So how do maid-type stats work?
I understand values can't go into negatives but do the added stats of a type add on to the final value, or?

That's correct as I, a newbie to the system, have read it to be. Add and subtract what the maid types say to to the final attribute scores, after you've already rolled and divided them by 3.
At work at the moment so I'll try to be here between hours.

What about special qualitites, how many of those are we taking?
>~< AAAAAHHHHH I'M SO LATE SORRY. My vision's all blurry from just waking up.
Um, hi flatchest You've probably guessed but I'm Kylie, a friend of coke's. I'm glad you took an interest in the group. If you need any help with the creation process, let me know.
Edit: ...Is what I would say if you hadn't already completed it Jeez I need a sec to wake up a bit. Anyway, nice to meet you

Phew, battery at 100% All systems functional. K.Y.L.I.E. online.
Now with introductions out of the way, I'm curious. How do you feel about your maid? I'm guessing you probably made this character yourself, without the use of the randomization process. What made you choose those traits?
Oh, and I realized that my backstory doesn't quite match the description for "Revenge". That is to say, the master is supposed to be my enemy, but I guess I forgot that somewhere along the way Should I change it, or can I still use the one I typed coke?

Yeah I chose the stuff, I had a character idea in particular in mind the night before, so that's what I went for.
I just wanted to make a cool laid back girl.

Fair enough. I also had a character in mind, but eventually decided to just use the dice. And it's a good thing I did, since the character would have been pretty similar to yours.
It'll be pretty slow going while we wait for more people to join, but hopefully we can get things rolling soon.

PLEASE, Co-host! Can't you see you're smothering them with emojis!
Looks like you did the Character Generation correctly to a T. Nice nice. Anyway I can improve it, let me know.
Seeing a new character just makes me excited with how they could be played in the coming scenario. I'm imagining the Maid Weapon and Power being synchronized to explain how she's such a sly stalker for example.
I hadn't noticed you're background, Kylie, doesn't actually fit the Maid Root with the specific detail of wanting revenge on the Master. Keep it the same way. I can think of an easy edit you could make if you want, but it'll be ~more dramtic~ to play out hopefully. Trust.
Anyway. What do you two think about playing a tutorial-esque prelude with the characters going about their "normal" routine within the Onmyōji Estate proper just before the scenario takes place. It's basically just a play test to see if anything doesn't work or flow well while we wait for more takers. You'd be able to edit anything about your character until the scenario starts properly.
Ah, also flatchest. Make sure to read the Scenario tab to see important details about the actual setting we'll be playing through. Any wants to change aspects or if you're not into it at all, feel free to say.
Oh, I already read. I was just expecting it to be fairly straightforward given this being a ruleset you're unfamiliar with but the setting is actually really interesting, I think. Plenty of chances to explore the full extent of the core, stuff like that.
I'm also down for the test run.

Great to hear. That's right, I need to write somewhere we'll be using the core (or Basic) rules only, as well as Items. I'll put that in the Scenario tab.
I know I use emojis a lot because they help convey emotion
As long as it's okay with you, I'll keep what I made up. And I'm of course down for a test run too, but is it okay to do it with just the three of us? If it's some kind of prelude to the actual RP, then wouldn't the rest of the maids be there? Unless it's non-canon or something.

Your tears on staining my diamond pattern color scheme!!1!
Obviously it's just us three for now, but if others join they can opt to jump in or stay put until the game is in full swing. It's a... middle ground canon. Canon until proven otherwise!
Yes, the Onmyoji (I regret using a japanese name with that little "-" on the "o" so much) estate proper houses a great many staff carrying out duties between the various mansions and facilities gated from the uncouth populous. It's like a drop-in, drop-out pregame lobby. Any newcomers can jump in as one of the many staff who was previously carrying out mundane tasks until the camera was on them.
Wasn't expecting you to be so gun-ho as well... I'll get right on it.

Ah, and while we're at it I wanna ask. Is Ota in the mansion?
Ota does room in The Pendragon, but he's been wholed up in his room and is likely to stay that way as he's been doing as of late. He might awake in the afternoon, or late eve. Who's to say. He won't answer any summons unless it's from his mother.
So what do attributes do? are they like ability scores where they add onto the success of a roll?
if so, do i have to roll since my base skill is a five so i'd pass no matter what

You link what your doing flavor wise to the mechanical number of whichever Attribute fits best. Physical actions usually are Athletic. Cutesy seduction is usually Affection. Etc.
They are actually multipliers to a standard 1D6 roll you'll always use to contest something. Given how good at maiding Hikaru is with 5 Skill, you're absolutely right. I hadn't caught that. She succeeds automatically, given this particular threshold I gave for these puny tutorial chores.
Lots of thinking ahead.
Potential Changes
So already I'm seeing how things can play better for a forum game version of this. It’s time consuming and awkward to say roll for this and roll for that. If the players state what their character is doing, maybe even explicitly state “I’m using X Attribute” in the post, and then I roll for them. Then, I detail the results. It flows better.
Style1 (current):
Player states action > I state what to roll > They roll > I dole out results > They react = 5 steps.
Style 2 (streamlined):
Player states action and desired roll > I roll if I agree > I dole out results > They react = 4 steps.
What do you both think? Does this make sense?
A related matter is the Dice Table will need to be changed to archiving Character Generation rolls only, and action resolution and event rolls will be tied to the in-game posts for smoother play. It’s much easier seeing why something has happened due to the roll being right there in the post. This means, however, that rolls need to be made first on a blank in-game post and then we go back and edit that post to dole out results and play from there. First the dice roll, then the details that result.
So with this streamlined style, players would not have to make rolls all that much. In theory, any time a roll needs to be made it is faster for me to do so. This is a bummer to say the least, as it’s slightly less fun.
Example situations where we roll dice may play out as:
Player does action, either implying or stating what attribute they are using.
1. “My Maid outwits Godzilla, beating him at speed chess.” (Cunning)
I roll. Success or fail. I give detail. Player reacts.
2. Player does action, and a Favor or Stress Roll is needed.
“This food… is awful. Don’t even bother next time” Says the Master. 1d6 Stress.
I roll. X amount of stress is gained. Player marks down, and reacts.
3. Two Maids are contesting rolls, stating or implying what they will use to contest. I roll.
“My Maid punches this Maid!” (Athletic)
“My Maid fake cries to be too cute to punch! She’ll use her Cunning to get her way!” (Cunning)
I roll. Maid 1 wins. I give detail how Maid 2 was socked. 2d6 Stress. I roll. I give detail. Players react.
Thoughts? Yeah, I know. Very boring for what is supposed to be a light-thinking game. I thank you for any feedback.
