When you’re incognito, it feels amusing for some odd reason. Like one of those cheesy spy movies. This feeling never ceased to amuse her, just watching people go by and not even recognizing her, not even giving her a second thought at all. Of course this wasn’t the first time she had went out like this. She had gone out in disguise several times before, blending in with the crowd and being obscure as possible. You couldn’t blame her. There were just some days were she couldn’t handle the spotlight at all. People always got too grabby. Peace and quiet was complete bliss for the superstar.
Well, mostly peace and quiet. What with this competition going on, there couldn’t ever be complete and absolute tranquility. There was always the suspicion that someone—or something was watching you. Her father always said this; “You can never be too skeptical if you know what’s going on around you.” The advice was sound, just like most other advice he had given. Of course, she’d bend that advice to her rules, but the initial point still stood.
Sitting on the Upton Square’s bench, she adjusted her sunglasses, then the sleeves of her coat, and crossed her legs, getting comfortable in the seat. This was definitely the go-to place to hang out and do business.
Speaking of business, she had caught her next client approaching her through the crowd; the typical man in a suit, sunglasses, and briefcase.
In the back of her mind, she vaguely wondered what her partner was doing at the moment.
As the Revenant went on his rounds, his hooves clanked against the ground with heavy thuds, giving hint to how truly massive the ghostly being actually was. Though his steps were heavy, the pegasus’ movements were rather graceful. Each step was meticulous, very well placed, and not a single one was off-balance, his mane and tail made of the ominous mist slightly swaying with each movement he made. After coming to a stop at the edge of the rooftop, he lifted his head, craning his head a bit to get a better angle at what exactly he was watching. Cars. Noisy people. Lights.
No other Revenants in sight. At least, it was as far as Hades could tell.
He took a few steps back, then stomped, launching himself off the ground. His wings opened to their full length, and he glided across the sky. As soon as he landed on the other rooftop, his wings folded, and he resumed his patrol. Eventually, when he finished with the rooftops, he hopped off a building and descended down into the nearest alleyway, continuing to look on ground level.
Keep the perimeter secure. That was his mission, and he intended to uphold it, and intercept anything that was remotely threatening to his partner—no matter who or even what crossed him.

Odd, she mused, that fountains should be the only pools she could stand to be near.
Unseen among the fountain's statuary, Amanita watched happenings around the square. With the formidable pegasus continuing its perimeter patrol, she opted to stay put. She only needed to mask her presence when it came within 100 feet of her. Invisibility only necessary when it looked directly at her, since her form was just reminiscent enough of the lions to look like part of the art.
Somewhere nearby, Enri noodled around inside shops and conducted business. He was back to his well-groomed self and, at least outwardly, in good spirits. Whatever sneaky crap he'd been up to, he seemed to have resolved.
Good, she purred, vibrations swallowed by whatever it was in her that ate sound. Then she returned her attentions to the goings on below. Watched the suited man approach the woman on the bench. Felt a pang of jealous longing as she realized what they were up to.
Once upon a time, that could have been her on that bench, running the show. Too few suspected a pretty face... Fewer suspected a pretty voice that went with it.
Amanita's tail thrashed in irritation, but she otherwise remained still. Just another statue in Upton Square.
----
"You'll see me again, real soon!" Enri assured the cafe staff and more than a few of them laughed and teased him relentlessly on the way out. He teased back until the door shut behind him and he finally turned to wander elsewhere. It felt good, getting back into these old routines... going places unassaulted, noticed as little more than a charming face. Heck, so long as he ignored the weapons tucked away on his person, it was just like business as usual. Chat up people, keep on their positive radar, report venues up to supervisor.
One day, he'd be doing that for his own label: scouting talent and matching them with places to play. He was even daydreaming like he was back to regular living.
He'd got so wrapped up in those thoughts, he ignored the warning prickling that sent a shiver up his spine.
He rounded a corner and snapped to look at the large movement happening just out the corner of his eye. Then stared a moment too long when he registered what it was. Complacency kills, someone once told him and now he cursed not keeping it in mind. Now he'd be paying the price.
Hopefully this particular Revenant would be hard-pressed to get up to speed in the narrow, winding alleys. So Enri ducked back around the corner and tried to run.

Hopefully this particular Revenant would be hard-pressed to get up to speed in the narrow, winding alleys. So Enri ducked back around the corner and tried to run.
The pegasus let out a heavy snort, head picking up and ears perked as he suddenly stood at attention. He stayed still for only a moment before beginning to trot down the narrow alleyway. There was movement; it was at split second, however, he could've sworn he sensed something very alive just around that corner. And said individual seemed to have noticed him, so he was determined to go investigate.
His trot sped up, then it smoothly transitioned into a speedy gallop. Hades turned the corner. What he saw, was a human male trying to escape. That was this foolish mortal's first, and perhaps last mistake. He stamped his hoof onto the ground, the concrete under it seemed to quake from the forceful impact. Then he quickly ran past the male, skidding and intercepting his one and only escape route.
"Halt. You go no further."
His wings unfurled slightly, feathers ruffling as he released yet another heavy breath from his nostrils.

Enri felt the thundering behind him and pressed himself against a wall probably not a moment too soon. He was not body-checked by the massive beast in the somewhat tighter quarters and got to watch as it skidded to a halt across his original path.
Trying to run again back the way it had come seemed a silly choice and the Revenant's demand stopped Enri from taking more than a single step back. The one needed to steady himself after the sudden stop.
With it looking him dead in the eye (and being so much bigger than him), Enri decided against even reaching for his weapons. He'd need some cover before that was a good idea...
Instead, he played up his panic, bringing his hands (palms open and clearly empty) in front of himself defensively. "Y-yeah, big guy. Whatever you say! Just d-don't hurt me, yeah? Dios mio, what am I looking at." Then he made a sign of the cross across his chest, hoping that gesture would sell his terror more believably.
At the fountain, Amanita's ear twitched, having picked up the odd thundering. Was it that pegasus or something else?
She was already halfway down to the ground, tail twitching nervously, before the feeling of dread fully registered in her gut. A shudder passed through from nose to tail, briefly raising the spines laced throughout her fur.
You had better not have run into that thing, she frowned about Enri. I don't think I can save you if you did...
Her path down from the fountain brought her within direct sight of the woman on the bench, but Amanita expected no reaction. Not from her or any in the square - the average human couldn't see her, after all.
Once more, her assumptions would get her in trouble, it seemed. For now, she picked her way towards the buildings, where she would climb onto the roofs or perhaps take fire escapes where she could and keep an eye out for her partner.

At the fountain, the exchange had already gone underway, and everything was going smoothly. The disguised singer was conversing with the suit in a casual manner, going over meticulous plots and shady deals—mixed in with some leisurely chatter about how their lives and careers were going, the state of both of their families, and other things of that nature. To be frank, Calista had all the time in the world. She trusted that her partner was competent enough that this night wouldn't be ruined by some unexpected events, or unwelcome guests at her rendezvous.
Though that vague feeling—it was rather light, almost unnoticeable, but she could feel it—prickling on her skin, that feeling of a body part falling asleep and unable to wake up. But it was like ice, slowly creeping up her neck to try and freeze her solid. Her glaze flicked over to a rather odd looking feline making its way to the rooftopsof buildings.
She ignored it for now. Whatever 'situation' it was, she was confident that her Revenant would take care of any problems before they eventually caused trouble.
What Hades saw was about the same thing he noticed in most mortals—fear. Not important. He inspected the male closely, leaning in and narrowing his glowing eyes. Then he eventually moved away a bit, snorting. "Fear not. I will do no harm. Not yet." Both his words and actions at the moment were oozing with contempt.
Even though this one did not look nor sound like a credible threat to him or his partner, there was still one glaring fact that he could not ignore. This man could see him. That only meant one thing.
"Where is your partner? In this area, I presume?" A hoof forcefully hit the ground. He did not expect a straight response right away, but he had ways of getting the answer he wanted.

((Oh no! I completely forgot I hadn't actually responded to this. I'm so sorry!))
"My partner? Uh, my-- oh! Yes. Like you, sortof, she's... Yeah. Sure. She's around here somewhere. I, uh, left her in the square. Didn't feel like tagging along while I shopped. She's lazy like that."
Enri kept his hands up where the pegasus could see them, palms still forward except once during his chatter when he ran a hand through his hair.
"But who knows where she got off to since," he laughed, nervously pressing back against the bricks behind him.
"Um," shifty eyes took in the pegasus - its massive hooves, broad wings, and the mist pouring from where its mane should be - then darted towards the direction it had come from as though debating whether or not to run. "Um. Y-your partner's around somewhere, too, I guess. Or you wouldn't be shaking me down, right?"
Another nervous smile. " You seem like a, uh, reasonable horse. Guy. Um, thing.... Maybe we can come t-to an agreement? I steer clear of your people, I don't get dead? Sound good?"
It took a bit before Amanita found her partner. Unsure of where exactly that pegasus had gone, Amanita went into stealth the moment she reached the edge of the square, and didn't let up even now.
Slinking along a nearby edge, she rolled up just in time to hear mention of an agreement. Hopefully he wasn't serious.
Careful to stay above the other Revenant's mist, making no sound, she crept closer.

((my bad, i also may have forgotten about this!))
The pegasus cocked his head, ears flicking as he listening to the man, front hoof pawing at the pavement below. He had no intention of actually considering this little agreement, not without his partner's knowledge and consent. Maybe it would be better to simply humor him.
Hades let out a snort, "No deal."
"Since you appear to have no intention of doing harm, I will let you go." There was a pause, appearing to be some sort of indication that the pegasus would take his leave in a moment or so. However, his front hoof struck the ground, the concrete under them seeming to shake.
"If I see you once again the future... Mark my words; I will crush your spine into dust. Are we clear, human?"

Terror bottomed out Enri's insides, numbing his extremities. If he tried to draw a weapon now, he'd fumble for sure. A recipe for an awful, messy death. So when the smouldering pegasus let him off with a warning, it caught him entirely off-guard.
"'uh?"
The thunderous stamp, and the words that followed, got him back on track and he gave an emphatic nod. "Sí. Claro. Like crystal."
Not good. Not unexpected, but still... not something she'd wanted to hear.
Taking advantage of its preoccupation, Amanita had leapt across the alley, talons digging into the brick on the far side. Utterly silent, save the tiniest patter of grit that fell to the ground.
Then it let her human off with a warning, followed by a threat.
Lip curled back in a snarl, tail lashing the air, she debated dropping down onto the creature's rump. Imagined clinging and clawing and tearing its beautiful wings from its powerful shoulders.
And why shouldn't she? Silly horse. Who gave it the right to shake down her people?
No one. That's who.
She let go. Lithe form twisting, she'd right herself and angle for its back.

Do she hit her mark?
Seeing that he had struck enough of an impression on the man, the pegasus snorted. Though... Something was wrong. His right ear flicked at the vaguest pittering of something hitting the ground. Some rubble had fallen onto the concrete just a few feet away. From above?
Before he could even realize what was going on, a searing pain shot through his back. His eyes widened, and on instinct, he stomped again while he let out a roar, rearing up onto his hind legs. Hades' massive wings extended to their full span, and with one motion, he beat them. It had created a powerful gust of wind, spreading the odd mist emitting from his head and rear.

BLOW IT OFF! BLOW IT OFF!!
Amanita expected the rear and some manner of bucking and flapping, but expectations and successfully acting on them were very different things. Though she did her best to keep her claws dug in, the powerful wings proved too much and she was thrown from the pegasus's back.
She kept on the offensive, though, making an ugly snarling face as she kept on the move. A leap here to put herself away from the hooves, another to bounce around the tight quarters in the alley. When she went for him again, it was to catch one of those wings with her forepaws, intending to shred at its base with her hind claws.
Enri saw too late his partner dropping onto the other Revenant's back, but his next reflex served him well. He ducked when the pegasus reared, and rolled to the side to get away from the hooves. It put him through the mist that was starting to fill this portion of alley, but whatever that meant would have to be sorted through later.
"Ay!, what were you thinking?" came his exasperated yelp as he tore off for a side-alley too small to be followed through by anything larger than Amanita. Incidentally, it was the original target of his attempt to escape, where he'd planned to either hunker down and pray the thing had no ranged attacks, or cut through the back/side door of one of the buildings to either side.

damage the flight?
After the other Revenant had been thrown off of his back, he slowed his flapping down, the gust of wind calming into a dull breeze. Before he could whirl around to follow up with perhaps a stomp or a charge, it was far too late. The pegasus could only stay in place as the other launched herself onto his wing. He roared in agony and reared up on his hind legs. A bundle of feathers were torn from his wing. On instinct, he bucked and thrashed - then suddenly rammed the side that had been attacked into the wall of the alleyway.
Whether it would work or not, that thought didn't occur to him - not even the human he was threatening before that had darted right past him. The pegasus only acted on instinct at the moment. The first priority was getting this annoying thing off. Anything else came second.

COME ON AND SLAM?
She hardly had time to be pleased with her success when she found herself smashed off a wall. Amanita spasmed, releasing her grip on that wing and slumping to the ground. She, to her credit, tried forcing herself to her feet. And she took a deep breath.
The nearby sounds seemed even more dimmed.
----
Enri, meanwhile, whipped around. That slam had Amanita send him the impressions of ugly squawks and pitiful chokes all at once, and something in him reacted strongly to it.
Out came the gun, and he fired from the hip. If it hit, that would be a miracle, but he hoped it might buy the cat more time.

bANG BANG
That thick, nearly suffocating cloud of mist spread to nearly every nook and cranny of the alleyway. As the pegasus moved from the wall - looking like it was trying to fight the searing pain coming from his injured wing - bullets whizzed right past his face. Close call. He ignored the shots for now and reared up once again, raising his two front hooves high for what appeared to be a powerful stomp. This one was hellbent on crushing the other Revenant's spine.
A heartbeat later and he brought both down at once.

let me lend you a HOOF (or two)
The pained sound that blasted through Enri's mind stunned him more than the choking mist. While the stomp didn't crush her spine, it tore into her hide and revealed empty space beneath. The glow of her chest shone through there now, a sickly orange.
Enri retaliated with another shot, aimed center mass.
Amanita tried to drag herself back, away from the massive hooves.

silver bullet time?
This time, the bullet hit the pegasus' side - right where the lungs would be if it were any normal horse. The pegasus stumbled from the sharp pain, away from the other Revenant trying to get away. He shook his head, trying to recover while the mist set in place and thickened. The air grew thin - oxygen was being sucked out of the air in the area.
Amanita dragged herself to three feet, and hobbled for the thinner side alley while the pegasus recovered. The lack of oxygen wouldn't have registered to her, had Enri not been so clearly affected, struggling to aim while his breathing grew strained.
He took another shot and tried to get away, but tripped. He was hyperventilating now.
Amanita pressed her head to his side, trying to help him stand, and when that failed she grabbed the back of his shirt in her teeth and started dragging him further from the threat. If they could just get inside... maybe he'd be okay.

parting shot
The bullet hit his already injured wing. The pegasus hit the wall, nearly sliding to the ground. Though he managed to keep himself upright. It took some time to finally get back up - about as long as it would probably take for the other two to get at least a block away. He wobbled, but kept steady, then moved to pursue the others.
A low whistle cut through the relatively quiet alleyway. Hades halted dead in his tracks as his ears flicked to the side. He began to turn himself, but glanced back once again before galloping off in the opposite direction. The mist steadily began to clear out of the area.
