Continuity Basics

  • Basic Starting Info

This page is meant to be a beginning guide to any who wish to join in the continuity. If you have a question not answered below, there's a link at the bottom where anyone can comment any questions they may have!

    ~Entering the Continuity~
The basis behind Starlight Escape is that it's a home for the lost. It has a magical enchantment that draws people to it; sometimes that means people board an airship to the Sphere without really knowing why, sometimes it means wandering people are literally just snatched out of space and time, falling out of a portal to a random spot. There is a slave area as well, so it's possible to be enslaved, or simply to visit for trade in search of magical or illegal goods.

    ~What is or isn't Canon?~
Everything is canon. Literally everything. Because of the strange enchantment that abducts beings to the Sphere, it is entirely possible to come from different times and dimensions. The only restriction here is that most forms of advanced technology stop working once entering the Sphere. This means Lazerguns, iPads, Phones, etc will become useless hunks of metal and plastic.

    ~What is the Technology Level?~
Low Tech - Steampunk machinery is allowed, but most future tech simply stops working when exposed to the high magic environment. It is possible to have a mage craft enchanted items with similar functions to future technology, but anything past the 18th century that isn't run on magic, steam, or clockwork will not work in SE.

~What Kinds of Magic are Allowed?~
The Sphere and all islands floating within has a high magical saturation; the very earth and stone is enriched with magic of different kinds. Most types of magic are allowed and different areas have differing types of magic.
(See the Lore page for more information on the different island's magic types.)

~What are the Roles a Being can Take?~
There are a multitude of jobs and roles a new player can take up. Jobs are not restricted to staff members! If you want to be a bartender, just jump behind the bar and start tending! If you wish to be a blacksmith, have fun in the forge! If you want to start a pack in the feral lands, go for it! The dream has a wide variety of scenes, and anyone is welcome to set up shop for their RPs.

    ~Is There a Caste System?~
Yes! The Sphere is owned and run by Empress Azure, who protects and ensures the safety of the people residing within. There is no pre-existing nobility, though any rich or noble furre is welcome to attempt to join her Court, and earn responsibilities and higher titles through trust and time spent IC. Non-noble beings are treated as patrons or residents of the establishment, and below them are servants and slaves who have the chance to pay off their debt and earn their freedom. These roles are, again, not restricted to staff; instead they are RPed out in the dream.

  • Features and How to Use Them

    ~Commands & Local Species~
There are many commands at your disposal, listed in game by saying *Commands. There is also a wide variety of locals, listed by saying *Locals. All commands in this dream use an alterisk (*), in part because it resembles a star!

    ~Jem Purse & Gatherables~
The currency system for this dream is called a Jem Purse. Because of the excess wealth of those who run things, small coin shaped gemstones are used to buy and sell things. Clicking the 'Jems' button will start your purse, or once started show your balance. If you don't start your purse before accruing Jems, it will default to 0; whereas if you start it beforehand there is an option of starting with a few Jems based on your IC preference.

    ~Making Jems is Easy~
Fruit and fish can be gathered, and emoted RP posts near the Bar NPCs reward you with a Jem each. They can be spent on bartop food and drink, Vendor NPC items, and various other things within the dream with more buyables being added every month!

    ~Map Warping~
A relatively new and somewhat unfinished feature, the 'Map' button gives the player a Map Scroll where areas can be clicked to open a menu of Warp Buttons to navigate the dream. Clicking the 'X' in the corner of the Map Scroll will close it, and 'Map' can be clicked again to pull up the front menu. If you prefer, saying *Map gives a list of all the Warps in command format.

    ~Quests & Relics~
There are various quests around the islands to achieve different goals. Most quests reward relics to be used with the arena battle system, but some unlock features like cuddle clouds. Relics are to be used in the Arena Battle System to provide animated effects to battle!
(For more information about the different Relics, check out the Lore page!)

    ~Battle System~
The Arena Battle System is a two player feature. While dice based, the rolls are all done automatically via buttons, and the results are emitted in a way that people can RP in a relatively free-form fashion using two posts: preparing and hit/miss. The result will be deducted from the HP bar, and Relics can be used to give the player elemental animations.
However, completely free-form battles are allowed by simply not starting the Battle System! No one will force you to use a system you don't enjoy.

    ~RP Finder~
Clicking the 'RP Finder' button will add you to a list of people currently online and in the dream that have previously clicked the button, and show you that list. Being on the list means a person is interested in being whispered about RP, whether in a group or starting a new plot with someone. It does not necessarily mean they are available to RP that very moment in time, the list being more of a way for RPers to find each other.
If you click the button and add yourself by mistake, say *RPoff to remove yourself. You can be added back at any time by clicking again or saying *RPon.
  • Arena Battling

    ~The System~
When you walk into the arena, you will get a prompt to say *Battle, then an HP bar and a red 'Start' button.
Click this to begin your post round, and give a small paragraph describing your attempt to hit.
(This can be as elaborate as a paragraph or as simple as a pokemon move.)
When you click the 'Dice' button a random dice based result will appear in the chat, and the HP bar will lose that amount of HP.
Take this time to post your paragraph to describe the hit or miss, and press the 'End' button when finished.

    Official Arena Rules:
Play until someone's HP bar turns red. To start a new fight, simply say *Battle again for full HP.

    ~The Relics~
Around the Isle new Relics are popping up. These items or weapons will cause added effects if held during battle!

    Current Relics:
    Phoenix Feather ~ Fire
    Poseidon Shell ~ Water
    Crystal Flower ~ Earth
    Faerie Orb ~ Light
    Hellhound Amulet ~ Infernal
