Welcome to the Forests and dark alleyways of Midian. After the Third World War, and years of WU oppression, Midian has shaken off the shackles that keep bombing it into the stone ages. It now strives towards the future. This is the world in which your character has found itself. Whether it knows of its Lycan heritage or not, your character has stumbled upon the information of a World Union isle beset by eternal night… A multitude of vast and unusual prey and a number wolves and prey to interact with.
Once exposed to Midian it could have been the radioactivity of their prey, could have been the toxic clouds soaking into their very cores, or it could have simply been natural selection or even an evolution of the changeless. However it occurred, lycans once exposed to Midian, abruptly begin to go through a metamorphosis of unexplainable supernatural change until they wake up and find themselves, only and wholly, utterly and completely a Midianite Lycan.
All they ask is your character allows others to remain in their forests, keeping their identities as Lycans intact and not to "out" any fellow supernatural, as the more who know the more that can turn the hunter, into the hunted.
1 Respect the IC/OOC Boundary. As a Lycan, whether your character is public or not, you must additionally agree to do your utmost to not ruin the personal storyline of other Supernatural character and consent to conflicting RP that results from violations with the understanding you'll not have to perma kill your character. [unless in a consented death match]
2 The term "Alpha" as used means Wolf Leader of a pack. It is a position of sim appointed Group management in a leadership capability of a gathering of Lycan characters and does not denote that character's dominance status among their kind. Everyone has varying degrees of dominance and submissiveness inherent to their character and this too can be said of an Alpha of a Pack.
You do have the option of not being a part of a pack or submit an application to lead your own pack, or can even move to another pack if already in one with the understanding that there might be IC ramifications and that people like to roleplay with those who take hits as well as they give them.
3. A Lycan must play out its weaknesses when exposed to them. Lycans, when in human form or in a beastial form, are not all-powerful. They can be injured and they can die. Their forms are only as strong/powerful as consented to be within the rules for their race. There is NO immunity to Silver in the lycan Genome, but Wolfsbane and Nanites are based on consent.
4. Stick to the hunting grounds when in bestial forms. Hunting grounds include: Dark woods, Dark alleys, Sewers. Any "animal" or "beast" found to be in populated areas is subject to consequence roleplay and may/will find themselves hunted down by anti-lycan citizens or the AC themselves.
5. Lycans in beastial forms have an animal's understanding of the world and cannot use weapons or talk in their wolf, dire wolf, or war forms. They act in accordance with actual wild wolf behaviors while shifted. You might want to google “wolf body language” to play this properly. What a Lycan recalls while shifted is subject to consent.
6. Once a character has shifted for the first time into a beastial form, it is forever a Lycan and able to shift at will. Lycan's are immune to vampire blood and cannot be changed into a Vampire as their bodies will naturally reject the blood's influence and attempts to procreate.
7. The base form for Lycans is human and Carrier forms, once shifted for the first time, lose all benefits of their previous race. For hybrids, only non-lab created Wolf hybrids can carry the gene. However, once they shift for the first time, they will become ONLY lycans with a base form of HUMAN. Which means: they will begin to lose their ears, tails and hybrid benefits to instead become wholly Lycan with a base form of HUMAN. When in Human for Lycans are ONLY HUMANS. They do not have any special powers or abilities until they transform into another shape to use these skills. Human shape, human powers. Lycan shape, lycan powers.
8. Lycanthropy is a genetic trait. This means one of your character's ancestors would have had to have been a Carrier. There are no "bitten" or "made" Lycans, only born Carriers that then manifest into Lycans. Carriers have no benefit for having a dormant lycan gene.
9. The term "Pack" in Midian is a sim faction with an approved Alpha at its leadership. Packs are loosely bound collection of members that hold IC territory that can fluctuate in size and membership. ALL Notecards regarding individual pack play are the IC beliefs of their members on how a Lycan should conduct themselves in Lycan and Human society and how their Alpha runs that individual pack. These rules are ONLY ICLY enforced by the pack that holds those specific beliefs of conduct.
10. All shifting, regardless of what form, is done in three posts. Meaning you should post once where you are starting to change, once where you are in the main stages of your body reworking itself into the form you have selected, and a last time where you are recovering from the stress of your transformation.
Base Form
The Base form is also known as the Human form. The following guidelines will be the maximum of your characters abilities while in human form and it will highlight detailed examples on where the line is drawn to make it easier for you to play.
Sight
A Lycan in their base form's eye sight typically hovers at about 30/20, which is greater than a human. They also have good low light vision, but at night or in total darkness they are just as helpless as a human.
Hearing
At 7 years of age, a typical human is said to have the best hearing of their life, and from there it steadily declines. Lycans in their base human form have hearing that is typically forever locked at this extreme peak of human hearing, but slightly less than a hybrid. Remember, you still cannot hear through walls.
Taste
A Lycan in their base form might find that their sense of taste has enhanced with their other senses to be the most extreme of the human ability possible. Enhanced taste is a survival mechanism in the wild to aid in not eating rotten or diseased meat.
Smell
A Lycan in their base form might find that their sense of smell has improved. Their sense of smell is at the peak of human ability. People who make perfume for a living are able to identify several flowers by name and scent in a mixture, or pick out individual smells in any environment. Keep in mind that all scent ability is based on consent, meaning you must OOC ask any character if they are okay picking up on their scent or collecting any information from them through smell.
Touch
A Lycan in their base form might find that their sense of touch or sensation is on average typically much like the sense of touch a blind human would develop.
This sensitivity to touch and sensation does not extend to weather. Lycans, in their base form, are able to survive harsher temperatures (both cold and hot) than an average human. However, extreme conditions that would kill humans are also lethal to Lycans though it may take them longer to fall to the effects of harsh environment.
Strength/Speed/Stamina
While in their human form, the only physical benefit lycans get is being in almost athletic shape even without any real effort in the form of diet, exercise, or anything of that nature. They're that friend everyone has that never seems to gain any weight no matter what they shove into their face and after a day of hard work still wants to take you out to party.
Regeneration
Lycans heal about twice as fast as humans do, which brings with it as many problems as it does benefits. The biggest concern lycans have with their enhanced healing is that the people around them might notice something is off and as such they run the risk of having their human status revoked by the WU. Lycan can choose not to be outted to the public as a supernatural race. This is on a player by player basis. Before outting any supernatural character a player needs to recieve consent, and make themselves familiar with the lore in the Sword, the Shield, and the Lone. Because of this major risk factor, many lycans have resorted to a set of tools and tricks to cover up their extreme regenerative abilities. Think makeup, prosthetics, and pretending to walk with a limp even after the leg has fully healed.
Lycan's in their base form might find that they are able to regenerate/heal faster than their human counterparts taking 1/2 the time a human would for their injuries. Their bodies will heal in the same way as if they were human, scaring, scabbing etc. Lycans in their base form that do not go to lengths to hide how much faster they heal than a human, often run the risk of having their HUMAN status revoked by the World Union as they could conceivably be mistaken for a hybrid that is either hiding their hybrid traits like ears and tail or an "impure" human who possibly at one point had a hybrid ancestor. Having HUMAN status revoked, can make it VERY difficult for a Lycan to function in society, thusly many Lycan's learn theater tricks such as theatre makeup and method acting to hide their rate of healing so it would conform to human standards.
Allergies
Lycans have one big allergy and two more optional ones. You can stack as many weaknesses ontop of that as you want but they won't be specific to the lycan lore (hayfever, peanuts, etc).
Internal Structure/Blood Tests
Lycans in their human form are completely identical to an actual healthy human being. Any examination by doctors or scientists will not show anything out of the ordinary. Bloodworks, organs, and bone structure are all perfect copies and even the lycan gene will disguise itself as ordinary nucleotides somewhere in their DNA sequence when in human form. Ontop of that, many humans would rather believe a lycan to be just an exceptional specimen of their own race than some fictional creature. When their extraordinary regenerative abilities are discovered, they'll more often than not just be labeled as a hybrid gene carrier despite not showing any other signs of known hybrid strains.
Immune System
As with most things lycans in their human forms are comparable to ordinary, be it exceptionally healthy, human beings. The common cold or a flu bug going around will rarely if ever affect them at all, but they can get sick. Any major disease they contract they are likely to eventually get over naturally as the one in a million "miracle" that show up in medical journals all the time. The drawback is that it does drain their body considerably for years to come as the disease has to be completely purged from their system.
A Lycan's health in regards to sickness and disease, are directly tied to the health of the average human in society as lycans can once in a blue moon get sick and suffer from human diseases; though typically things such as the common cold or flu bug rarely if ever affect them. Once contracted or infected by a major disease such as say cancer, etc, their survivability is higher than their human counterparts and are typically known to be the one in a million "miracle" that survives eventually; though it'll take a toll on their body for years to come afterwards until whatever it is, is fully purged from their system.
Lycans experience a complete rejection of vampire blood within their bodies. Their bodies fight off the vampire blood when it is introduced to them like a cold, or expel the blood by any means necessary. Lycans are immune to being changed into a vampire.
Because of their boosted immune system, lycans will reject foreign objects, specifically donor organs and cybernetic or robotic augments, at a much quicker pace than a human would. So much in fact that augmenting or replacing any parts of the lycan body even in human form is virtually impossible. The added stress of a lycan body shifting around these parts ontop of everything else means that we don't allow for any lycan players to get any replacement parts under any circumstances. You may regrow bodyparts but you can't change them once your character is made.
Beast Form
These are the maxes your character can achieve in this form. However, your character can always be played as having less than these maxes and is ALWAYS subject to consent based roleplay as outlined for Midian Play.
A Lycan in monstrous form is, entirely and exactly, a replica of a wild wolf except expanded into a bipedal form. The behaviors and mentalities of a wild wolf are often taken to violent human potential and intelligence level.
Strength and Speed
A Lycan in monstrous form's max equivalent in speed and strength is a medium grade mechanoid and as such is subject to consent. A victim can agree or not agree to any level of damage less than or up to the effect of a medium grade mechanoid's hit upon it.
Teeth, claws
Sharp as nails and as solid as concrete. Remember, both teeth and claws can be broken or bent. A Lycan in monstrous form's claws and teeth are able to cause damage on a consenting Vampire that might take a human's amount of time to regenerate. Any other race will heal at their normal rate.
Senses
The senses are equivalent to two times the senses of their wolf form when a Lycan has transformed into Beast form. They still cannot hear through walls, scent through enclosed areas, or speak. Lycans in the Monstrous form do have Night vision.
Biology
Internal structure is similar to that of a human's except that heart, lungs, and other internal organs are larger than what is found in a typical human and are placed in similar locations as one might find in a wolf.
Examination by doctors or scientists will be unable to tell the difference between a lycan in Monstrous form and a hybrid experimentation gone awry. The Lycan Gene disguises itself as commonly found nucleotides in a hybrid sequence and cannot be identified. Many humans often believe that a Lycan in Monstrous form is a bear, or hybrid experimentation gone crazy, rather than to believe there is a creature that is beyond their ability to quantify or one that could eat them.
Regeneration
Regeneration is equivalent to 1/2 the human time for the injury; which is exactly the same rate of their predatory counterpart and direct opponent for territory, food and breeding stock, the vampire.
Injuries sustained by a vampire might be taken back into the base form when they shift back. A cut across a monstrous arm may show up as a cut along the human base form.
DRAWBACKS
Though possessed of human intelligence to plot, plan, and scheme, Lycans-- when shifted into Monstrous form-- cannot use weapons such as blades or guns that require Human hand dexterity. However using a dead piece of wood or taking a consenting character's arm off and beating them with it as a club-like weapon is acceptable. Just make sure they consent via OOC IM.
ALLERGIES
Lycans in Wolf form still suffer from the common Allergies for their kind:
· Silver - This will make the animal sick, and wounds suffered by silver will transfer to their base form. A monstrous form cut on the muzzle with a silver blade may find itself with a scar along its human nose for a few days.
· Wolfsbane – This may completely hinder, or partially impede, a Lycan's ability to shift back into their base human form. A Lycan is at its most vulnerable when attempting to shift forms so this can provide a very real danger to the Lycan player. As per the Ten Rules for Lycans, this allergy will be based on consent.
· Nanites - cause the animal to become violently ill until the nanites are expelled from their system due to the Nanite's silver content. As per the Ten Lycan rules, this allergy will be based on consent.
· Vampire fangs and nails are able to cause damage on a consenting Lycan in Monstrous form that might take a human's amount of time to regenerate and will transfer to their base form upon shifting back to it.
IMMUNITIES
Lycans experience a complete rejection of Vampire blood within their bodies. Their bodies fight off the vampire blood when it is introduced to them like a cold, or expel the blood by any means necessary. Lycans are immune to being changed into a vampire.
SIDE NOTE
Not all Lycans choose to play their shifted forms on a separate AV, but some Lycan players choose to do this. In many ways this helps players avoid instances of people metagaming knowing they are a lycan on their main account. If you choose to do this you should be ready to reveal to a mentor who your main is if they ever inquire.
Wolf Form
These are the maxes your character can achieve in this form; however your character can always be played as having less than these maxes and is ALWAYS subject to consent based roleplay as outlined for Midian Play.
Basics of the wolf form
In wolf form, a lycan is completely that, wolf. They think and act like a feral wolf, they're not friendly dogs, and they're definately not cartoon animals able to talk to each other or other people. Even genome mapping and bloodworks, or even vivisection it’s impossible to tell if a wolf is just an animal or a lycan in wolf form. The only ability that sets them apart from actual wolves you may encounter in the wild is that their claws and teeth can injure a vampire in such a way that it takes a normal human ammount of time for them to heal. In return any injury caused by a vampire while in wolf form may carry over into human form. Both are consent based.
Because and all communication between shifted Lycans relies on body language and scents, though it's not necessary for your roleplay as you can describe the intents of your character in other ways it's highly recommended for players interested in this type of roleplay to read up on the material. Some links to help you:

Some players choose to play their shifted forms on a separate avatar to avoid accidental metagaming, which is allowed, but be ready to out your alts should a mentor ever enquire.
Allergies
Lycans have one big allergy and two more optional ones which carry over to their wolf form. You can stack as many weaknesses on top of that as you want but they won't be specific to the lycan lore (hay fever, peanuts, etc).
The first one is silver. Silver will "infect" any injuries it comes into contact with, not only disabling the lycan's natural regenerative properties but it'll slow the healing process altogether. On top of that any lycan touching silver in any will experience rashes, blisters, and other such symptoms commonly associated with a normal allergic reaction.
Aconitum, or wolfsbane as its better known, will block out a lycan's shape shifting abilities to a varying degree, depending on the dosage. This is all consent based so how much it affects you if it affects you at all is entirely up to you.
Nanites: Many Companies that produce Nanites of any form often utilize silver in the construction of the microscopic robots; as such a Lycan exposed to Nanites may find themselves experiencing flu like symptoms until the nanites are expelled from the body. This allergy is consent based for you, so you get to decide if you suffer it or not.

Moderators: Anigmus Viscera (played by OrderoftheGash)
