Rules

  • 1. The PN is an Adult RP environment. All players and their characters must be 18+.
    2. There is no such thing as non-consensual Rp. Players are responsible for their own well-being, and will be expected to politely and discretely remove themselves from any scene, either pending or in progress, in which they feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

    3. As mature roleplayers, we of the Paradigm Nexus swim in deeper, darker waters. While this is by no means an either exhaustive nor limited list, these are a few things which every adult roleplayer certainly needs to know and respect. That as such, we have rights and reasonable expectations, but we are also very much responsible to those who play with and around us, and should also keep those responsibilities in mind.

It is both your right, and your responsibility:
    • to engage in play you enjoy, with others who enjoy the same style of play, with reasonable discretion, and without reprisal, retribution, or harassment, and to respect the right of others to do the same.
    • to discuss disputes politely and privately, to attempt to reach a quick and peaceful resolution that is agreeable to all those involved, and to discretely request mediation by your forum leaders if such a resolution seems unreachable.
    • to refuse interaction with anyone with whom you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, and to do so without reprisal, retribution, or harassment, and to respect others' right to do the same.
    • to remove yourself politely and discretely from any scene or circumstance in which you have begun to feel uncomfortable or unsafe, without reprisal, retribution, or harassment, and to respect the right of others to do the same.

    4. Enter play with an open mind, but be aware of your own boundaries. There are a thousand and one degrees of difference of play, and the odds are very good that at some point, you will find something offensive, upsetting, or simply outside your own comfort zone. It is the mark of a mature and accomplished roleplayer to recognize those moments, and to step away graciously, before you are overwhelmed with the passion, emotion, or intensity of that moment. In the end, no one but you can know when that moment arises.

    5. Please respect the settings of others. While your character, in a mutable reality, may play by slightly different rules, you should acknowledge and respect the boundaries of the reality into which you have brought that character. If your character is a space pirate, and steps through the Nexus into a Wild West setting, he may have his blaster and shiny suit, but the people around him will still be firing six-guns and wearing cowboy boots and hats. Please do not attempt to transmogrify another's setting through your posts, and recognize that the characters native to that environment may react strongly or strangely to someone from another dimension.

    6. Please refrain from playing characters that are not your own creation. A spice trader from Arakis, or a droid mechanic from Tatooine is fine, Paul Atreides or Luke Skywalker are not. While other boards may allow or welcome playing characters from another's Canon, we prefer you stick to what you personally own and create.

    7. Please refrain from presenting "Swiss-Army" characters. Jacks of all trades are welcome- so long as they are, true to the adage, also masters of none.

    8. We encourage defining characters as much by their flaws and shortcomings as by their strengths and abilities.

    9. If you desire a backdrop which has not been created in the Paradigm Nexus, feel free to request one via the Above and Beyond forums, although no promise is expressed or implied that they will be forthcoming. The admin will do her best, and use her best judgement in these matters.

    10. Characters and players will be reviewed before admission- please don't take offense, even if you or your character is denied. We aren't just "judging" those who apply, but considering matters such as play style, writing style, and degree of interest and engagement, for your sake, as well as that of our established players, to ensure or at least increase the chances of a happy collusion, on everyone's part.
