Attention OOC

Posted by HoundDog April 2nd 2018, 2:40pm
Ladies & Gentlemen, it has come to our attention that due to recent events there may be a need to be more clear and direct about what is and isn't acceptable in the OOC.

Let me begin by saying I hate the idea of restricting anyone's speech and this is the internet for crying out loud so why should we feel any walls around us? The fact of the matter is that Sin City is a community in which a multitude of people from different walks of life are bundled up in an internet chat room together. That said, just like the mixed company of a party or social event IRL, not every conversational topic is appropriate for the entire OOC to view. There are people who will possibly become uncomfortable. Some may speak up about it, but it is my experience that most will sit and endure a conversation rather than speak up and risk feeling ostracized for opposing it. At which point people tend to end up leaving the dream due to an environment that could potentially be viewed as unhinged or inhospitable. I know that is literally impossible to make everyone happy, but we could always try. Even if this world isn't perfect. Censorship is no one's favorite topic. But let's all try and recognize, then be accommodating to the presence of mixed company. It's only polite, after all.

In observance of the recent events, the rules pose a need to be readdressed.

Dream Rules

These are the rules that you subscribe to when you enter this dream and post on our forums.

When you are bringing up a topic in the OOC you might ask yourself “Would this be something everyone in the OOC is going to be okay with?” If you even get the slightest inkling that said topic would be inappropriate for the audience then it could be in your best interest to not post it. If you aren't sure, you could whisper a staff member and we'll discuss it with you and see if it's okay. You are also encouraged to take those topics of conversation to whispers with someone you know who will be more than okay with that conversation. Alternatively, you could find a spot anywhere within the dream and have that conversation away from the OOC.

Thank you,

Nick.
