Membership

  • Guests

Any and all are welcome to explore and join Wyvern's Cove, as we love to see new players and new characters to add diversity to our community. Recognize though that as a guest your character has not been approved as balanced and acceptable, so the members reserve the right to refuse your roleplay. This isn't to discourage socialization in the least! Rather, it's to protect the people who've gone through the process of making a fair character from having their work set back by those guests who don't know better or try to take some sort of unacceptable or unfair action.

By the same token as the above, if a visitor feels as though the members are being unkind or clique-ish they're welcome to speak to the dream staff. While we like to maintain quality in our roleplay setting, that doesn't mean that unfamiliar players should be snubbed or ignored for no reason beyond spite, pride, or vanity.
  • Character Creation

While it may seem difficult at a glance, character creation is honestly rather simple! You're welcome of course to ask for assistance from staff or any member when it comes to sensibly filling out the character template. The below links are purely for your convenience!
  • Membership

Membership in the dream is a relatively simple ordeal, achieved via application. We deeply want you to feel like a part of the dream, and as though you're creating a real effect on the setting. It's easiest to do this by making sure that your character fits the setting, and that you too are putting something back into the dream by creating quality roleplay. As such- there are expectations that come with this lofty status!
    • Members are expected to have a character sheet for every character. These must be on the forum, or created on RPR and linked to the forum.
    • Members must keep their character sheets up to date to prevent confusion.
    • As a member, you're expected to be familiar with and follow the rules. While you may police yourself and remind others of the rules, anything more than a friendly reminder should be done by staff. Feel free though to let us know if something's wrong so we can police it!
    • Remember that as a member, you represent the dream. While you are not required to play with unapproved characters, please do your best to welcome new players! We all started somewhere.

On the other hand, the advantages are hopefully well worth it. Being a member of the dream means that we trust you to know what you're doing and how it should be done, which makes it far easier to allow play of restricted races and the like.
    • Members will be more rapidly and readily approved to play restricted races.
    • Members will be able to submit ideas and write-ups to assist in the approval of unlisted races.
    • Members have a greater chance of impacting events, plotlines, or the actual dream map. (We will not ignore guests, but it's frustrating to give sway to someone in a storyline that might just decide not to play here anymore tomorrow!)
    • Members have the right to ignore guests in the case of a rules violation. (This is because it's not up to non-staff to enforce the rules. Should there be conflict regarding whether or not a guest is following the rules, we would rather have the members set the potential problem to ignore and refer a staffer to fix it.)
    • Only members may have characters hold rank or any sort of ic leadership position in the dream.
    • Only members may be suggested for or offered a staff position.
  • Template

This sample character sheet has been created primarily for your convenience, and secondarily to satisfy my desire for uniformity. Feel free to add your own variables to it as you please, but please include all that is listed!
  • Casual Players

We will not discourage of disallow consent players in this dream as was done in previous incarnations. Everyone has a right to enjoy the roleplay and to enjoy their characters. On the other hand, there are responsibilities one must accept if they wish to play with consent-only severe injury or death.
    • DO NOT antagonize other characters. Sure it seemed like you were just playing a minute ago, but some characters are more tempermental than others, or may suffer from flaws that make them more aggressive. Better to err on the side of caution.
    • DO NOT use consent as a shield. If you have been given warning and chances to escape a situation and you plow onwards, you can't use consent to dodge the outcome of your actions.
    • DO NOT do ANYTHING to another character that you wouldn't allow to happen to your own. Period. If you decide to kill off someone else's character, you've waived all rights to hide behind consent.
    • DO feel free to pre-arrange the outcomes of fights if you'd still like to see some action. As long as the other player has been fairly warned and knows that there are going to be limits, there's no reason you can't plow on!
    • PLEASE wear a [C] or (C) tag in your desc so that people can be aware when they interact with you that you're playing casually! If you really can't stand desc tags, include a link somewhere to your character sheet instead and be sure that your casual player status is displayed clearly at the top.

So long as one can follow these common sense guidelines, there's no reason that your character can't be played as a consent character. There shouldn't be any thrill-killing going on in the first place... If conflict arises due to your casual status, please feel welcome to consult a staffer and have them mediate.
