A genetically engineered being composed almost entirely of organic substance, a replicant lives a dangerous life. They seem entirely human, and may choose to augment themselves. After all, it would be the rare doctor or chopshop hack who could determine whether someone is a replicant. They have individual personalities and are fully capable of emotion, though some base programming may have been carried out at some point. They can reach the pinnacle of human abilities in areas of strength, speed, and agility. Otherwise, they are often completely flesh and blood.
Replicants are hunted by the World Union and its police dog for the possible danger they carry. Genetically engineered to be superior to regular humans, the possibility of rebellion is high. They must be cautious with their identities even in Midian, lest they be caught and hauled off to the mainland-- or worse.
A replicant is an artificial human being. While early model androids were electromechanical, using semi-organic and organic construction techniques enabled much faster production of replicant models which were visually distinct from each other. It also significantly cut down on costs, both in terms of maintenance and upkeep. Replicants were used Off-World as slave labor, in the hazardous exploration and colonization of other planets and in militaries as advanced soldiers that could excel far beyond human standards and were much cheaper to produce and train. A replicant can be fed - the manufacturers generally recommend a mix of regular food, and special supplements, self maintains itself like an organic being, and can provide a range of services that a non-organic replicant cannot.
Replicants often enjoy better agility or strength than the average human depending on what they were created for. Let me underline the “or” in that sentence. In Midian as a replicant you should probably only select strength or speed, much like the hybrids. You can be a smaller, faster model of replicant which will mean that you sacrifice above human strength or the larger and stronger sort that isn’t much in the way of moving quickly.
The common skills sets built into the models Midian will hold are combat, pleasure (sex slaves), and other functions needed in colonizing a new area in possible hazardous locations.
A lot of how your replicant interacts with people in Midian will be what purpose it was built for. Though completely biological (it has been said that morticians have ended up with dead replicants on their table and they were unable to figure out it was human during the dissection) Replicants do have a logical process of thinking. They are created to do one thing and do it well, while still learning as creatively as a human does. All of the Replicant’s ‘personality’ and social know how will be geared toward their purpose at creation.
Take time to really give that thought before your character’s creation. Replicants loaded to be for combat will not be “flirts” or able to understand the complexities behind friendship or love (you’re not gonna get laid a lot), replicants made to be service models won’t understand how to use a gun automatically, and pleasure models may not even be able to defend themselves in the early years of their life.
As you play your replicant longer you are able to learn more skills, but it’s recommended that you dedicate at least a few weeks on any knowledge base you pick up. Be reasonable with this part of things, as it has a lot of leeway. Replicants have the ability to absorb knowledge quickly, something needed for their short lifespan. The trouble with replicants is based in their ability to learn new things just as a human does. Over time, Replicants, who originally start without empathy or any real understanding of emotion, with begin to their own feelings in a process much like small human children discovering the world around them. This process generally begin happening anywhere within 1-2 years of activation. Replicants often gather a full grasp of humanity, and true sentience, in the days or weeks before they retire.
Due to the limited time they have to live, your character is not likely going to be very multitalented. They generally do one thing well. Of course this has psychological ramifications I’ll go over in the Culture page.
For now we’re going to sum up the basic facts about what a replicant is in Midian.
· You are a biological creation who has been programmed through basic knowledge insertion much like a robot. Much like Frankenstien, you’re alive.
· Your parts are organic, so they’re limited to either being produced to help enhance speed, or strength. All other skills will be toned down to the “peak of human condition”. Of course, all abilities will be based on consent. So, if you don’t know How Consent Works you’ll want to check on that. As well as read into the information given for Combat Etiquette.
· These characters main story lines are psychological, so please be sure to read the Replicant Culture page on how that commonly works in story.
· Because Replicants are more genetics than mech, they will adhere to the Ten Hybrid Rules. This being said, we want no replicants with animal appendages. This race is meant to look human.
History:
Replicants were created by the Bios inc corperation as the next, logical step in more humanoid androids. They were the perfect blend between genetics and machine, and the end of man’s direct attempt to play God. After all, once you succeed there’s no need to keep trying.
Replicants were marketed as being “Perfectly human”. They were perfect for being able survive hard, dangerous labor and take orders quickly. The problem came when it was discovered that Replicants could also gain human emotion. Slowly, a rebellion was born. Replicants began to plea their cases to their human owners, who often were taken in by their human appearance.
When human rights were denied but the World Union, and the Replicants ability to develop emotions were classified as a “neurological sickness” the response was a bloody battle. The Replicants tries to rise up, only to be quickly killed by the might of the World Union army. The result of their actions was a kill on sight order for any Replicants found on earth.
This was not called murder. It was called retirement.
Replicants were still made, however, shipped to off world settlements as a way to help those colonies expand. They would be returned to earth once they were reaching the last year of their life span, under the guise that they would be retired peacefully in a way that would not cause unneeded distress to any of the off world workers.
Replicants were created by man for man. But that doesn’t mean they are happy about it.
Replicants are able to learn quickly. In the four years they live they’re able to advance through an entire adult life. Just as toddlers slowly begin to understand emotion and what is socially correct, so do replicants.
They often band together, when they can. Like does attract like. Replicants view themselves as living, breathing humans and want nothing more to be given the same life as them. They search endlessly for a way to prolonged their life and will not be beyond using horrible means to get it.
In groups, replicants are a force to be reckoned with. They will fall to dressing oddly and making strange statements, sharing knowledge about humans like someone doing a study of them on the outside. They do not often fall into social stigmas, instead making their own rules through experiences.
Each replicant will react to the world around them different, just like people, depending on what information they were given upon their creation and what they have learned since. As such, any “culture” they may embrace will be the culture of being just plain odd or offensive.
The Replicant psychology is going to be the most important part of playing a replicant character well. But many of them have more in common with humans emotionally than robots. They are normally outsiders, so their emotional states are often in the "angst" category, or Kill All Humans once it develops.
Being a Replicant in Midian will have your character dealing with the very real problem that if someone finds out what they are, it’s almost assured the World Union will make efforts to cut their existence short for being on the planet. You can’t really trust anyone to know what you are and will be battling the difficulty of playing a character with no emotions trying to blend seamlessly into a human world.
‘Just like most artificial humanoid characters, Artificial Humans tend to Become a Real Boy over the course of the plot. Mechanical Evolution is often invoked in their origins.’ Over the course of the time you play this character, it sound naturally grow to become more human. What kind of personality it will grow into depends heavily on the type of trouble it falls into during its short life. You are very much made by your surroundings with this character.

Frequently it involves defying Creative Sterility by demonstrating artistic talent in something, developing curiosity over something new, and/or the exercise of free will. Do Replicants "have souls? Do Cyborgs? Can a computer have a sense of humor? Do Androids Dream? It has been asked in many forms, but the fundamental question is always, "what makes us human?" All of those Blue links up there will lead you to a variety of plot points to read over as possible directions to take this character class.
