Oops. The dock was usually lousy with cats, but they were waaay more skittish than crookshanks over there. The call on valerian root made Missy even more interested in Chang. And yes. She was being very nosey. Part of her wanting to do this was trying to feel out the community. She watched the cat bite the guys leg and dangled it playfully down for the cat, squatting down and petting his head. "See? He wants it." She nearly purred out herself. Missy kind of wanted a tarot reading....but it always came out the same, or similar for her. 10 of swords haunted her. Glance moved back to Devin, delighted when he pulled the cat into his arms. She handed him the necklace and took the money with a nod. "Thank you." She said gently. "I'll definintely be by the cat cafe. Thank you for the card."
The Plant Witch moved a bit of his wares to the side to make room for the cards, taking the money and putting it away before he sat down again and took the deck in his hands, shuffling slowly. He blew gently on the deck, knocking his hand against the stack before holding them out to Flor. "Please just place your hand on them for a moment." Chang let about five seconds pass before pulling the deck back, setting it on the table. In one smooth movement, he slid the deck to space the cards out. He went silent, eyes focused and intense as he lightly drew his fingertips across the backs of the cards. Occasionally his fingers would slow, easing one card upward until he had six. Once the rest of the cards were moved aside, he flipped them over slowly one at a time, speaking their name as he did so. "The Hanged Man, reversed. The Six of Coins, upright. The Eight of Wands, upright. The Eight of Cups, reversed. The Three of Cups, reversed. The Magician, upright."
Chang exhaled a slow breath, studying the spread of cards. "A reversed Hanged Man significes stalling and indecisiveness. Resistance to something. Have you given up control of something you shouldn't have? What's done is done, and you can't take it back now. This card calls on you to remain still and quiet, employ meditation to comfort your own heart and mind. The Six of Coins is about generosity and wealth, giving and sharing. You have the ability to help someone and you should, but do so gently, so that they may retain their dignity.
An upright Eight of Wands signals movement and change in your life. You've done the work, now step back and let things play out. A reversed Eight of Cups suggests you've run from something because of fear or resentment, now you're aimlessly drifting. This card bids you to give it a second chance and not give into indecision. A reversed Three of Cups speaks to your independence and your enjoyment of alone time.
Three is a crowd, but enjoy the comfort of your friends, and try to not let the idea of being left out cloud your mind." Chang slid the final card forward. "The Magician is Manifestation, resourcefulness and power. He inspires action. You have the skills you need to accomplish your goal. He urges you to be bold and confident." He finished with a soft sigh, leaning back in his char, offering Flor a smile.
Nolen would just have to make himself happy with his new present, the passing out of cards- hey, Devin, there's people walking by too, you better hand those out!- and his perch on his own table once more. At least it was close enough to Chang to watch the tarot reading happen, even if he couldn't actively sit on his shoulder and assess it all himself. Ah well, maybe next time. Something told him Chang would like the cat cafe, and if they only came away from this with two new customerse that was just fine. It was a shame that Flor was allergic to him; despite his angry looking face earlier, Nolen offered him a soft stuttering meow anyway, before he turned to look for anymore arriving guests. Gather round the reader, everyone, Nolen was just fine sitting here with his claws out just in case someone tried to steal a book.
Oranges's attention flicked to Devin. Oh! Wasn't he in a prior conversation, though? "Yes." The response was given with a nod. "It's okay. There's going to be cats in the world. I can't give blame for one being around the docks. It's cute." And.. Just because he was allergic, didn't mean he had to hate the fuzzballs. Missy's table was given another look over. Those scales looked interesting, but.. Budget. Back to card lookin'. Ah.. Place his hand? He'd do so, very gently. With the hand that wasn't using a sleeve to cover part of his face, of course. Interesting process! Flor had no damn clue what it all meant though but.. An experience was an experience even if it was Curiosity and interest. Hold up- that Eight of Wands one was gonna be tough. Step back and let things play out?.. Difficult. Flor liked having control in his life, thank you, cards. Eyes were wide as a deer in headlights, though. Interesting!
He'd keep that in his mind. Each little detail that he could. Nolen's meow was hecking CUTE, man. At least he could offer the kitty a little smile, past his sleeve. "Sorry, buddy." Attention back to Chang, expression slightly weary. "I appreciate it, thanks. Do you have a card that I can have, in case I want to contact you for another reading?"
Oranges blinked a few times. Say what? Chang didn't have a card? Florence would actually have to trek through the woods? Uh.. Sketch, a little tidbit.. But okay. A weird little pang though. Worry? "Okay. Thanks." Maybe he'd check it out. Maybe he'd stay home in the RV.. Or Maybe he'd just help out his friend with business stuff. Devin had his attention once more. Ah! No, not for the comics thing.. The name. "I'm Florence." It's okay. A lot of people sucked at introductions. Missy had his attention now! "Thanks," he'd say to Chang before slipping to Missy's table to- you know, talk proper. His arm was getting tired from covering part of his face. Agh. But at least he took his bag! "Hi. Yes, it's very intriguing. Do you happen to have the time? I'm impressed with the knowledge."And he liked her pin, he could compliment that but.. Awkward bean.
The Plant Witch began to slip the cards back into the rest of the deck as some of the other stall owners began to mill around, finally turning his gaze on Devin and taking the card, huffing to himself. He really should have thought about this, making cards. "I do enjoy cafes, and cats," he murmured quietly. He perked up at the interest in his teas, offering Devin a smile. "I'm sure we could work something out. Chang," he introduced quietly in return, looking over at Missy and giving her a wave as well. Those scales had caught his eye as he had been setting up earlier. He was feeling a trade was in order for some of her more magical objects. He looked back towards Devin. "What teas were you interested in?"
Devin Starr nodded to Florence at the introduction but wouldn't delay him any further. The further he got away from Devin and Nolen the better it would be for his allergies right? Chang had his attention anyway, reaching down for a moment to run a finger over the assortment of teas. "We also have books; I'm sure you could find more than one of interest." which was to say they had a vast collection of magical tomes! "As for teas; all of them. On a consistent basis. I want to feature them in the cafe." he paused. "We could sell them on your behalf and give you the money even." humming lightly he pointed to the tarot cards. "Wouldn't mind having you come offer readings every now and again." ah yes, they could form quite the partnership! Chang had many things that would be helpful for the cafe and perhaps coming into town occassionally would give the man a chance to meet new faces. "Do you do readings on animals?"
He glanced over to Nolen with a wicked grin. "Or just people? Either way I'd like a reading." and he'd offer up a five for the reading. The teas would have to be paid for after, considering the bulk amount he actually wanted.
Missy Kissinger picked up one of the old timey engraved pocket watches she had on the table. It really worked. "Uhhh.....6:20" She closed the watch and set it back on the little display stand it sat on. She was waiting for the crowd to thin out, and for Chang to be less busy with customers that weren't gaining something by being here. The scales were probably her biggest hit. She's going to have to find more dragons to trade with. " Missy overheard the conversation and pushed up her heels in a little hop. Yes! Networking. She'd be doing her own later, but she can wait her turn. Eyes moved back to Flor with a happy sparkle. "Do you have somewhere to be? Or just curious? Don't want anyone turning into a pumpkin."
Oranges would be better the further he was away from the cat. Yep. So scooting to Missy was the best option here. Until he was ready to go? Time? Ah. "Appreciate it." He'd said 'Thank you' enough to people today. "I.. Actually, yes." Needed to be somewhere. Mhm. That was it. "The pin is really cute, by the way. I'll call." And a glance given to Chang. "And I'll visit." For now, though? He was taking his phone out to check for any messages before getting caught up in a sneeze to his elbow. Shit. Time to skidoot. "You guys are great-" 'Chuu! "I gotta go-" And go he would! In a bit of a hurry away from the dock at a faster than normal speed-walk pace.
The Plant Witch was.. honestly a little surprised at the big offer. He hadn't expected his selling here at this simple festival would bring such financial opportunities. "I.. suppose I could make a crateful of teabags that you could sell at your cafe." He could make that much. The drying took a hot minute but Chang believed he could pull it off, as long as he got into a routine of growing, drying, and packaging. At the mention of a reading, he took the five and gave him back a dollar. "A two card reading," he confirmed, since one card was two dollars. "I suppose I could do a reading on an animal but.." Chang glanced over at Nolen as he shuffled the deck of cards, then looked to Devin's face with a raised brow. "I don't suppose it would matter, animal or human, for him," he said in a softer tone. Clearly the witch knew that the cat wasn't just a cat. The same process was given to the cards again. Blow on the deck, knocking on them to tap off the last reading. "Place your hand, please," as he held out the deck to Devin. Then they were spread out, hand hovering over the array before two of them were slipped free. "The Wheel of Furtune, upright," he said, turning the first one over slowly, then the second. "The Nine of Swords, reversed." Chang took a slow breath, studying the cards silently for a minute before he spoke again. "An upright Wheel brings good luck. It signifies an upcoming turning point. It speaks to the inevitable cycles of life. Do not let the vagaries of life, the whims of fortune, or even these steadfast cycles of life control your behavior. Your power and your freedom are in your will. You decide how to respond to the things happening in your life. This card calls on you to make the choices you pick ones that you will be proud of, no matter the outcome." Chang frowned at the other card, glancing up at Devin. "The Nine of Swords signifies inner turmoil, deep seated fears, secrets, and being unable to release your worries. It speaks to bouts of insomnia and isolation. This card calls on you to meditate on your fears and worries, and work on doing something productive to combat the bad nights, but assures you that you are not alone in these troubles, and that they happen to us all." Chang let out a soft breath, slumping back in his chair, sliding the cards back into the deck, offering Devin a half smile.
Devin Starr had missed out on Florence's departure; but that just meant he was free to now drag Nolen over to Chang's table! Which he would with a quick shift back to the booth and than hooking a hand under the feline and dragging him against chest before depositing him on shoulders. There, that was better. Returning to Chang he offered a quirk of the lips at the lowered voice. "You're very perceptive." was all he remarked, letting the man prepare the tarot reading as he considered the crates of teas. "I'd like to purchase some to brew as well. Money isn't an issue." he was loaded despite Nolen's consistent attempts to make sure that he didn't spend frivalously. Unless it was a hundred dollars on a golden pendant the feline loved. The thought alone made him smile for a brief moment before he focused on the reading. It wasn't entirely unexpected, not that he really believed in the Tarot and fortunes and all that. Instead he just nodded and chewed on his lip lightly. "I see, I'll keep it all in mind." he assured, not sure what else to say on the matter. Turning back to Missy he tossed her a wave and motioned for her to come over. "You happen to have time for one more?" he would pay for her to have her tarot read as well!
Missy Kissinger sat down at the small stool beside her table, legs crossed, kind of watching the scene in front of her. She dealt with the few straggler mainlanders but the crowd has started to thin out with the ferry of mainlanders getting ready to leave. Only a food truck or two was left on the street. Many of the vendors were packing up tents and tables. Missy straggled behind, however. She started packing some of her jewelry away, and the more mundane objects. That black velvet lined glass case though.... with the more rare things was left on the pastel pink clothed table. She got up as she was called over. She dusted her lap absently and bit her lip. She unlocked the glass case and slipped something into a small box. One of the larger, gold dragon scales. She sat at the table and slid the box over. "For a reading?" Though she was eyeing those necklaces with tiny jars. She didn't want to be greedy.
The Plant Witch sat up a bit straighter as Devin waved over Missy. "Of course. I'm here until the dock closes." He was actually quite excited about the idea of selling his tea to this cat cafe. He could make a bulk bag of tea, couldn't he? Chang was already planning on how to aid his tea plants to grow so he could make this one-man operation flourish. Chang leaned forward and took the box, curiously peaking inside. Eyes widened at the sparkling scale before his expression returned to normal, that deadpan sort of neutral look. "Three cards then," he said softly, slipping the box under the table. "And one necklace." He didn't miss the way her eyes glanced at them. Deck gathered, blown, knocked, held out to her. "Hand please," he said softly, entering that slight trance that always came with a reading. Once her presence had been placed on the cards he slid them out, eyes and fingertips slowly moving across the spread before he pushed three forward. "Page of Cups, reversed. Knight of Coins, upright. The Fool, upright." He took a moment to assess them before he began the reading. "The reversed Page signifies your doubt in your own intuition, ignorning warning signs, and refusing the guidance of others. This card calls on you to dive into experiences, but to do so with open eyes. Find balance between opening your heart and keeping it prepared from unforseen dangers. The Knight bids you to take your time and make the most of what you have. Keep up your hard work and productivity. This card calls on you to cultivate patience, and reminds you to conserve your energy. The Fool is a sign of spontaneity, innocence. He is a free spirit. He beckons new beginnings and tells you to have faith in the future, even though you don't know what to expect. You're blessed with beginner's luck." With that, Chang sank back with a soft breath, looking to Missy.
Devin Starr hadn't missed the delivery of the box earlier for the necklace, but had been distracted. He would take the time of Missy's reading to return to the table and tuck the pendant away in the box before slipping it into a bag that sat underneath the booth. With that secured away he reached up to drag Nolen off his shoulders and set him on the table, muttering something about watching the booth before he was back to see Chang and Missy. "I should probably start packing up. It is getting a bit late and I have to return these books to the store before the boss gets mad." Chang would probably already figure out that the cat was indeed the boss. Maybe Missy wasn't so perceptive though? He figured she had likely caught on though, if she had any amount of magic. It was hard to hide a familiar from those with affinity to magic. At least he was a bit easier to hide; unless someone could sniff him out he was pretty safe in pretending he wasn't really a dog. Or a wolf. Whatever. "Be sure to come by the cafe Chang. Bring as much tea as you can and I'll pay for it." if he preferred money up front Devin could handle that too. "You as well...who are you again?" he probably should've paid more attention to the pin that he had pocketed. After getting her name he'd toss a wave to both of them before starting to pack up the booth.
Missy Kissinger gave a rather high cheeked smile when Chang threw in the necklace. "Thank you." Head bowing a bit, hands in her lap. She put her hand over the deck, watching. She then sat her hand back in her lap. She listened, brows stitching together and looking down. A tear welled up in one of her eyes, but she took a breath and nodded. Something was going on and that reading hit toooo close to home. The fool gave her hope though, and she cleared her throat. "Yes....thank you. You have a good sight." She smiled gently, and pushed herself up, almost forgetting about the necklace. She breathed out. Beginners luck. "At least I didn't get the ten of swords for once. Things are looking up." She cleared her throat and moved to her table, grabbing a pin to bring to Chang. "All my information is on the website on the pin. I have a feeling we could be good friends." The reading shook her, it would seem.
The Plant Witch gave Devin a wave, nodding at the mention of visiting the cafe with his tea. "As much as I can carry," he promised. This event had certainly turned out to be quite the networking dream. He would have to tell his sweet Magnolia all about it. Perhaps he could even bring her to the cafe. His eyes fell back to Missy, practically feeling her reaction to the reading. Chang was exhausted from the several he had already done, but he was glad he squeezed in one more for her. It seemed like a well-needed reading. He reached up and took the pin, turning it over in his fingers. "I hope we are as well," he said softly, offering her a smile as he stood to slip the pin in his pocket, collecting the deck. "I've only got a few bottle charms left, but they're yours to choose from. Each one has different dried flowers in them. The ones on the left are for protection, the middle ones are for clearing bad energy, and the ones on the right promote health and love. in your relationships."

The reading shook her, it would seem. She went for love. She put it over her head ginger and shook her hair free. "Thank you so much." She would heed his words carefully, but smile again and go to clean up and think deep. "
