Foremost: We are not Psychologists. If a player is feeling low because of life, it is okay to offer an ear in support. But unless you are a licensed therapist, it is highly suggested you do not offer 'diagnosis' to people. Instead, point them to resources that might help them. Still be an ear, but encourage them highly to seek help.

Below is a list of links and articles that might help another person, or yourself, in a moment of struggle.

Remember: You are not alone.
But players are not therapists or psychologists.
If a player genuinely needs help, encourage them to get it.

List of Global Suicide Crisis Lines - If suicide is ever spoken about, do not wait, encourage the person to seek help.
  • 7CupsofTea is a website where you can get someone to listen to you when no one else is around.
  • MoodGym is a FREE Cognitive Therapy program to help take apart harmful perspectives on the world. A lot about what affects a person's mood, is the frame in which people view the world. In changing your perspective, your mood improves, and then your actions open up new possibilities. Learning to recognize your own faulty thinking patterns is crucial to good mental-health. MoodGym teaches how.
  • QuietSpaceProject is a website like 7CupsofTea, but instead of rambling to a stranger, you ramble INTO THE VOID. It's a much more personal experience, with calming music. Being able to vent with absolutely no judgement, can be a good means to get your thoughts and moods back in order. Bottling things up is terrible; this is an open and safe space to take a minute or two to just talk.
  • CrisisChat is a USA-based online chat program for suicide-prevention, among other things.
  • RAINN places a focus on counseling services with a focus on sexual assault and recovery.

Ally and Support List:
  • How to Speak Up when you hear or witness an act against another person, or group. The best way to be an ally is to use what power you have to help change the response and behavior of others -- especially those closest to you. It's important to discourage bigoted behavior; and this place is a good start to learn how.
  • 49 Phrases to Help an Anxious Child Or adult. A lot of these phrases and lines of thinking can also help facilitate communication and ease for someone who's either anxious, overwhelmed, or under sensory overload. Understanding ways to communicate with someone who's lost touch of being grounded is an incredibly useful skill to hone.

  • Overcoming Emotional Spirals: A discussion thread on the topic of taking hold of one's Emotional Spirals; when a negative emotion causes further negative emotions. The discussions are insightful, and offers further leads for resources within. A good start for research!
  • Suicide: The Forever Decision: A book turned free PDF, this is for anyone that has thoughts or considered ending things forever. It's also a good aid for anyone affected by the suicide of another.
  • Theraputic Dungeons & Dragons A fantastic concept, this group organizes therapy-based Dungeons & Dragons group to assist in improving the social skills in children.
  • On Emotional Dependency: RealTalk; A frequent problem among Escapist Roleplayers, but being able to identify what's going on gives you the right tools to be able to adapt and fix it instead of risking becoming an inevitable emotional timebomb.
  • Confessions of a Bad Meditator: Meditation has a ton of chanted benefits for people -- and yet there's this block that frequently comes up. Emotions often overcome logic in a brain's decision-making, and this article explores how this manifested in a block, along with how the writer got through it.
  • The Feeling Good Handbook by Dr. Burns: A basic crash-course into Cognitive Behavior Therapy to help the reader learn how to better reframe their thinking pattern from something destructive, into something constructive. It helps to show how to take back control of these thoughts to turn them into something positive.
