Make like a Tree
The tavern and inn that serves the transient population of the Cove has the distinction of being both the largest building in the entire port and one of the largest trees on the entire island. The forest giant that contains the inn was once situated further inland before time and tide expanded the harbor to its current size and left the massive tree clinging stubbornly to the top of a cliff face overlooking the port, its roots burrowed deep into the rock. Instead of bringing the tree down to use for lumber, the stability of its structure has been left intact and rooms were magically hollowed out without damaging the ancient thing, though the interior decor gives the impression of being dry wood. The tree's bonded dryad, a large part of the argument for not destroying the monstrous thing, maintains the structure from within and has also been known to take a direct interest in the health of those in and around the structure and occasionally elsewhere on the island.
Since the storms that occasionally buffet the island have a tendency to wreak havoc on buildings themselves, and furres often need cool places out of the tropical heat to rest, the tree-tavern is only a part of a larger complex settled mostly below ground and linked together with a network of underground canals. Lower rooms have been molded out of the bedrock of the cliff itself, particularly those housing things that might distress the dryad herself such as the forge, and storage rooms for wooden crates of goods. -
